I purchased two pairs last year for my ski racing boys. They wore them at least 30 times over the season and have been their favorite gloves over the years. They kept their hands warm and dry on even cold, wet and windy days. That being said, my then 10 year old managed to destroy the waterproof grippy palm. The 12 year old didn’t have that problem, but he was skiing more and digging in the snow less. I purchased them some nice leather Mtn Hardware gloves for this year and my now 13 year old is still grabbing these so I’m buying more this year. That should give you an idea of how much they preferred them.

great product, be cautious of size chart

I measured my child’s hand. According to size chart should be a large. You could put both of her hands in it at same time. Be cautious of size chart. This is probably 4th REI brand clothing article that is too big. Frustrated I will pay return shipping cause REI products are way too big. Will not buy anymore REI brand clothing.

Not Waterproof

Agree with other reviewers. These are a good design but they are *not* waterproof. If you know kids, they like playing in the snow. They get soaking wet to the point where it's hard to dry them for the next day and they are NOT warm. My kid complained about this and hates them for snowboarding. He will wear them to scool. I would say these are for older kids, not the 12 and under set if they will be skiing/snowboarding and/or playing in snow. If you need school gloves, these are fine. One wrist band strap that keeps them from losing their gloves also broke off.

My son's favorite gloves

These are the only gloves my son will wear, they are very warm in cold, windy, wet conditions. I'm purchasing a second pair in case he loses one. They do run a little big.

Comfortable but not waterproof.

Just came back from a few days on the snow. All two times my sons gloves were wet afterwards. One time during snow play and once skiing all day. The rest of the trip we changed glooves. I consider scotchgarding them as I've been looking for lobstermittens but I think I'll just try to return them if they let me.

very warm, good grip

these gloves are suited for colder temperatures. Once the day got warmer, my son needed to switch to lighter gloves. Wearing them the first time wasn't easy, until my son figured out the trick: you have to get your index finger in, then everything else falls into place.

Great winter glove

Keeps kiddo's hands toasty while enabling some grasping for playground play and skiing. Wish they made an XL but I suppose we'll have to move into the adult sizes for my 11 year old.

The perfect mitten!

These mittens are amazing. We live in a very cold snowy climate and my son never complains about cold hands. Plus the strap is genius. I want one for my adult mittens! It's perfect when we are skiing and need to take a mitten off to blow a nose, eat a snack, or any of the other million reasons kids take off their stuff. Now that we have tried them I am buying a pair for everyone in our house.

Not waterproof; not for snowboarders

I love the style of these - part glove, part mitten. However, for my 10-yr-old snowboarder, these were always soaked after 2-3 hours. Maybe snowboarders spend a lot more time sitting in and touching the snow.
