Great with weak anchors
We have an SUV and the problem here was that the anchors, used to secure the hammock to the rear bench, are not re-enforced and did not fit straight into the seat. What happened was that these anchors were angled and then tore when the dog pounced into the car. After they tore we tried this in a friend's 2020 RAV4 and they fit correctly. Just be aware of that. Otherwise really a great mat. The pocket for gear and storage is okay. Not a huge fan. Despite the defect/design flaw, I'd get a second one if needed. Hope this will be enhanced in a future version. At this price... I'd expect that.
Best one I found
I looked at several options online. Always prefer to get something like this from REI in case or straps tearing from normal use. We use two kurgo harness/seatbelt leashes for our two pups so wanted one with cutouts. Very impressed with this cover so far. Fits perfect in the back of our SUV. Durable quality material. I was worried about the small metal rivets on the bottom of the cover based on another review so for peace of mind I covered them with small squares of black gorilla tape. Adheres great and should last for years!
Brass snaps scratch plastic
Very disappointed that as I was installing this I discovered that the brass snaps will very easily scratch the plastic on the interior of the car. We bought this with the intention of protecting the interior, not scratching it. It seems like it would have been easy for Ruffwear to have stitched a piece of cloth over them.
Good, not great seat cover
We bought for the hammock configuration to keep our elderly hiking buddy from falling into the footwells when we braked to slowed suddenly. It's definitely sturdy and easy to install, and it has worked as intended. However it is VERY noisy and not at all absorbent - so much so I've folded up the old microfiber seat cover so he doesn't make a racket moving around. And the cleats are too flimsy to hold the cover in place. Unless you're using it hammock-style and secured front and back to the headrests, it's going to slid all over. Whether I'd recommend it to anyone would really depend on how they want to use it.
Sturdy but noise may be an issue
This thing seems quite tough, durable, and well-made. I have two quibbles, one minor and one, depending on your dog or your disposition, maybe a bit more of a concern. One: this is just BARELY big enough for a full-sized '18 Chevy. It works, but with no room to spare. Two: if you have a dog or dogs that will load up and then stay put, this next thing won't bother you. But if your dog, like mine, paces and stomps around every mile of every trip, the fact that the cover's fabric is quite noisy may get on your nerves. It's quite crinkly/crackly. Other than those issues, very nice product.
It’s fine, but better ones exist
This seat cover did fine in my full size sedan with bench-style rear seats, but later when I bought a car that was more narrow and had rear seats with side bolsters, it didn’t fit well anymore and wouldn’t stay in place. Other dislikes I had were the smooth surface of the cover (poor pups kept sliding around and didn’t seem comfortable), and the lack of coverage for the doors, which I didn’t realize was a feature I would want. I ended up replacing it with Scouts Mobile Mud Room from Duluth Trading co, and I prefer it much more.
Great Seat Cover
Having gone through many many less expensive seat covers through years and years of having 60+lb dogs in my opinion this is a great seat cover for the following reasons: It's large- the length is 63" which means it gives your pet lots of room to lay down ..... especially if you pad the area behind the front seats and put this on top AND and still covers all of face of the back seats and all of the back of the front seat. It's tough--- dogs nails to not go through it. It's high behind the front seat so that your dog cannot get into the front seat. It's wide and has flaps so that pet hair does not get on the floor. We love this seat cover and we have gone through at least 10 others. This one will be around for a long time, it's that well made.
Room for Improvement
We got this backseat cover to protect our car when the dog is dirty, but there are some drawbacks in the design that could use improvement. First, the material is easy to clean, but this makes it very slippery. My dog does not sit still during car rides and slides around a lot with this cover on the seats. Plus, the cover itself slips around a lot. Because my dog doesn't sit still for car rides, she wears the Ruffwear safety harness. Although the cover is designed to allow use of the seat belts, using the harness still tends to mess up the position of the cover. Second, the material is not very breathable so the dog doesn't get good air flow if you have the harness in the sling mode (attached to headrests of front seats), yet this is the position that best protects the floors. Lastly, other brands allow you to split the cover on one side so that a passenger can still ride in the backseat when the cover is in the sling mode. This one does not. Makes it hard if you need to pack additional stuff or people in your backseat.
Great Seat Cover
This seat cover is great. The only thing more I could wish for is a little bit extra coverage on the sides and maybe some head rest covers. In my Subaru Crosstrek the seat cover doesn't quite cover the sides so I still get a lot of dog hair there and with my big dog she can still get hair all over the head rests. The cover has held up to the claws and hasn't ripped and has been great to protect my seats against my muddy/wet dog. Overall I think the seat cover is great, better than anything else I've bought for seat covers for my dog, and I would recommend it to others.
Too Small and Quality was Lacking.
I have a Ford truck and this doesn't begin to cover the seat. What's more, I was a little disappointed with the quality. The snaps and straps were good, but I've had other less expensive hammocks that I bought off of Amazon that were thicker and had more padding. I think RuffWear needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. Better quality and maybe offer two different sizes. One for cars and one for trucks/SUVs.
