I've had this bulletproof for about 2 years, the other carabiner is less than 1 year of use.

Really like this biner, BUT…

It’s not that old, less than 6 months of use, and the wire gate to secure the belay device completely broke when catching a lead fall in the gym. It was locked, all was fine, and I was catching a heavy climber… but still. Not sure if I will replace it or give a different brand a try. Love the biner if not for this breakdown. Was using a Edelrid Jul2 belay device when it broke, so my belay loop was in the wire gate. Maybe this doesn’t happen with a Grigri?

Amazing carabiner!

Great carabiner to combat wear and aluminum oxide. To the review about the carabiner clip breaking. It is clear from the picture that the belay loop wasn't not properly secured in the clip. When the belayer caught the heaver climber, the belay loop pushed the loop out of its groove. This is evident from the direction of the scratch mark, see photo.

Perfect combination of functionality & durability

I bought this for everyday belaying after getting sick of wearing through my old HMS carabiners, and especially after watching them flip themselves into potentially dangerous cross-loading positions while hanging at awkward multipitch belay anchors. The steel insert at the top of the carabiner has dramatically reduced wear & tear on the metal. Unlike my old aluminum belay carabiners, it has yet to develop noticeable rope grooves after a whole season of sustained climbing. This one is on track to last a whole lot longer before wearing through! Most importantly, the spring-loaded keeper gate has prevented all cross-loading situations over my entire summer of strange & unusual belay perches. Better yet, it can be opened without unlocking the screwgate of the carabiner, a major improvement over the BD Gridlock, since it allows you to readjust a belay system on the fly. Yes, it's ever so slightly heavier than a standard locker, but realistically you're never going to notice that extra couple ounces unless you really are a world-class climber. And yes, it's a little more expensive than a basic belay carabiner, but it'll last twice as long. For safer belays and more longevity, it's been totally worth it.

Thiccc!

My partner says this carabiner is thiccc. Which three 'c's! Also that I lowered her more smoothly with it. My MegaJul definitely feels better on this carabiner. Didn't take long to get used to getting my belay loop behind the little wire gate, and I appreciate that it stays nicely aligned if my partner's going fast and I need to take up a lot of slack in a hurry. Fun color. If you're considering this, you should understand which end does what.

No More Grooved Carabiners

I beam construction makes it strong and light, anti cross loading bail keeps the biner oriented for maximum strength and steel insert at wear point greatly reduces wearing weakening grooves and keeps rope and hands free of grey aluminum deposits. Best of all worlds.

annoying to use

annoying to use. Belay gate is cumbersome as it is weird and difficult to open. if your set on buying a belay carabiner from Edelrid I recommend buying the one without the belay gate.

Perfect Belay Carabiner

I love the clasp to keep it oriented correctly. I used to have an autolocking one but after getting my shirt stuck a few times I've come to really appreciate this screw gate.
