I loved the styling of these shoes and it is clear that they are high quality in material and manufacturing. They were exactly what I wanted - stylish but functional hiking shoes. Not big and clunky, but something with good support and a sole for some solid day hiking in varying terrain. They fit a slender foot really well too. However, they did not have enough cushioning around the ankle and where the shoe hit on my inside ankle bone just made it feel uncomfortable. After walking around my house in them and realizing that my ankle bone was getting sore, I returned these to the store for a different pair of day hiking shoe.
I wanted hiking shoes for travel so I didn’t have to lug boots with me and these are beyond perfect. I did the Inca Trail in these and I went up and down the mountains like a happy little alpaca, sure footed and joyful, and have since brought them to Europe and Central America, not to mention the East Coast of the US of A for hikes strenuous and easy. Size 8.5 was slightly too large but 8 was slightly tight (I’m normally between the both) but the 8.5 with smart wool ankle height hiking socks were perfect. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy these again. They look kind of cool and European and don’t look terrible as a street show if you’re trying to travel light.
I was looking for shoes to wear for walking on pavement in Europe. I have narrow feet and hoped that having the laces come close to the front of this shoe would let me make adjustments to keep the shoe in place. Right out of the box, both pairs felt great but within 20 minutes of walking around inside, the main toe joints in both feet started to be very painful. The next day I tried again after loosening the laces a lot. Same problem: big toe joint agony, both feet. These are nice-looking shoes and may work for other people's feet, just be aware that the forefoot of the shoe is very wide and that you may experience toe joint pain in these shoes.
I have been a huge fan of Asolo from the beginning of my hiking career. I thought the older model they had that was similar was out of production for good so I babied my old pair, only taking them on the really long, difficult hikes. Then they came out with the Space GV and I am in love!! Comfortable right out of the box, fit just like the older model, and the insole.... I don't know what you did to the insole but I like it! So Squishy! I did an urban hike (concrete through the city) with a full pack load then worked a full shift on my feet at urgent care. I woke up this morning with NO foot pain or blisters!! I'm doing another training hike with a pack today. The old model was great but these are even better. Thank you Asolo for making them again!!
I usually wear a size 8 1/2 in hiking shoes/running shoes/hiking boots. I ordered size 8 in these and they were way to big, so I exchanged them for size 7.5, which were also too big. I really like the look and warmth of the shoes, so I exchanged them yet again for a size 7, which I think will end up working for me. Unfortunately they did not have these in the store, so I had to order online in order to try them on. I suggest ordering at least one full size down than your typical size.
I have been shopping for light hiking shoes that can also work as moderately stylish walking/all-purpose shoes for carry-on only travel. These shoes met my stylishness criteria, but unfortunately they were not comfortable enough. The insole appears cheap and is not supportive for my moderately-high arches. Also, the toe box lacks volume which rules them out as both hiking and travel shoes. These shoes might work better for someone with flatter and/or low-volume feet. Also, the sizing is very strange.
Shoes are very comfortable! Easy to adjust how tight or loose they are with the laces. I had foot surgery and planter fascitis. My foot swells occasionally and it has been hard to find a comfortable, adjustable shoe that provides support and is comfortable to wear for long periods of time. These shoes provide support without being too stiff. Are they "cute?" No. But they are GREAT for trail walking/hiking in the woods.
Very comfortable from the moment I put them on. I have 2 pairs of Asolo hiking boots, and wear a 9 in both. I had to size down to 8.5 for this shoe, mainly because I wanted a summer shoe that I could wear with just a light sock.
I love my previous pairs of Asolo hikers. Wear them everywhere and they fit so nice and support my feet. Bought these pair as a replacement to my thoroughly loved but worn out walking/hiking Asolo shoes but found out they are too flexible to be good for my feet. I have plantar fasciitis and these just do not provide enough support. Thankfully REI has a generous return policy.
I have these in the North Sea color and also in the “lime green” color (direct from Asolo in Italy a couple of years ago once I figured out my size). I usually wear US 9 or EU 39, with these I’m wearing US 8 EU 40. Italian sizing is by 1/4s or something, generally challenging. I use these for street and gravelly trail shoes, mostly when traveling. For reference, I’m wearing US 9 EU 40.5 with La Sportiva TX4, an equally fun shoe. I can’t remark on either for more serious hiking (yet). I have a wide forefoot.
