I bought this box for my 2016 Outback and it was great - made the move to my Ascent and was also a perfect fit. Our family puts most of our cargo in the box to travel so our dogs can come with us on longer trips. Since we’ve had it, it’s been used maybe 15 times. Now for the problems. When opening, closing, and securing the lid, the hinges are frustrating. Luggage and gear need to be strategically packed so nothing interferes with the hinges. That’s not usually a problem - but the size of the lid and the flimsy-ness of the hinges create quite a spectacle for anyone watching this packing process. Two people lowering the lid helps with that. About 3 years/6 trips in, the locks started getting sticky. Thule suggested a little WD-40. That didn’t really help. But, I was always afraid that I would turn the key a little too hard (because that’s what I had to do to lock and unlock it) as it would not want to turn smoothly or come out of the lock easily. Then, while packing for the return trip home on our last vacation (trip 15), it happened. The key broke off in the lock. We had to duct tape the lid shut and hope it wouldn’t fly open during the 400 mile ride home. Called Thule and told them about the problem and my disappointment in this very expensive box. I was sent a new core that was keyed to the other core with matching keys. But - I couldn’t get the broken key out of the core. We tried to drill the core out - at the recommendation of Thule. We managed to do that, but we are unable to get the new core secured and functional in the box. Very disappointed. I’d almost recommend a less expensive box - so if there are issues, it’s less painful to replace.

Good size and fits well on my Rav4

I bought this for the Christmas holidays for my 2023 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid and it fits great! My trunk hatch is about 15cm away from the end of the box. I like that I'm able to adjust the feet with their long adjustable mount to fit my factory installed bars. There is a tonne of space, so we fit 3 duffle bags inside with some backpacks, small bags and nordic skis with ample room still left. The locking mechanism is nice too because the entire grey lock turns making it an easy handle with no risk of the key snapping. I haven't noticed any extra fuel consumption on a 1000km road trip.

The best in my humble opinion

I can load tons of cargo in this box, By doing that it leaves my suv with 100% interior space for comfortable travel. Not to mention the clean sleek design trust me you need it in your life.

Really roomy, fragile locking mechanism

Bought to supplement the storage space of my Subaru Crosstrek. Much bigger in person than the pictures suggest, so make sure you've got a good place to store it laying flat. Can fit a huge amount of luggage/gear and it didn't decrease the fuel efficiency by much. On a recent trip, I was able to fit 5 pairs of skis and 2 snowboards comfortably with all their bindings attached. This would be 5 stars, but the locking mechanism is flimsy and the keyhole is already feeling warped. Sometimes the key gets a little stuck and I have to jiggle it out. I'm told that it's possible to break the key inside the lock if you turn it too hard.

The best of them all

In every manner, superior to competitors for slight price hike ($700 vs $560 for most direct competitors). Latches that're beefier, quick toolless install, aerodynamic bar tolerance grips, semi-rigid lid, security, usability (lid closed before key release is ... key :)), skin and shape lower noise, aerodynamic to save gas and noise, design is top notch, support and documentation are right on. Few downsides: lid's could be honeycomb printed to be more rigid as light, total weight is hard solo (56lbs is heavy), and tad pricey but expected (avoid non-REI dealers, they overcharge).

So far so good

I agree w/ PeterY's review: it's surprisingly large and sturdy and handles well at highway speeds with minimal added wind noise and drag. But the locking mechanism is finicky and I'm worried if it ever fails to close properly the box would become effectively useless. I've only used it for 1 trip so far, but that was 900 miles in 14 hrs.

Great product!

We love this cargo box! We mounted it on the factory roof rails of my Toyota Grand Highlander and it was perfect. We drove from Nebraska to Alaska in all sorts of weather conditions and nothing inside got damaged or wet. It also for 4 carry on size suitcases and a huge military duffle as well as a laundry bag that was full at times.

Solid roof top luggage carrier

I first rented a Thule roof top luggage carrier for a trip. This was after installing Thule crossbars on my vehicle. After getting familiar with the locking system, the unit performed very well. So well that I purchased my own Thule roof top luggage container. I look forward to using it soon.

Just used this for a family trip and it’s perfect. I was able to install it on our 2023 Kia Telluride by myself. Was simple to install. Holds a ton of stuff. I’ve been recommending this to all my friends.
