Coziness…
Lots of negative reviews on this but to each their own. For me, this jacket has lots of great first impressions. I can’t speak on durability as I’ve only owned this jacket for a month. Yes it’s the most expensive fleece I own however I love how soft, comfortable, faltering and warm this lightweight hoody is. I wear it casually in town or walking my dog, on hikes, and as a midlayer while I’m skiing or riding at the resort . It’s soft fleece inside, pockets for cold hand and a nice fitting hood plus a high zip to cover your neck when you forget a buff… I’d totally buy this again in a different color. I haven’t owned any previous models of the kyanite so I have nothing to compare to however I am usually a small in every other brands like Patagonia but with arcteryx, my atom and cerium are in a medium as I find them to run small. I ordered this in a small and it’s perfect ! Doesn’t feel tight or loose. It’s the perfect amount of slim fit and space for a baselayer
Favorite Fleece
This is my favorite fleece out of all the fleece jackets I have. I think it's because it's the perfect weight (not too thin, not too thick) and stretchy. It can be a mid layer or outer layer. It's a great casual/travel/active (hiking, running, etc) jacket. It does not pill, does not hold stink, and the color doesn't fade. I like it so much that just I picked up a second one on sale. As others have mentioned, the only flaw is the zipper that slips down if it's not zipped up the whole way. Size-wise, I have a medium because it is a slim fit and I didn't want it to be too fitted (I'm in between small and medium usually, 34B chest).
I loved it but…
I bought two of these a week ago and wore one of them twice, once with Aerios 15 backpack.(which i love) After one wash back of the hoody fell apart :( Im not sure if it was damaged by the backpack or if the quality of it was not good but either way, Im very disappointed because i loved (love!) this hoody. Worried about wearing the other one, shame i may have to return it.
Best fleece ever!
This is hands down the best fleece ever. My son gave me this fleece in navy for my 550 mile Camino hike across northern Spain. I wore it every day for six weeks in April and May 2019 through all temperatures and types of weather. It was warm, comfortable, and dried incredibly quickly. The stretch allows easy movement, the pockets are secure but handy, the hood covers thoroughly and comfortably, and the fabric looks as good now after numerous washings and hard use as it did new. So I bought this second one in the rust color. I love and wear them both!
Poor revision of a once awesome jacket
I have this hoody from a few years ago and love the fabric and fit and have gotten a lot of use out of it. This new revised version the fabric is thinner so I’m assuming not as warm. The older version the medium fit awesome thru the shoulders, chest and waist. The revised jacket the medium is too big under the arms, across the chest and along the hem by several inches each area. I then ordered a small which was too tight. 5’4” 126 lbs, average build. Not sure who they are designing these revised versions for. This is now the third try at replacing an older, much loved and used jacket with a new one that had to be returned due to fit issues.
Very comfortable, but lacking
There's nothing wrong with the current Kyanite AR per se. It's very warm for how light it is and will serve as a mid-layer when I go out climbing, or a stand-alone when in town. However, in comparison with the older version, this one is lacking. The material on this one definitely feels thinner. The interior zipped pocket is missing. What really irritates me is, with the mesh outer pocket, they could've sewn the bottom shut to make it an interior pocket, and they chose not to. Overall, a decent product. Maybe a tad expensive for fleece. Seems like they cut corners on this current version and kept it just as expensive as before.
Zipper...
I don't usually leave reviews, but I am very confused by this hoodie. It is warm and beautiful, and the fit was spot on. But... I did read some reviews beforehand of some customers not happy with the zipper - saying that it just slides down on its own. I was thinking there might be some faulty items out there and hoping I wouldn't get one of them. Well, when I got my jacket - brand new from the bag - the zipper indeed did not work properly. It simply slides down on its own - has no 'catch' (or whatever the professional zipper name is for that). I returned it to the store, and just out of curiosity went to the Arc'teryx section at REI to see if it was just my jacket - or a general problem. And indeed... all the Kyanite hoodies did that - brand new on the rack. Malfunctioning zipper. The zippers on other Arc'teryx items on the same rack to the left and the right did not have this issue - you very gently pull the sides of the jacket away from the center and the zipper stays put. I tried it with all of my jackets at home (including the cheap ones) - all the zippers functioned that way. Seems that that's what's normal. The zipper only opens when you want it to. But this jacket - a gentle pull and the zipper just slides open, which means that with every arm stretch - the jacket will open; that's a problem for a winter sweater - and even a bigger problem for a $179 jacket - especially when a $10 jacket gets it right. I'm just confused that such a quality company that specializes in clothes will have this issue... I do hope they fix it.
Who knew that a fleece could be so flattering!
This fleece is a slim fit, very flattering! I've traded it out for my beloved Lululemon scuba hoody! The only downside is that the hood is designed with a helmet-wearer in mind... perfect for when I wear it under my Proton LT Hoody when I bike to work in the Idaho winter. The sleeves fit my 6'0" wingspan, which is much appreciated. It's a nice length that covers the top of my backside, which prevents drafts when cycling! The price is steep, but I'm already convinced that I'll buy another one next season, perhaps without a hood. I chose that "Labyrinth" color-- it's a deep teal that goes with just about everything.
So warm and comfortable!
I will never buy another regular "sweatshirt" as long as I live. I bought my first Kyanite hoody a few weeks ago, and have donated nearly all of my cotton sweatshirts! I've also purchased 3 more Kyanites, they are that comfortable and worth the price! I now have Crimson, Black, Nightshadow, and Zaffre (from the previous season). The jacket is super soft and comfortable, and layers well over regular or technical shirts. It is breathable so I don't overheat the minute I start doing something active. I've had no problems with it pilling when I wash it. The zippered hand pockets are nice, and it has a very small inside pocket. I hope Arc’teryx never stops making this hoody!!
Kyanite Hoody
The new Kyanite Hoody is great -it is softer and warmer than previous versions. I was confused by the new sizing. At 5’3”, 98 lb, with a small frame, I’ve always fit well with size XS. I tried the XXS in this hoody first. The body fit well with a little extra room, but the shoulder seam hit at the halfway point across my shoulders and when I reached forward the end of the sleeves was 2” too short, which was surprising for me as sleeves are usually too long for me. I tried the XS, which fits pretty well. The body of the XS is a little roomy, but not too baggy. The sleeves and the shoulders fit me well in the XS.
