Practically Perfect! (perhaps 1 particular point)

We recently upgraded to this box because we needed one that was wider to accommodate stuff of ours that can't be collapsed or folded. This box does not disappoint from past versions. What I like: The same indestructible material, secure keyed entry on both sides, LOVE the Quick click attachments and that they slide forward/backward to mate to your rack. Such a time saver! Also, they have a feature that assures you never over-tighten. Once optimum torque is achieved you feel and hear a click and it won't tighten anymore. Nice. Since we bought this in November we've traveled some 4,000 miles with it and have had 0 issues. It has kept our stuff secure and dry. 1 very minor quibble: how it opens. You turn the key and have to lift it just right. If you don't, it opens very awkwardly. Like a drunkard, and there's no real handle. Closing it can also be tricky if you have stuffed it very full. With nothing to grab onto, I use my arm and elbow to compress it down so that the 3 hinges catch. I've almost slipped off the car a few times attempting a tight close. :-) In my research, the next model up claims to have a nicer opening handle. But is it worth the pricey up-cost? (not a word) It wasn't for us. But that is now your call. This roof box will handle a lot of stuff! But it works best if your luggage is duffel and/or soft-sided. If it all can compress together, then you can fit sooo much! This box fits just fine on a Subaru Forester with rails and Yakima round bars . I've attached 2 photos. Hope this helps, Safe travels everyone!

Box failed in the middle of a road trip

The box in general is a good product, no water leaks and minimal noise when driving. Those are the positives of this box. The problem was with the locking mechanism that was a pain in the rear since we picked up the box from REI. It was very hard to pull the key inside, also very very hard to lock the box after putting stuff in. At one point one side came undone while the other side was open. It took almost two hours between three people to make it to work again and I have to leave it close for the rest of the trip until I got back home. Thule should improve the locking mechanism of this box. It is a pain to close and to lock almost all the time. Thank God, REI return policy is awesome and they really stand before their customers expectations.

Perfect for our ski trip!

This pod fits perfectly on our 2023 Bronco Sport, including the ability to use the tailgate uninhibited. When I picked it up at REI, the associate helped me put it on the roof, and I was able to get it mounted to our crossbars in a matter of minutes. I’m very pleased with how substantial the mounting hardware is. We were able to fit four pairs of skis, two boot bags, and lots of other misc. items in it for a recent ski trip. The only reason I didn’t give this roof box five stars is because of the lock and hinges. The lock was very finicky for its first couple of uses, but seemed to break in after that. The hinges were also a little wonky and didn’t feel very stable. I’m concerned they will fail prematurely since they are plastic. I completely understand that if this were beefed up any more than it is, it would be more difficult to load and unload from our roof. As it stands, I’m able to handle it by myself (5’-8”, 150lb.) Other than that, this is a very well made box for the money.

easy fit and install

I spent a long time online trying to figure out whether this would fit on my car....too long. I ended up going to REI with a tape measure and left the store 10 minutes later with the Thule Force XT XL on my roof. Answers to questions that I couldn't easily find online: 1. This cargo box attaches via an adjustable clamp, so it fits a variety of crossbars. 2. The actual placement of the box on the crossbar is also adjustable by a few inches toward the front or rear. All of the data that I found online told me that this size would not fit on my car, but it did with inches to spare. The trunk fully opens and there is no overhang in the front. I have an Audi Q5.

The right choice!

I have a Toyota Sequoia so I was looking for an easy to install, access and operate cargo carrier as it was mounted in a tall vehicle. I found it with this Thule carrier. It. It is off all of the above. The “claw” makes attaching and removing easy and secure. Suggestion: extend the roof bars as far apart as your roof rack allows to prevent vibration of the carrier in high winds or at high speed traveling. The locking mechanism is easy and secure- your key does not release if the lock is not engaged. The overall quality and space exceeded my expectations. Overall a great value for a high end carrier. After searching online reviews and looking at other carriers I know I made the right choice.

Horrible, cheap locking system

I loved everything about this carrier except the lock, and it was bad enough that I returned it. This is so easy to install, plenty of storage space, quiet and strong. However the lock system is just cheap, flimsy, and not worth it for the price. It doesn’t want to latch properly whether empty or full. Temperature made no difference. If you can live with that tho - easily holds anything from suitcases to snowboards and gear. Just not worth it for this price.

Exactly What I Was Looking For

I did extensive research for different cargo boxes on the market to try and find one that would do a couple things. One was to fit on our Subaru Forester without hitting the rear hatch when opened. The other was to fit my skis which are 189cm in length. This box did both of those things. Having owned an older Thule Pulse Alpine cargo box this model has improved on several features. It has a better locking and opening mechanism. Also the the clamps and the tracks inside the box make it much easier to line the box up straight and ensure you have the clamps centered over the crossbars. Box also opens from either side which is really helpful. Wind noise has been minimal to non existent when driving on the highway so far. REI staff was helpful with this purchase as well.

Cheap latching system

Like other reviews, I would agree that the box is roomy and lightweight as well as easy to install. There is one major flaw in the design though that made me return it to REI. It has a terrible locking mechanism that is incredibly flimsy. It became stuck on us four times. The first two were in warm weather and the last two were in cold weather. After the last time where it became stuck in 20 degree weather when my fingers were numb by the end of the fiasco, we decided to return the box. We decided that it doesn’t work unless it is loaded with light things and only filled about 3/4 of the way full. A box that you cannot fill doesn’t fit our families needs. We returned it for another Thule with a different locking mechanism. We are hoping this one works.

Hinges bend

After one use, while unloading, the back hinge was bend. The front hinge had a bar protecting it but not the back. Had my items strapped down but back hinge was bent. Returned to REI with no problems. Not well designed. Will maybe consider a cargo rack instead.
