Bought this pack because of the mesh back panel and it did not disappoint. My other Osprey daypack is great but lays right against my back causing quite a bit of sweat. I was hiking Humphrey's Peak in Flagstaff, AZ and needed something that was going to keep my back dry so I wasn't wet and cold when I got to the top and the wind and cold was kicking up. Great pack with plenty of storage and well thought out design features. The mesh side pockets were great with the angled access and the new design on the chest strap worked well. I am 6' and 200 lbs and it fit great and has adjustability for torso length. Overall, very happy with the purchase.
Plenty of pockets, comfortable frame, plenty of pockets. I've taken this pack up Bear Peak in Boulder, Twin Sisters in RMNP, and Grizzy Peak in Dillon. Just a small complaint the Stow-on-the-Go holder for trekking poles is not the easiest to use. However, makes for a terrific gopro/telepole holder ;-) This pack is replacing a larger 36L pack. I don't miss the extra room at all. The Mantra is an incredible pack that'll likely keep you comfortable for a couple days on the trail.
I bought this pack for day hikes longer than 10 miles in AZ where it’s silly hot and I needed extra water bottles, snacks, some gear, and my 7L camelback wasn’t quite big enough. I love it. It is very comfortable loaded up and I can fit lots of stuff in it. I love the fact my back stays a bit cooler also. My one complaint is the water bottle holders on the sides are nearly impossible to reach without help or taking off the pack. Even using the front loading hole it’s difficult. Other than that it’s solid.
Pros: The trampoline back was the selling point for me. It is actually comfortable, and a lot cooler! I now wear this pack even if I am going on a short hike when I used to use one of my smaller packs. I have 5-6 other packs and this is now my favorite. The padded shoulder and hip straps are comfortable and the all the adjustments are great. The hydration capability is great. The rain cover is a nice touch. Cons: The small side zippers on the hip belt are easy to open but difficult to close while wearing the pack. Consider making additional colors. My wife also has an Osprey pack. Thanks Osprey, trek on!
Bought the pack on the way to a hike, and REI staff helped me adjust it in the store. The next day filled the bladder, and hiked 10 hours / 14 miles in the mountains. The Manta 24 was comfortable right away, all day long!
This is an excellent day pack in every way. I routinely do 20 mile day hikes around Lake Tahoe so I need to carry a 3L bladder and enough food and possibly a little clothing if storms appear. This pack is perfect. The adjustable frame is really nice, I got used to the side-entry front pocket right away and love it. I appreciate having two belt pockets as well. The side bottle pockets are a little weird, they had side entry slots that make keeping gear in there a little insecure. I simply added a few inches of cord to each opening and now my clothing stays in there just fine. I can also get a weekender bear can in there so I plan to use it for overnights as well. Great pack. Excellent design.
This is a really great backpack and I believe the smallest available with suspension. It looks bigger than it is due to the suspension so works well for one-nighters or long day trips. I would say you still need a smaller backpack for day trips with light loads and a bigger one if you're a multi-day backpacker. Very comfortable and good weight distribution. TONS of pockets and places to store everything. The hydration pack is clutch especially since often you have to purchase that separately. Definitely not the lightest backpack but very multifunctional otherwise! Finally - love the green color!
A daypack loaded with features. While pricey, it’s essentially a $130 pack since it comes with a $30 hydration bladder. The extra bump in cost over a pack like the Talon 22 is more or less because of the internal frame of the bag (where the Talon is frameless). The Manta is a little bigger than the Talon and with this frame weighs about a pound more. This feature essentially makes the pack stay consistent in its fit as you load up the bag whereas the Talon will change fit and comfort slightly as it’s loaded. This pack breathes better than the Talon because of the mesh frame keeps your back off the load whereas the Talon has a mesh foam feature instead for breathability (which is good, but not as good as the Manta). The Talon is more versatile in that it has a bike helmet attachment built in, but if your focus is just hiking, the Manta is clearly the superior bag. If you hike ultralight and don’t carry much gear, the Manta with its frame may be overkill and add unnecessary weight so choose based on your own pursuits. For reference, weight wise, I just carry the essentials for a PNW hike (including rain gear), first aid kit, knife, food, etc. The included hydration bladder is the lt 2.5L reservoir. It’s good. Much better than the cheap stuff and doesn’t leak. Included magnet sternum strap holder is luxury. Another bonus is this comes with a built in rain cover on the bottom of the pack. As such, this is a nice pack for wet weather regions. The Talon does not come with one. Another note, this does not have an included whistle (that I’ve found) like Talon on the sternum strap. Everything feels high quality (zippers, features, face fabric, heavy nylon bumpers on bottom of frame when you place the bag down, etc.) so you get what you pay for as typical with Osprey.
perfect daypack with more than enough features. 24L is plenty for extended day hikes. super comfortable. fits my iphone x max in the hip belt. green looks like the green online. so far no squeaky frame.
I got this for my boyfriend and he’s really pleased with it. Like all Osprey packs with a hip belt, the hip belt helps to keep some of the weight off the shoulders and distributes the weight more evenly. The chest straps and shoulder straps enable the pack to sit closer to the body, but the arch in the design of the back keeps your back from staying sweaty. We took this on a couple of longer hikes, and he said he didn’t have any issues with it. It also comes with a rain cover, which is a plus. This is a well-made hydration pack.
