My favorite running shorts
I have heard great things about the strider pro running shorts, but for a long time I balked at spending that much money on a pair of shorts. However, I run a lot, and finally decided it made sense to have a couple pairs of top of the line shorts. These do not disappoint. They are extremely comfortable and stylish, and I really like the 5" length. They have some nice pockets for easy storage, including a zippered pocket on the back that I can put my car key in and be confident that it won't get lost on a run. I have worn these shorts for everything, from short training runs to ultra marathons, and I plan to wear them for my road marathon later this year. Awesome shorts!

Not A Pro Running Short any more
WARNING: These Strider Pro Shorts are not the same as previous iterations. These shorts used to have a compression liner that was also a short. Now they have a compression bikini brief in them. The seems of the brief sit in the crease of your leg in an uncomfortable way. The draw string is no longer elastic and the material is a little stiffer and less compliant than the original. None of the changes to this short were good ones. I will no longer be purchasing the strider pro short.

Great for ultras

I have owned three pair of the Strider Pro shorts over the last 4 years. I run in them 3 to 5 times a week and wash them after every use. I have averaged 60 miles per week and all three pairs are in excellent shape. The only signs of wear are from pinning my race number on the leg. The zipper pocket in the back is great to securely stow car keys and the front pockets are large enough to hold several gels comfortably. The front pocket is deep enough to hold a phone pre/post run, but I would not trust it in there for a run. These shorts are more comfortable and durable than Salomon S-Lab. I have had no chaffing and they have been cool in 90+ degree weather.

I want to like these...

I want to like these. They are the only running shorts i have found that fit a normal sized phone up near the waist band where it doesn't bounce around, and without having to use a fanny pack while running. I know runners would just say to not bring your phone, but i use it to track, route and for music. However my problem arise from how unreliable these shorts now. I have had two pairs, and both pairs have ripped at the seam in the crotch in four months. I run about 12-20 miles a week, so I am only getting about 200 miles out of these. And im not sizing too small, they aren't tight at any location.

Best running shorts

I have been running in the Patagonia Stider Pro 5" shorts for about 3 years now. I have 3 different colors and they are 100% my favorite pair of shorts. I've ran up to 100 miles straight with them with no issues. These shorts are the only ones I wear for ultra races. I'll point out that the liner is a brief, other reviews seem to have complained about chaffing. If you need a boxer liner this would not be the short for you.

Light, breezy, loved, could be built better for $$

First, I loved these shorts. They were easy and light to wear! Great pockets, yes a bit small but what can one expect? Second, for the price, I expected a longer life and 'toughness' to the material. I got the right fit but a rip here and a rip there even within a month of life has me thinking that I overpaid even beyond my usual overpaying for gear. If I paid x amount, I expect a good life span, not 3 months and falling apart at the seams.

Liner is very tight

I'm slim at 6'2", 165lb, and at 31" waist. I ordered the size medium and found that they fit my waist perfectly. However, the inner liner is so tight, like way too tight for me to even imagine running in them. The back of the liner squeezes right up against the bottom of my butt cheeks, and the front of the liner jams up against, well, everything else. I had to return these.

Lacks durability

My favorite running shorts as far as fit and comfort go. Unfortunately they are coming apart at the inseams on both legs after about 2 months of use for marathon training. I run about 40-50 miles/week and cycle through 4 different brands of running shorts throughout the week. The Patagonia ones are the most expensive and the only shorts in need of repair. I do tend to wear them on my long runs due to their comfort, but it’s a bummer the won’t hold up.

A step backwards.....

Wore a pair of these for hiking the PCT. Amazing pockets and shorts. This new version has a cheaper fabric and they changed the boxer briefs to a brief that I find Uncomfortable. Hoping they change back.
