Good but could be better
After using this bladder in my hip pack for a handful years, I can definitely say this is a good bladder with good bite valve. It holds water very well and is easy to fill, similar features to other Osprey bladders. The biggest con; hard to dry out after each use and hard to clean the inside due to the large dot seams both left and right of the bladder. These dots make it impossible to flip the bladder walls inside-out in order for a good cleaning and they make it useless to clean in a dishwasher. I think a harder duro overmold on one side of the bladder would have been more useful if maintaining bladder shape during use was a concern and the purpose for these dot seams.
Great Unique Shape, Specific Cleaning Methods
Like the other reviewer mentioned, it can be hard to clean. I still like and use it a lot, as the shape is unique, but just have to do some specific things to clean it. Using a bottle brush is pretty much the only way to be able to clean the entire interior surface. It's unfortunate it doesn't come with a quick release, so I bought and installed one on my own. When I dry it, I hang it upside down and put napkins / wire / chopsticks inside of it to allow airflow / keep the bag from sticking to itself. I've had no problems and I definitely prefer the Hydrapak closure over the Camelbak one. I had a leak in mine after a couple years of heavy abuse and Hydrapak is sending me a new one at no cost. Leaks I've experienced with Hydrapak bladders can be resolved in the field with duct tape. I'm happy.
Smashing Retrofit Reservoir!!
I purchased this reservoir to replace the original one in my waist pack. I love the bite valve, twin-welded circular baffles, and the easy slide opening that makes it super easy to fill. It’s perfect for my 10 mile local trails!
Do Not Buy — Impossible to Clean
This reservoir cannot be turned inside out, nor does it have a detachable hose. The design features two heat sealed circles on either side that cause the bag to collapse on itself and stick together even when you are actively trying to hold it open. Osprey has clearly given up on this product as well as they still do not manufacture a wire hanger specifically for this hydration pack. You might be able to wipe the insides with a brush, but you’re never going to get it to dry, no matter how much spare time you have on your hands. Total disappointment and a waste of money — should not even be sold in stores.
Do Not Buy - Impossible to Clean
I purchased this hydration pack at a major outdoor equipment retailer without checking the reviews online first. After using it for one trip, I can confirm that this pack can be neither cleaned nor dried. Osprey does not sell a hanger, the item's design keeps it from being turned inside out, and the sides stick together and trap moisture even when you are actively trying to hold it open. Even an attempt at hand washing and drying is impossible. I feel very deceived, as this will almost certainly now end up in the trash. I suspect this will be a discontinued item soon enough.
A couple frustrations
I'm primarily a Mtb biker and was looking to get away from the Backpack style hydration for shorter fare weather rides. The issues are stated above but to clarify- the bladder opening is too small for a med size hand and the bladders anti-slosh laminated parts make it impossible to dry. Big time suck and frustration. Maybe a special drying hanger like camelback? Second issue is location of the reflective strap to hook a safety flashing light. It's so thin and placed so low that the light faces the ground and flops around. Placed right below your logo and wider webbing would alleviate issue. Lastly, with a full bladder and necessary save a ride items (tire levers, 3 co2's, multi tool) it's quite heavy on the hip bones
Hard to clean and dry
Really helpful during early covid when we were wearing masks outside. Great in a lumbar pack. Really hard to clean. As another reviewer mentioned, the two sides of the bladder are stuck together with two dot seams about 1/3 across the bladder. Can't turn it inside out. Can't fit a bladder drying plastic hanger into the pack to keep the sides from sticking when drying. I use a clumsy, slow and tricky combo of chopsticks and spatulas to keep this open while drying. This would be a terrific bladder if Osprey also sold some kind of lumbar-with-dot-seams drying jig.
Great pack, horrible bladder design
Love the lumbar pack for MTB but forget about getting the bladder clean or dry. I have spent a week trying to dry the bladder and still it will not completely dry like my other Osprey bladders. All due to the dot system. This does not allow proper expansion tools or items into the bladder to dry out. Osprey is the best, hands down as I own several various packs for years but this bladder design is the worst item Osprey has ever developed or made. I recommend the pack not the bladder, pack is 5 stars bladder a 1 because no zeros allowed.
Horrific to clean
I just got this reservoir and wanted to clean it before using it. It is incredibly awkward to clean with the tiny opening, and then no way to keep it open to let the water drip out, since the opening is very stiff so it closes unless you have something in there to keep it open. Also, the hose isn't detachable, which just makes any dry-hanging strategy impossible.
Well Made - Don't be Dissuaded by the Cleaning Rev
I think this is a very well made bladder. I have used it regularly for two years and it is still going strong. High end materials and fits perfectly in the fanny pack. I bought two more of these for my teenage boys. Yes, you do need to hang it upside down to dry, but if you remove the rubber mouth piece, open the valve and put the plastic closure in the large main opening, it holds the orifice open, drains and dries completely. I have not experienced the cleaning concerns others have voiced.
