Zipper
I have had this jacket for just over a year now. I have had some issues with the zipper mainly with it not staying zipped or getting off track easily. I actually went to return it the other day because of the zipper getting a little worse but I was just over the year mark so I could not. It is a pretty warm jacket though and also comfortable. It does not allow for great range of motion especially in the armpit areas so it is for sure just meant for casual wear.
Good in town, ok on the trails
I got this jacket in the Fall of 2019 for my birthday. My first impression was that it was seriously comfortable. I'm a tall and lanky dude and the medium fit me well. The fabric is cozy, soft to the touch and yet surprisingly durable (still not enough to trust it around sharp tools, but more than something like a Micro Puff or other UL jacket). I have yet to put a hole in it. Its warmth is on par for a 60g synthetic jacket and I feel cozy in it around the low 50s/high 40s static and until the mid 20s when I'm active. The hood fits well, although the cord that fits it to your head can become uncomfortable after a while. I find that wearing the hood over a cap works well. My main criticisms are of the features they didn't include. I would have liked to see a way to adjust the hem to trap some extra warmth and zippers on the hand warmer pockets. Other than that, the jacket is solid. Things to keep in mind: This is not a technical jacket (although I have pushed it farther than I thought it could go), it has a casual feature set, and is built really well (on par with the other best-in-the-business brands). I wouldn't consider this jacket an amazing value, but it is still nice all the same.
Zipper Trashed just after the 1-Year Mark
The coat is decent and stylish. However, the main zipper, as others have mentioned, make the coat completely unusable. This also occurred just past the 1 year mark, so I cannot return or exchange it for a new one. It's frustrating and embarrassing to take minutes to zip up a coat every time I get up to go somewhere. Sometimes, I feel trapped in the coat as unzipping it is extremely problematic as well. I've owned a lot of things with zippers over my lifetime, none have been this terrible.
Looks great, fits well, just shy of excellent
I really like this padded hoodie. The fabric is really soft on the inside and outside and the G-Loft insulation is pretty warm. I love that the hood is padded; I can feel warmth almost immediately after putting it up. I normally wear a L for most shirts and jackets and this one is just about perfect in L. It's just a little tight in the armpits, but if I shift it up just a tiny bit, I get more than enough dexterity for driving, doing things on the ground (like striking a ferro rod), all that good stuff. One nice thing too is that it's a little longer than most jackets of this size, so when pulled all the way down it almost covers my whole butt, but not quite. After moving around normally, it rides up to maybe 2 inches below my waist, so when I bend over, it almost never rides up above my waist. This extra length is perfect! Oh and the arms aren't too long, which is a typical issue for me with Fjallraven shirts, as I am not a typical lanky Scandinavian type (more avg height and a bit stocky). If the armpits had a tiny bit more room I'd say this fits me perfectly. At first I wished the side pockets had zippers so I never have to worry about anything falling out, but they are QUITE deep, so it would be hard for something to fall out. It definitely looks better without zipper pulls dangling on the sides and functionally it's not a huge deal, so I'm OK with it. There is a small stretchy pocket on the right upper chest that can fit a big wallet or something, but it's not super tight to the fabric so I don't know that I'll use it since I'd worry about something falling out. I would have preferred a small zippered pocket. Thankfully there is one on the outside. I think this jacket has barely just enough secure carrying capacity for outdoor excursions but it would have been better with zippers everywhere just so you know you won't lose anything. I still think it's valid for trekking though and I'll be using it at camp to stay warm. My only concern besides potentially losing an item in the inner chest pocket is scratching/tearing the outer fabric while bushwhacking for firewood and whatnot. It feels somewhat durable but I suspect it won't hold up too well to thorns or a properly sharp bush twig. Oh well, that is the trade-off you make for soft fabric. I don't think I would have bought this if it used G-1000 Eco/Lite. If I plan on doing any real bushwhacking I will just put my rain jacket over it. Overall I really like this jacket and will likely be wearing it for the entire fall as my outer layer with a long sleeve t-shirt underneath, and possibly the Fjallraven Canada Shirt as it gets colder. I'll wear it into the winter as well but will need a thicker coat over the top. I already want to wear it everywhere and it's not cold enough yet! Well done Fjallraven.
Terrible zipper
Great coat with one huge flaw. The main zipper is terrible. It broke after 11 months and I had to return the coat.
Surprisingly Warm
Seemed a bit thin at first, but handled recent cold snap 15F just fine with a flannel underneath. No restriction on movement.
Perfect jacket for San Francisco's chill
This jacket may be in the running for my new favorite thing as I've been super happy with this piece. It's lightweight, but it's just long enough to keep my backside warm and the hood is perfect when the wind kicks up. I wear it around SF, including light hikes north of the city in the Marin headlands. Its weight and versatility are just what I was looking for. I have very broad shoulders which is why the XL works for me, and the body of the coat is cut on the more slim side so I don't look huge and puffy and swimming in the thing. I find that I like the absence of lots of extra pockets, zippers, etc. It reduces the visual clutter of the jacket. It's just enough for me. I sweat a bit in it, so you will want to keep an eye on the smell. I've had to launder it per the instructions to keep it fresh.
Warm with some zipper issues
Super warm and well built, I'm just not sure if I like the double zipper design. It is a little harder to take on and off than I'd like
Weird Fit
Almost great. Not cut for athletic body types. If you have broad shoulders, you wont be able to put both arms out in front of you, even if you size up. Very tight around the armholes. Wanted to like it but couldn't have typed this review while wearing it.
Great cool weather midlayer
This jacket has been great on its own for temperatures around 40F degrees and nice as a midlayer underneath a shell for temperatures below that or when it’s raining or snowing. Sizing seems to be consistent with other Fjallraven jackets I have. I’m 5’9” 145lbs and a small fits great. The material feels very nice and comfortable. Sleeves are a tiny bit long but not a negative for me. The front chest pocket is great and very convenient. Overall very happy with this purchase.
