Survived for almost 14 months as my go-to baselayer in any activity where I might get down to a single layer (and where I live I can wear shorts in winter in some of the areas). Fits to size, good shape, very nice material, cool and light and takes little to no space at all. After 50-80 outings (mostly 12+hr hikes and trail runs) and subsequent washes became less stretchy and started to tear when going through the bushes (before that it used to just stretch instead of tearing). So I just got myself a new one
I've now tried about all your Mountain Hardwear materials and I absolutely love the Crater lake material, this is my primary top layer while skinning up backcountry mountains in the spring time when it gets very hot and I need a sun protection layer but something very light yet comfortable on my skin that I can sweat through. This is also my primary sleep attire. On a low note, I'd much rather have the logo on the sleeves like the last batch compared to the chest, I think it looks more professional.
Been using this for my trip to Hawaii. Superlight, breathable, stretchy, and doesn't reek even after hours of sweaty hiking! I've been really impressed.
First off, the good: the actual design of the hoody is great. It's loose enough to breathe on a hot hike, form fitting enough to be flattering, stretchy enough to be comfortable. The red color looks great, the hood fit is fantastic, and the fabric is thin enough to breathe well. There is one MAJOR flaw, however: this hoody is not durable AT ALL. On the second wear EVER since I purchased this hoody, the sleeve stitching began to unravel. The waist already developed holes where the backpack hip strap clip was. To me, that is completely unacceptable for a product in this price range. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a product that can actually last more than two wears.
This hoodie exceeded my expectations. The fit is very nice, I am 5’ 11” 190 with about a 44” chest for reference. The material is very stretchy and extremely breathable. I wore it on a trip to southern California where I hiked in Joshua Tree National Park, and also explored the Palm Springs area where it got up to 95° and I was comfortable. I live in northern New Hampshire so definitely not accustomed to that kind of heat but this shirt worked very well.
I just received this, tried it on, and weighed it. I have yet to wear it outside. I am 6'0", 155lbs, and typically wear a 15 1/2, 34-35 dress shirt. The medium fits me well, not tight nor baggy. The arms are a good length, and the torso a bit long. The material is thin as expected, but comfortable. The hood is a bit snug, but this is good as the wind won't always blow it off. I bought this on sale. I was looking for this type of sun hoodie, and was sold by the advertised weight of 4.2 oz. My medium, however, weighs 6 oz. I will probably still keep it as it is still pretty light and comfortable, and I don't think I will find anything lighter for the price and with the same features, but I did want to post that it does not weigh 4.2 oz.
I’ve had this hoody for almost four years, and it has stretched out so much in every direction that it isn’t practical to wear anymore. I mainly bought it for rock climbing, but the sleeves now extend past my wrists and the bottom interferes with clipping carabiners to my harness. It fit great for the first couple years!
I own at least 10 of these shirts. They are my everyday go to. I usually purchase 3 or 4 each year. The moisture wicking properties of the fabric help to maintain a consistent body temperature keeping you cool in the summer while maintaining enough heat to stay comfortable indoors in the winter. My only complaint is the screen printed logo begins to peel away and the elastine fabric stretches out over time. We always wash on delicate and hang dry only. Half of my hoodies have gone to the dedicated work shirt only box. The shirt pictured shows an example of this. The logo now reads either “A Nut” or “A Hole”. I would give a 5/5 if the logo print held up better. But hey, if the shoe fits, wear it.
Perfect product for hot and humid weather. Light weight. Comfortable. Flexible. Used it for climbing in the outdoors in India.
Very comfortable but doesn't perform as well as some other companies sun shirts. The fabric feels nice and is very stretchy but I won't wear this shirt if it's warmer than 50°F outside. Compared to some of the other shirts I have that I will happily wear on 100°F+ days, this shirt doesn't breath well and gets very humid and hot on the inside. Being super hot doesn't allow me to stay protected from the sun because I'm not using the hood or the thumb holes or even keeping sleeves down. I consider the crater lake hoody to be my chilly weather sun hoody. Also, all synthetic shirts smell with use but this one really stinks after wearing it.
