These bottles are great
I recently purchased 2 more not to replace but to have more. I have been using these bottles for several years and never had a leak or failure with these. They have canoeing in Boundary Waters and many trips on the AT and Florida Trail finally countless kayak trips

Cap is not attached and easily lost
The bottle works fine but the cap is detached from the bottle and looks almost like any other water bottle cap. It's easily lost or easily thrown away. I'm not sure which happened to mine. But if you want to replace it it's only 2.95 from the Platypus website. The catch is the cheapest shipping cost makes it 16.95! Basically, you lost that little cap and the item is worthless. REI doesn't carry the caps. They should!

Great product, great company

Love these bottles for travel. I've purchased several for my self and more for family. When flying they are great because they pack down to nothing, and once you fill them, they just get smaller as you drink from them. They hold up great! I broke one cap while traveling the pacific north west (my fault, I dropped it) and stopped in to buy a replacement at REI. They gave me one free right there because platypus had supplied them with replacements!

Works well, especially in softsided pack

This is a good substitute for a hard-sided bottle, especially for use in an unpadded day pack where a hard (e.g., Nalgene) bottle would uncomfortably poke your back. The full Platypus soft bottle doesn't poke and, when placed against your back, cushions other items that might do so (as long as you don't let them poke a hole in the Platypus). I agree with other users' comments about the desirability of having a leashed cap and/or of REI carrying replacement caps.

Travel All-Star

I bought this for a trip to Japan, because I drink water like a camel and didn't want to run out mid-flight. This water bottle turned out to be a trip all-star! I filled it each morning, threw it in my bag, and it never leaked through 2 weeks of very full sightseeing days. I loved that it got smaller as I drank water, leaving room in my bag for souvenirs, and it was easy to drink out of. Would definitely recommend.

Sturdy, pack-down water bottle for short trips

I use mine for day trips and it fits in my Nathan running backpack. Lightweight, easy to drink, easy to clean, stores compact as it empties (love that!). Thankfully if the cap gets lost (and it can, it's not secured to the bottle) it can be replaced with most 2L bottle caps. If I could wave a wand and make it better: wish it was easier to carry hands-free, and (maybe this exists??) a compatible hydration tube so I could use this on long runs.

Great Idea, poor quality

I purchased one of these to swap from a pack bladder for winter walks / hikes. I liked the idea, the price was right and I saw it in a gear review. When I recieved it, somone at the factory put the cap on wrong causing a crease in the cap joint causing a leak. I fixed this and was happy with it until after only 2 or 3 times out the product failed in the bottom crease. I would look at something with better "softer" materials for the bag and better plastic for the cap.

does not mate with sawyer mini

Previous reviewer stated that it fit perfectly with mini. They were wrong or got either item with a different thread pattern than I. It does thread on, but then goes cockeyed. Upon inspection, the thread patterns are obviously different. I used it with the filter and it didn't leak, but if feels untrustworthy. Total bummer because its a nice bag and the sawyer bags are total garbage.

Recommended with reservations

My only wish was that the lid was somehow attached to the bottle so I don't lose it. And I also wish the opening was a little bit bigger so it doesn't take so long to fill up.

My airplane water bottle!!!

I travel frequently.... I am sick and tired of $6 water at the airport and using single use plastic. This is my second platypus. The first one I bought YEARS ago is still holding up, but I lost the cap. HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you want to save the earth, one plastic bottle at a time.
