REI Website listed the wrong size
Nothing is wrong with the Buff at all, but with how it was listed on the website. I thought the difference between the $22 and $30 product was going to be that some were discontinued patterns and on clearance. Apparently the difference is that you get a Buff half the size of what you're expecting. The worst part is, the packaging that my Buff came with said clearly that the product was a half-size and would be smaller. If the product itself is advertised as smaller, REI should list it under the regular-sized product and then make no attempt to clarify this difference. Half a Buff is useless for what I need.
Adapts for different conditions.
I used to wonder what benefit a buff provided. I’ve used one my last few hikes and now won’t go without one. Just finished a 50 mile section of the AT and here’s how I used it through the day: -wake up and it’s a bit cool, wear my buff as a beanie for some warmth. -start hiking and wear it legionnaire-style (watch the buff video), since it’s UV and bug treated it keeps the sun off and the bugs away. -later in the day, as it gets hot and I’m sweating, I wear it sweatband style. -When I get to camp I’ll hang it up and it’s dry in a short while, ready to go again. I also wear it working in the yard at home. I love my Buff!
Maine in August
I went to Maine in mid August and hiked in Baxter State Park and the Rainbow Loop trail by the West Branch of the Penobscot. The mosquito's landed on my Kirne colored buff and drilled right thru and bit me. they were relentless. I was very disappointed with the performance of this buff. I gave it 2 stars, one because it was light and stretchy, very comfortable. And 1 star for the sun protection. I was surprised that it was useless against the Mosquito's. Last year, 2018, I bought a buff with insect shield last year that worked pretty good.
Not Insect Shield
Buffs are great always. This one is not an exception. It's lightweight, super cute as a headband, and protects my ears and sometimes my neck from the sun. It is shorter than my other Buffs which is fine. It did start to pill after a few washes which doesn't bother me. The biggest frustration I have is receiving the correct product. I received a Buff that was not labeled "Insect Shield" anywhere on the tag or product. I ordered the Seary Purple and received what looked like the correct product, but no Insect Shield, which was the reason for ordering this specific item. I won't return it because I still use it, just not for the intended reasons.
Comfy fit, over-compensating with the bugs
Comfy, light, breathable. I used it on the majority of my 20mi. hike and was frequently pulling it over my head when bushes/bugs were getting bad. Unfortunately their claims that this has "Insect Shield" or whatever it's called fall quite short. I was frequently spraying my entire face/head/neck area with bug spray constantly as the the little flying lions came out in droves. I have a lovely bump on my ear which should've been covered to prove it. It's a balaclava, it does what a balaclava does, but it won't stop a motivated bugger.
2 sizes
I ordered lower cost option and received an item that appears to be CUT down by at least half. See picture. This is just wrong folks.
Buff for sun or cool mornings.
I have a few buffs for different conditions. The cooler is intended for sun protection but also works well to keep my ears warm in cooler temperatures. Comfortable fit.
Not as pictured, only half sized
Product Ordered: Buff, CoolNet UV+ Insect Shield Multifunctional Neckwear Color: VERE FROG, Size: One Size, Item: 1460180029 This is not as pictured. It is only 9", I have another Buff that is 21". The 9" version is next to useless. I bought this and another Buff for a trip to Brazil, unfortunately, I didn't realize these Buffs were so short before my trip, fortunately I also took another Buff I had and saved myself from a horrible sunburn. I don't know if the problem is with REI website or Buff's product, but I'm not happy.
Great design, loose fit
I bought this buff in anticipation of not being able to get a face covering during coronavirus. And I was right -- just after I received my order, these things started to sell out everywhere. Anyway, I selected this one because I love the national parks design, and because it's cool and comfortable. My only problem is that when I wear it over my mouth/nose, it slips down and I need to rearrange it too frequently. I don't know if it's just this particular one, because another design that my daughter wears doesn't slip. In any case, it's NOT meant for medical purposes but I'm using it in a pinch until I can get a "real" mask -- and for now, this buff is cool and comfortable and I'd still recommend it. (Maybe I just have a small head?)
Wrong Size, or listed wrong on the REI website
I got the $22 version of this item and was surprised to find it is half the size of a normal Buff. The online website has no differentiation in size on what is listed, but the tag which came with the item definitely said it was half-sized. I feel like this issue should have been caught by now. Half a buff is useless for what I need.
