This tent's been everywhere

I've had the tent for three years, and now I think it's time to write a quick review. Pros: -Light-ish, but still something you want to split between another hiker if you're doing multi-day hiking. -Super, super waterproof fly. This thing has held up in all-night downpours. -The fly vestibules in front of the doors are clutch for keeping gear dry under your fly (or drying out wet gear) -True three-season tent. I've used this in the desert, mountains, shore, rain forest, at altitude, etc. The fly does a fantastic job at blocking out wind/rain/cold. -Easy setup and breakdown (there are four poles). I can do it with my eyes closed by now. It's important if I have to set up camp in the dark by headlamp or break camp in the dark. -The yellow is great for visibility, unless you don't want to be seen. Cons: -Sadly, the seams around the zippers are starting to fray pretty badly, which makes it hard to zipper sometimes. -You probably want to go out and get better stakes. -If you don't use a footprint, it doesn't dry very quickly. -Some of the fly loops are fraying badly, making it hard to stake them down. Again, after hundreds of uses, it's held up really well. Worth the money.

Broken pole

I used the tent twice and one of the end parts of my pole broke. Contacted rei who sent me to tent pole support who quoted me $95+shipping to replace the poles. Not satisfied since I’m only needing one piece of the entire pole and not a whole new set.

TNF has outdone itself on this redesign!

I had the previous edition of this tent it was all around great, besides the issue with the fly leaking into the tent when opening it. This model has fixed this issue and and has made a number of enhancements that make this tent a no brainer for its price point. You can make an awning with trekking poles with support from the guy lines that have been intelligently repositioned (both vestibules). The cross poles that are still in this design seat into the fly like when you are pegging out. Not to mention the small velcro wraps on for corners that make this tent literally bomb proof if need be. Also the new doors are huge and stow away in the mesh pocket so much room to get in and out. Depending where you are winter camping l this and the previous version are 4 season if you set it up right and are being responsible, well equipped. I might be blown away but this tent won't be... One small problem is the tent pegs are heavy and not good, given all the above, minor detail. I bought some lighter MSR pegs, no biggie. Would recommend bringing 10-12 pegs for using those awesome awnings! Thanks TNF! Still discovering the thought that went into this redesign.

Perfect

I bought this tent more than a year ago. I finally dug it out of the closet and took it on backpacking trip to CO. I had no expectations. It was easy to put up even as a single hiker but more impressively it folded up perfectly every time. It was easy to get back in the bag. I also experienced what seemed like Gail force winds and it stood and endured. It was easy to pack. Love it!! Can’t wait to take it out again!

Tough Enough for Thundersnow

I don't usually write reviews, but I'm compelled. I took this out for two nights in Rocky Mountain National Park, and it snowed (with thunder!) both nights. We got 4-6 inches each night and not a drop of moisture entered the tent. It wasn't too windy, but we felt protected when the wind did blow. Other than that, there's plentiful pockets and the loop at the apex was super useful for hanging a small lantern. This comfortably fit two adult males, each about 5 ft 10 in and 170 lbs. We had to leave our packs and boots in the vestibules, but those stayed dry too!!! In all, the tent exceeds expectations by far. Our other friends' tents leaked!

This tent is the literal definition of waterproof.

It was '18 NYE on the SoCal coast. Winds were sustained 30-40mph with gusts around 80mph. My girlfriend and I pitched the tent in the sandy bluff campground just a few meters from the beach. When we were came back from a short walk down the beach, we returned to find our tent had vanished. Since it was dark, and we both were a few beers deep, we thought for a second we had returned to the wrong campsite. Indeed we hadn't, and our tent, with all of our belongings inside of it, had been blown away. We looked around, and spotted a yellow and grey lump 200 yards down the beach floating about 4 meters off the shore in the Pacific Ocean. Relieved, yet horrified, we ran into the wind to retrieve our stuff. As I waded out, watching wave after wave break on top of my tent and everything inside, I couldn't believe this was happening. Once I drug the tent back on shore and began to unfold it, I discovered that the rain fly had acted as a balloon and protected the insides. We sure got lucky in the way the tent folded around itself allowing the rainfly to do it's job, but for the tent to roll like a tumbleweed over a rocky coast and then be battered by waves and still perform is beyond me. Both sleeping bags, two phones, one camera, a backpack, and two pairs of shoes were kept almost completely dry. Damage sustained by the tent was minimal: a few small rips, some pin holes, and both tent poles were bent. I still use the tent in an un-repaired state (being broke sucks!) in all conditions, with zero complaints. This tent is an engineering marvel, a performer and protector, in every way supreme. Thanks TNF!

First trip out and it rained, setup in rain.

So I have seen mixed reviews and so glad I trusted the good ones. First trip using it, it poured on us on our hike and I set this baby up and covered it with the rain fly in something like 4 min. I took a deep breath and then steaked it out(at that point i didnt care if I was wet cause i had dry cloths.) just didn't want it raining in through the mesh. After I staked everything there was condensation on the floor. used my semi wet t-shirt to dry it up and bang. dry the rest of the camp. After the storm passed it got windy and dropped to the 40's. In my sleeping bag I slept in my underwear and a t-shirt. no breeze and considerably warmer in the tent. Its stable and dry. if it were hot i could open up the fly on both sides no problem. two people might be tight of your significant other wants to casually camp but this thing is fantastic for one person with some room.

The Best Budget Tent

Took this bad boy on a 150 mile section of the AT and would take it again in a heartbeat. at least 4-5 days of my trek involved torrential rain and the Stormbreak 2 definitely lived up to its name. Not a single drop of water got in the tent. The setup is easy and I certainly appreciated the tent's ample headroom. It is a tad heavy, but I tend to pack on the heavy side so it didn't bother me too much. It's also surprisingly pleasing aesthetically; the orange pairs nicely with the setting sun. I found the Stormbreak 2 ran a little hot on the inside, but summertime in NC is hot and extremely humid so others may not experience this.

Perfect Tent!

This tent is AMAZING! Easy to set up, roomy enough for two people to have their boots/clothes near their feet. The best feature, by far, was having a vestibule (zippered entry/exit) on BOTH sides of the tent. I shared with a friend and we didn't have to climb all over each other to get in and out during the night. I love this tent! Very lightweight and easy to set up and take down. I didn't have to stake the rain fly out, just tossed it over the tent to keep warmth in.

Palatial tent for solo backpacking

This tent feels super spacious! Great headroom, and TWO vestibules. I took this tent on a recent solo overnight and it was great. The only complaint I have is the stakes- they are tiny and too smooth to be of any actual service for holding out the fly. But I expect that from tents anymore. Take your fave stakes. The color is bright and cheery, it was super easy to set up. I appreciated having only a printed pic of the tent on the bag instead of having to keep track of a printed diagram. Lots of pockets inside, lantern loop.

Easy and waterproof!

On this tent’s first camping trip it rained with a little thunderstorm action, and no water got in at all. Because we were on a slight slope, some water tracked underneath between the floor of the tent and the tarp, but it didn’t seep through – though it may have seeped very slightly, but I won’t knock a star for it. Very easy to pitch and take down, the easiest I’ve experienced so far! Lots of handy loops inside to hook things on and two nice mesh pockets sewn onto the walls where your head would be.

The perfect tent!

I’ve stayed in this tent now in a wide variety of situations. Atop mountains in snow storms, to in a rain soaked valley. I’m absolutely sold on this tent. It will fit me (6’6) my girlfriend and our dog. Great mid point of durability and weight. Goes up in just a couple minutes!
