Great style, OK warmth, iffy assembly

The style and fit are superb. As an around-town jacket, it's eye-catching and unique. The merino lining is heavenly. Love this as a jacket. As a mid-layer, it's fine for not-too-cold days. Could be warmer. Then the trouble started. The vented arm and side panels (black in color) are meshy and are apparently not sewn well onto the shell fabric. After 1.5 months of moderate use, they came unsewn in two places. Warranty covered a replacement, but still, I'm very skeptical that this design is durable. Beware.

Hey there. Thank you for taking the time to review this piece, your feedback is what continues to allow us to improve! That is very unusual for the paneling to come undone in that way - so we appreciate you sending it back our way so that we can take a closer look at what happened. Our apologies again regarding your experience with our customer service. I am going to personally have them get in touch with you as soon as possible to assure we are in good standing!

Great All Around Jacket For Cool Weather

Great lightweight jacket that I wear to hike, or as an all around jacket when the temperatures are not cold enough to warrant a heavier one. I usually wear a size medium, and this jacket in a medium fits just right, tailored to my body. I chose to go with a lsize large so I could layer a fleece vest or windproff sweater under it. That worked great and because of the slim fit, the large was not too big on me without the layers. I liked the jacket so much, my wife bought one too and she loves hers.

Lightweight, Flexible, and Comfortable

The jacket is comfortable, lightweight, and flexible. It is ideal for driving. It is good in cold but not freezing weather. It keeps you dry during light rain or snow but not in a heavy storm. My review is based on wearing this jacket as my only coat. I would imagine it performs even better as a base layer. The quality and construction is superior. The only reason I didn't rate it five-star is I haven't used it as a base layer, yet.

probalby not

I purchased this jacket as primary outerwear not for mid-layer use. I wore it in 40 degree slightly breezy conditions and it did not keep me warm. My similar weight Arcteryx jacket is much better. I gave this 2 stars in instead of one due to the fact I have not tried using as a mid-layer under a heavy jacket in colder conditions. It is advertised as a stand alone jacket and for me it doesn't work.

Hey Dave, thank you for taking the time to review the Hoody. We are sorry this piece isn't keeping you as warm as you'd like! This Hoody is designed and curated to be a midlayer, as opposed to primary outerwear. Our main goal is to make sure you're psyched about your Smartwool pieces, so feel free to utilize our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee and send it back our way.

Protection from wind with side ventilation

Designed in USA by hikers and joggers to maximize comfort during windy and cold weather, smartwool has crafted a wool lined, attractive jacket to distinguish the user of this jacket above others. There is a wind-proof polyester shell on the front, on the back, and on the hood. Inside the polyester shell is 120 grams of the smartwool proprietary smart loft insulation to insulate the trapped air near the body. The sides and the forearm sections of the jacket are made from a wool and elastin blend that lets in cool air and let's out warm perspiration. This ventilation is more subtle than the ventilation from a lot of Smartwool's other jackets. When you are not planning to be very active, this jacket is the temperature regulating piece for the winter. The 120 double corbet hoody jacket is another impressive smartwool product that is unlike any jacket I have experienced. I am 5' 11" 185lbs with broad shoulders. The medium size fits me snugly.

Great mid layer

Great layer for a spring day without a jacket, or as a mid layer under a shell for those cold windy days.
