A bit large, not super warm

I really like the jacket - it appears to be weatherproof up to my expectations. I typically wear a medium in everything, at 6'0" and 170 lb. However, the medium was far too large for me to wear day to day. I think it would be fine in terms of midsection and upper body fit as well as with warmth with a base layer and a hoodie or jacket underneath on the slopes, but the sleeves covered half of my hands and I don't think that would be resolved with a thicker layer underneath. I was looking for a more multi-use coat to wear on the winter commute in NYC and occasionally on the slopes, so will be returning and looking for something else.

Best of all I have researched

I have been researching jackets for over a month. Tried on and bought serval from TNF, Patagonia and Columbia. Overall this jacket is the best in style category. The one thing I did not care for was the larger collar, but understand it's needed and very warm when zipped over face with warm fabric. I really like that the hood is also removable. Many pockets and great feeling exterior and warm. I have been out in 15F temps and a light sweater under it is warm. I compared the Patagonia Topley side by side and I like the longer length of this Gatekeeper more. Overall very satisfied. I am 6'2" and 230# got the XL. Fits perfect

A tree-phobic jacket, prone to tearing

I wore this jacket for an approximate 15 days of springtime skiing in Colorado. I like tree skiing/riding, and Steamboat being my home mountain, that's pretty much my only option. The jacket already has two large tears in the sleeves (not even on the seams) from branches. I haven't even owned it for two months yet. Quite disappointed with the durability. I owned a cheap Analog jacket for 7+ years and hit every tree in the Rocky Mountains with it, but it never tore. Come on, TNF. Ya'll can do better.

Good jacket, poor warranty

Good jacket for skiing/snowboarding. It is lightweight and kept me warm in very cold and windy conditions. However, it developed a small tear on the seam of the sleeve, and they won't cover it under their warranty. They want to charge me over $150 to repair a 2-inch tear on the seam! That's over half of the price of the jacket. I enjoyed it while it lasted, but I will not be buying any more North Face products.

Excellent alternative to huge puffy coats

I bought this for my 6'2" boyfriend as a much-needed upgrade to his dingy outerwear selection. He's averse to the huge puffer coats so this was a perfect alternative. It's versatile enough to work for our Southern freezes and also for the real winter s when we travel up north. So far it's held up well on icy/rainy days!

Great jacket but it run BIG

This jacket is long. It seems better suited for snow boarders always sitting down. I'm 6'1 190lbs and wear a large in most things but however I'm between sizes here. Large is too big and medium is just too tight for skiing. I decided to switch this out for another jacket.

Stylish and warm

I am 6'2" and 225lbs have a Large The large fits snug and warm, and the way I like it with a sweater or fleece under. I have been looking for something I can wear to office daily but also spend time outside in Chicago winters. The hood detaches and looks great when hood not needed. The first real test for rain was last week when cutting down a Christmas tree in pouring rain. This performed well and kept me dry. I let it hang dry and when I put on three hours later it was dry. The outer shell is substantial and feels great. This is not bulky at all and I am able to do yard work, bend, and move around easily. Great pockets outside and in and the glass/giggle wipe pocket is a bonus. The collar zips up over my nose and is a warm fleece type material. I also like the TNF logo in black on the black jacket instead of standing out as a white logo. I have been outside in 10degree C temps and with a sweater under, I am warm. This is a great stylish coat with many compliments and people asking for what model it is. Great investment!

Perfect fit

I bought this coat for my boyfriend and he loves it! Fits him perfectly and it's really warm. It's really good for skiing, but not as much for hiking because it is a longer model. It's waterproof and windproof too even if it's not that thick!

Great jacket - perfect for my college age son

Purchased this jacket for my college age son for him to use going about campus, in and out of buildings in the cold Wisconsin winters. He loves it - the fit, the weight, etc.

Great jacket

I can't wait to wear this jacket on the slopes. It is very comfortable just wearing it around locally. Looking forward to trying it out in some cold snowy conditions.
