Merrell  Thermo Chill Mid Waterproof Boots - Women's

Purchased while working on trail crew in Colorado, after my previous boots (different brand) broke down after 14 weeks of work. My first day wearing them was an 11 hour work day. Very comfortable, no problems breaking them in. Great to see women's boots in all black. Sized up by half to accommodate wearing two pairs of Darn Tough socks, due to the cold while working at 10,000 ft. Insulation is definitely on the lighter side, these are great for hiking and working when its chilly out. The tread on the bottom began to break and come loose after the first day of work, but it seems that a couple of the tread nubs(?) are just weaker than the rest of the boot's tread-which held up just fine. The metal hooks for the laces were problematic, they would frequently catch the laces of the other boot, quickly unbending the hooks. The laces are strangely elastic and were a pain to keep snugly tied. Overall they are good boots, and served their purpose well.

I usually wear a kids sized shoe because I have small and skinny feet that tend to swim around in women's shoes, but I tried these on in store (during my ritual "lets see if I can find hiking boots that actually fit me now that my former less-than-great pair has worn out) and was floored to discover that they supported the back of my foot/heel in a way that I've never experienced before. They are absolutely magical for my feet - I've never felt safer or better about my ankles or gait hiking before (even on rough terrain and in the snow for 5+ hours), and these are definitely a keeper. I am seriously contemplating buying several pairs to have for the next few years!

Excellent fit, comfortable since the first hike, backpacked and snowshoed with these babies last weekend and they kept me warm!

These are the first pair of hiking boots I have ever worn/owned, and they are fantastic, even if I'm still breaking them in! I wear an 8.5 and I have THICK ankles. (I am a very round girl.) I was so happy to find boots that fit around my tree trunk legs without leaving a gap on either side of the tongue, as that was my number one concern when shopping for hiking boots that go up the ankle. I also have wide feet, and the toe box fits all my toesies nice and snug-- not tight at all. No slipping and sliding around! They are true to size and have great ankle support. I wear mine with thick wool socks. I did change out the insoles for ones with better arch support (which made a world of difference in how my feet sat in them, keeping my heels where they belong in the heel cup, and my arches nice and supported). I bought the Oboz O Fit Insoles in size 8.5-9.5 and trimmed them down by about a quarter of an inch and they fit in like a dream. I definitely recommend these shoes, especially for thick-legged girls like me!

There are not many products that compel me to write a review, these boots have earned a spot! I took an epic hiking trip to summit Pikes Peak a few weeks ago (mid December) and needed an insulated winter hiking boot, after much deliberation I settled on these… let me tell you I’m so glad I did! They were comfortable from the start and most importantly they are actually as warm as they advertise!!! I paired them with a pair of wool socks and sock liners and my feet never got cold even when we were above the tree line on a day with 80+ mph winds and an average temperature (with the wind chill) of -30/-40. BUY THESE BOOTS!!!!

I’ve worn these about a dozen times. I’ve found them to be very warm, waterproof, and comfortable. I had read the reviews about the laces getting caught on the opposite shoe’s hooks, so I’ve been keeping them tucked in. Unfortunately, today one got untucked, caught on the hook, and down I went. Really not good, especially since I’m pregnant. I suppose this issue would be fine for someone who wears gaiters or longer pants to pull over the hooks, but I don’t. I’ve also found that they don’t have much grip in slippery winter situations on oftentimes had to use traction devices with them even when others didn’t with their boots.

I normally try on multiple boots before I buy, but these had overwhelmingly good reviews, and I had a coupon, so I gave it a shot. Arrived on time. Fit perfectly. Didn't need to be broken in. Comfortable right away, except with the higher ankle support than my regular boots, when I'm sitting, the top cuts in a bit on my leg. I don't sit much when wearing them, so not a big problem. They seem plenty warm, but haven't tried them in freezing/snow climate yet. Definitely would be too warm to wear in summer, but they are winter boots. ;-) Probably have less than 25 miles in them so far.

I bought these boots to use in the winter for hiking and snowshoeing. I've had several pairs of Merrell summer hiking boots that I've loved, so I figured this should be a pretty straightforward purchase. Sizing and general comfort was perfect. However, when I took them out for the first time, I noticed a specific part of the tongue on the right boot was digging into my leg with each step and quickly became very painful. I tried messing around with the fold of the tongue, which did seem to be slightly different than it was on the left boot, but to no avail. There was no way this was going to work, so I had to return them. My store had another pair in my size that I tried on in the store, and that pair had the same issue. Hopefully other people don't have this issue, it is otherwise a great boot.

I was originally going to return these boots because they didn't have enough insulation for what I needed them for (a lot of standing in cold), but they were so comfy and a good price that I decided to keep them. I've taken them on numerous long day hikes in the Cascades in snow (and not) and they are the comfiest boots I've ever worn. I hike for my job and I could wear these every day. They are warm enough if you're gonna be moving the whole time you're wearing them.

These boots are really warm and very comfortable. I have high arches and there’s tons of arch support. The ankles have good support too. The deep ridges are great for gripping in deeper snow. I wore them snowshoeing and my feet stayed warm and dry the whole time. The 2 reasons I didn’t give them 5 stars is because 1) they are a little slippery when In snow less than an inch deep. I was sliding around walking through a parking lot and almost wiped out on some ice. It’s not bad enough to get rid of them but something to consider. 2) the laces are really long and kinda slippery. I double knotted them to keep from untying but they slip out of the lace holder on the ankle occasionally. I’ll probably just switch out the laces altogether. All said and done these are going to be pretty good winter hiking boots for this Utah gal!
