This jacket did not survive a 2 hour rain storm at outdoor preschool. The bottom layer is not waterproof. Disappointed REI would use such a substandard material in their gear. This was clearly not tested.
Our daughters are 9 1/2, so we bought size M 10-12. The jackets were too small. The kids aren’t exactly freaks: They’re skinny and their height is middle of the pack in their grade. One of the girls is slightly smaller and could have worn the jacket for maybe six months, but even then it was tight if she tried to layer it with a fleece. The other is slightly taller, and the sleeves were comically short, exposing most of her wrist. We otherwise like the quality of the jackets and will exchange them. But it seems really weird to buy a 14-16 for an average 9-year-old.
Great fit! Comfortable across shoulders and body even with a puffy coat underneath. Purchased for a 5’1 adult, 115 pound adult. Love the colors, doesn’t feel overly juvenile.
Nice fit, blocked the wind, but he hoodie kept sliding out of his head because there was no elastic keepers.
We ordered in several brands of rain-coat because we found it so hard to find one that fit well, allowed for layering underneath, was comfortable, and truly waterproof. This one fit the bill and my daughter loves it. We got the green color, which is bright. It is very light-weight, so will be good in the summer as well as the current cool season.
My daughter goes to forest school and it’s so important to have a comfortable waterproof layer. We have a Patagonia one too but my daughter has also preferred the rei one. It’s lasted 2 and a half years of her wearing in year round and still looks great! We bought a Eddie Bauer one that was on sale and that one looks really bad and stained after only a couple wears. Definitely buying Rei in the future for her!
The coat is a decent rain coat. The zippers on the pockets are not good, they get stuck often and do not open/close easily. The zipper on the front of the jacket works fine, it is a different style of zipper than the pockets. I bought it on sale and am happy with its basic features.
We've had this jacket 1.5 years, one for each of my girls. My kids have maybe worn these jackets 5 times (FL kids don't believe in jackets). We used them in a FL downpour today and my kids got soaked. The rain went right through the jackets. The web description says "fully waterproof." I thought it was a fluke when the first kid got wet. Then the second jacket failed. Definitely do not rely on these for heavy rain.
Great raincoat, our little guy loves it. Very functional and looks great on him. He’s generally a 4/5T and the XXS fits well.
I was in a market for a rain jacket. My Gore jacket was getting old and the pocket zipper broke (no easy way to fix unfortunately). I was down to Gore Wear R5 or OR for the next one. Since I mainly use it during cycling and at campgrounds at night, I wanted to check the size. My decision factors were 1) side pockets (hence, I prefer "running" jacket over cycling one), 2) bright color, and 3) feel comfortable over my thin puffy jacket. Unfortunately REI store (Seattle Flagship) didn't carry any of the jackets I had in mind in inventory and/or layout by brands makes it difficult to find what I am looking for. I was almost giving up when I walked by the kid's section. I found the jacket I was looking for. L (14-16) seems to be comparable with women's size S. The sleeves and torso fit me (I am 5'7"). Pockets are deep enough for my phablet. All and all, I am very happy with my purchase (especially spent less, lol). I have already taken it to my cycling tour when it has on/off rain. It kept me dry.
