Makes me feel safe and secure on any terrain
Love this addition to my skiing tool bag. I’ve used it in Shasta and a few couloirs around the Wasatch and loved it every time. Feel extra safe when I have this attached.
Would be good if it didn't break after the 2nd use
Pins holding everything together broke off after the second use... Poor quality.
Works on Pro Shock Trekking Poles
Disabled Senior living in large urban city and walk or use public transit with a service dog. Cars don't stop for you even if you are in the crosswalk and they have a red light. Many speed up to beat you to the curb a curb cut on a sidewalk. They think twice before rolling in past you or speeding up when they see your poles with a Whippit. I use my carbide tips when walking in traffic and around town then cover with rubber tips when I go into a building. That way I have some protection on from ends of the pole. Works for geocaching and picking up litter etc. Also a personal protection device on urban trails at night. Very useful tool in Urban settings as well as out in parks. Please make your top of line Trekking Poles available in 140 size. I have to go to your aluminum or non collapsing poles that are also not for trails. Thanks
Small, light, and adaptable
I have always been hesitant to dedicate one pole to a full-time whippet. The idea of having the small ice axe hanging off the front when it isn't needed has not appealed to me. Carrying it and two other poles is not an option as an ultralgiht ice axe is more useful. This new attachment is exactly what I wanted. I can justify carrying it for steep and no-fall-zone ski descents and backup purposes while still carrying an ice axe in ski mountaineering. The alpine version is on my list of devices to compare, but for now, this is a useful, well proportioned, and the attachment does not show signs of possible failure that I feared. Also, the pole system allows to repurpose your poles as tent poles in one of BD's nearly freestanding tents. I have ye to try the combination but for those really counting ounces, that could be a great set up!

Just in case
While it looks a bit wonky and feels like you're choking a crow in your hand at first, its a great tool for those times when you just don't want to fall and need some extra confidence that you have a means to prevent a disaster. Whether backcountry skiing or spring and winter mountaineering, wherever my poles go this goes too.
Solid tool
I don't go on steep snow without this. It is always there and rarely in the way so I don't get lazy taking it out for a short slope and have been known to use it more than once when I wouldn't have taken out an ice axe.
handy and easy to swap.
Have yet to really put this pick to use. I got it for spring steeps. It fit quickly into the whippet ready pole set. It comes with the rubber protector BTW.
Love it!
I got one and I used it once so far, but I liked it a lot. Very helpful while skinning on a steep terrain. I’ll probably buy a second one.
Great accessory
Have always loved whippets and still have a pair of the original design. The new removable version is solid.
Whippet
The whippet is the perfect addition to my ski mountaineering kit. It works great with my compactor poles.
