Backpacking? No. Car camping? Definitely!

I can't say I would have carried this much weight when I was backpacking, but as a camper who likes to keep the bulk in the truck down to a minimum, this cot is a perfect fit for me - especially when I wanted a cot for two person tents. There are ultra light cots that break down somewhat smaller than this one, but the Ready Lite feels a lot sturdier. Topped with a Therm-a-Rest Luxury Map pad I'm as comfortable as I've ever been on a camping trip. No doubt people researching cots like this will read reviews saying they're hard to assemble. Yes, it takes a bit of effort to pull the legs into place, but that's just the nature of the beast with these types of cots. It's the tension that keeps you off the ground. But if I can do it without breaking a sweat, just about anyone should be able to. 60 years old, 170 haven't-worked-out-since-high-school pounds, back problems... and, from the moment I unzip the carrier, it takes me less than 10 minutes to set it up. Bottom line: A well constructed piece of gear that's comfortable and readily portable. Highly recommended

Comfortable Cot- But Staticy!
Usually Easy to Please
The first cot I received from REI had two of five leg pieces malformed- they were an inch too short between the rails. Returned it (no prob), got another. Mastered putting it together- the trick is to put the side rails in, stand it on its side, and insert the first leg in the middle. Then work out to the ends... the ends are the most difficult to pop legs into. My biggest issue is that the synthetic cot material generates a ton of static charge when you roll on it. I tried bare skin, I tried wearing clothes... it just gives you a zap after you give it a little friction. RH in my house was 44%, so it's not like it was dry when I tried it. It is a very comfortable cot, but the zap action may be a deal breaker... still evaluating. I guess it would be an assist in waking up in the morning.

Excellent product with caveat

Well-made and engineered. Putting together does take a bit of strength and agility. After a few uses it becomes second nature. The cot is very supportive and comfortable. I appreciate the wider platform, as I am a side sleeper. The carry pouch is perfect for keeping the parts organized and it is of substantial quality. The whole package is reasonable weight and dimension. Not extra light, but does well for bicycle camping. The caveat is that the leg contact points do rub on the tent floor and depending on the subsurface can actually put holes through the fabric and even the footprint. I made small booties from pipe insulation for each contact point and that seems to help.

Great cot

I bought this for my daughter, and 2 Helinox Lite Cots for myself and my husband. The ALPS Mountaineering cot is heavier than Helinox by 2 lbs, so if you want the lightest thing possible then this might matter to you. I prefer the set up for the ALPS Mountaineering cot. I have pinched myself while putting together the Helinox and it HURT. Despite having similar structures, the ALPS cot does not have a pinch risk because of the way you grip the leg while putting it together. I appreciate that about it. All together, it's a great cot and I would buy more if we needed them.

Weighs more than stated but overall it will do!

I put this on a scale and it weighed in at 5lbs 3oz out of the box without the tags attached.and in the bag. Perhaps the weight listed is without the bag? It is definitely hard to assemble. You have to flex the legs a fair amount to get the feet in position to attach. I also noted that installing the side poles was a bit odd. You must slip them in an opening near the end but not at the end, rather on the side of the seam and use the loop to "pull/stretch" the fabric so it seats. It's a tight fit in a small tent. My tent is for two but there is no way that is the case with this inside. I do think it will be comfortable to sleep on and will increase the restfulness of my campout sleeping! I think it is definitely solidly built and will last. I will revise my post after my first use.

So far so good.

I bought this to replace my old cot because it was supposed to be wider, which it is, and higher, which it is not. It is claimed to be 7.5 inches in height but it's more like 6.5. I thought it was quick and easy to assemble without viewing any video instructions. My wider Thermarest fits great and laying on it feels nice. Hopefully it will hold up, I'll update this post if it doesn't.

Backpacking cot

This was a gift for my husband who goes on backpacking trips. He specifically asked for this since he’s read/heard a lot of great things from backpacker who have camped in places like the Pacific Trail where weight is a concern. He was very happy and looks forward to many years of use!

Kayak camping upgrade!

This cot made a world of a difference for me sleeping on the ground. WOW, am I happy! It packs up small, easy to assemble, and will give you extra hours of painless sleep if you're the type to get sore hips and shoulders with just a thermarest on the ground. I put the mattress on the cot and ... la-la land. Enjoy!

Lightweight. Treat it like it.

Nice and compact. Poles bent after second night with a weight of 130lbs on a flat surface (was test driving in my basement). So, do be careful with this particular unicorn.
