I’m 6’ 200 lbs and reasonably fit. We have 5 kids. Over the years we’ve owned a couple backpack-style baby carriers and borrowed a few others. This is easily the highest quality. I would describe this as “technical” because it is precision designed with rugged materials. If you have a heavy kid or are hiking more than a few miles this is the carrier you’ll want. Very adjustable both for the adult and the child. Breathable. I could go on and on with the praise. Cautions? (1) It’s pricey—if you work for a living and are sticking to shorter hikes this might be more bag than you need (2) I have the torso adjustment at maximum and IMO it fits but just barely — if you are tall or have a long torso you might want to try before you buy. (3) the “breathability” feature is allowed by an air space designed between the users back and the front of the child’s “chair”. Essentially the chair suspends an inch or so away from the wearer’s back. This can create an increased torque effect unless you are careful to have all straps properly adjusted. But if the pack is worn correctly it feels great. An expensive piece but if it helps our family get out in nature for long hikes, in the big scheme of things it’s totally worth it.

Useless for babies

Really frustrating to get this and realize it can't be used for months. You have to really dig deep into the information to find out you can't use this for infants. Maybe it will be good eventually, but I bought this so I could take my kid hiking, and now it's just going to collect dust in the basement until the child is old enough to compensate for the poor product design that can't hold up a baby - something tons of other carriers can do.

Just buy it - you won't regret it!

This backpack has been absolutely wonderful. We aren't avid hikers, but we live in Orlando and frequent the theme parks. We also do a lot of traveling, so our son spends a lot of time in this thing, and he LOVES it! We bought this when our son was 1.5 years old and he traveled all over Scotland in it. He fell asleep while my husband and brother hiked Arthur's Seat, he napped in museums and pubs, and he was excited to get into the thing whenever we weren't using it. He's now 2 and the backpack is holding up great. It doesn't cause discomfort for my husband, as it does a great job of distributing weight evenly. We dumped our traditional diaper bag to use this full-time. It has plenty of storage for our son and whatever odds and ends we need for ourselves. I prefer this to a stroller most days!

Must have for trail blazers

Comfortable, lite, great storage, easy clean. If you are hitting the trails with young kids, you have to have the Deuter Kid Comfort. I have 6 kids and have owned several different baby carriers, but none as great as this. It is comfortable for me and my kids; my youngest son falls asleep in this so easy, I have put him in it when he doesn't sleep at home. With a 5, 3 and 2 year old, I spend a lot of our hikes carrying at least two at a time, one on my back and one on my shoulders. With all my other carriers the weight was mostly on my shoulders, then adding another child on my shoulders, I spent most of my hikes in discomfort. This thing distributes the weight so nicely, sparing my shoulders, adding another kid isn't any issue. This thing also has the perfect amount of storage and extra pockets, I can carry snacks, jackets, toys and gear without issue. Seriously, get this carrier, it is worth every cent.

Doesn't get any better than this!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Deuter Kid Comfort Pro child carrier is such a great investment! I took this on my kids' spring break trip to the east coast and took it on the hiking trails we went on for my younger three year old child. He weighs 35 pounds. We walked several miles using this to carry him as he got tired easily, as most toddlers do. He was very comfortable the entire time and we didn't have any issues at all. I was comfortable wearing it and toting him around in it as well. The shoulder straps were comfortable and the pack is nicely padded and ventilated so it doesn't get too hot. Using this helps even out carrying the weight of the child evenly for more comfort. I love how the weight limit on this is fairly high, 48 pounds 8 ounces! The size of the carrier is pretty large and only weighs a little more than eight pounds. There is plenty of storage places throughout the carrier and even comes with a day pack backpack that you can hook to the front of you/shoulder straps. There are little foot straps for your little one to rest their feet on, a pillow in case they fall asleep, a little mirror to use to check on your child, and the best part is a sun shade that blocks UV rays and fits snug back into its little zipper compartment. The quality of the fabrics, zippers, etc are very good. The frame is made of aluminum. Just about everything is adjustable for yours and your childs comfort! They have truly thought this thing through and have included everything you need and then some!

Great for the whole family!

The whole family enjoyed this carrier! We have done several 2-4 hour hikes with it since purchase and are happy with the ease of adjustment when switching between my husband and I. Our daughter also loves riding in it, and was so comfortable she fell asleep for an hour of the hike.

Long time Osprey fan very happy with this carrier

Comfy & stable fit, plenty of adjustments, and sturdy legs. Just cleared 15 miles with my seven month son in tow. The carrier feels secure at all times with even distribution of weight. It's easy to shift your kiddo up and down relative to the shoulder and waist before you load up. Once the kid is loaded, there are minor adjustments to make the journey more comfortable. Today, I accidentally tested how secure my kid is in the carrier as I lost my footing and crashed onto my side. As I slammed my knee into a rock, the carrier was jolted at a 90 degree angle with the momentum pulling him out of his seat. Yet, he stayed put as the interconnected thigh and shoulder strapping held him snug, and the only thing that went flying was his sun hat. He didn't even make a sound, and continued on after his hat was retrieved. The storage is adequate for short hikes. I use it for hikes under 2-3 hours, but the storage area is sufficient for his needs plus water and a snack for me. Obviously as my son gets older, I might run into issues with space, but I'll cross that road later.

Worth the money!

We started out with the basic Kid Comfort (no chin pad or foot stir-ups and not compatible with accessories) And loved it but switched it out for this one for added comfort. This pack is great. Comfortable for me and my husband to switch out wearing it and our kid loves it too.

Light, comfortable & perfect for the whole fam!

We've always erred on the side of lightweight and good air ventilation so we've been BIG fans of the Kid Comfort Air but the Kid Comfort Pro has us switching gears. It's lightweight, has the ventilated back, has the built-in sun cover, cushioned chin pad for your little one and padded sides if they slump over, and tons of storage. A highlight that I didn't initially take much notice of is the removal pack. If you have older kids who like to carry their own packs (with toys or whatever they choose that day) this is perfect. It's a little big on my tall 4 year old but not so big that he can't wear it. We pulled it out mid-hike and it was the perfect motivator to finish the hike. For us, the ability to easily adjust the carrier is crucial. Some days my husband (6') is carrying, other days it's me (5'3"). He has broad shoulders, I have hips. And, yet the carrier is comfortable for both us and so incredibly easy to adjust that we can just toss it in the car and quickly pull some straps once we're at the trail. Bottom line -- Love! Flat trails, hills, rough terrain...We're looking forward to the adventures.

Great Kid Carrier!

I actually bought this as a gift to my daughter and son-in-law to use with our 1 year old grand daughter. They have used it several times and tell me it is perfect. They say it it comfortable to wear, easy to adjust, and they especially like the rain/sunshade. The pockets and compartments built in to it are very useful as well.

Holds the Kiddo

Great little piece of kit. Plenty of storage and room for the little one. Love the adjust ability as my partner and I are different heights so trading off is easier. The stirrups and height adjust are a little finicky but workeable with some persistence. The sunshade is a definite must and kiddo loves having a shady place to observe from. Carries the kiddo high enough so that they have an unimpeded view and can interact and look around yet the weight still seams nice and close to the body for good balance. Doesn't feel top heavy at all. Use for trail hikes and nature walks. Also use a lot for walking around town/city. More convenient then a stroller and makes navigating through crowds much easier.
