problem with sizing?
Love Birkenstock EVA sandals! Pros? They are light, comfortable, easy to clean, relatively inexpensive, and come in lots of neat colors. Cons are few: the sandals only last one or two seasons and eventually need to be replaced. However, I recently bought a pair (online, without trying them on) that were stamped size 40 but were clearly a larger size. I compared them to a previously purchased size 40--there was a three-quarter inch difference in the length. So buyer beware, particularly if you assume you know your size and purchase online.
Very comfortable but not long lasting..
These are not your durable Birks. Bought a pair and used indoors ONLY and they are starting to break!! Very comfortable but not made of high quality materials as the traditional ones.
Not Bad
I've been searching for a lighter-weight alternative to the Croc sandals that have faithfully served me for many years. I stumbled upon these Birkenstocks at REI. Although I went to college during the cultural revolution of the 1970s, I'm not a Birkenstock kind of guy. Despite this, I went ahead and purchased them anyway. I ordered a size medium in brown. I was pleasantly surprised that a pair of medium Birkenstocks weigh in at 8.8 ounces (249 g) on my scale versus 13.8 ounces (390 g) for my Crocs; almost a 40% weight difference. The Birkenstocks weight compares favorably to some sandals describing themselves as ultralight but which are heavier or less robust in their construction than the Birkenstocks. Now, to be totally "open kimono" in this review, the material used in the construction of the Birkenstocks is harder and more rigid than that used in the manufacture of my Crocs and I find them to be slightly less comfortable. With that said, however, I can go with a little less comfort in exchange for a 40% reduction in weight. Now all I need to compliment my Birkenstocks is a nice tie-dyed hoodie, a few Grateful Dead tunes, and a hand full of granola bars.
Light weight, comfortable
I bought this pair of sandals for the activities in waterparks/beaches. I like the sandals since those are light weight and comfortable to wear. One pity is that the printed information on the right sandal was getting disappeared / worn after usage twice only although the left sandal is still fine.
amazing sandals
Bought these elsewhere but have found them indispensable for everything from slipping on to run the trash to the curb to being my non-boot footwear backpacking through Big Bend NP. They are crazy light- can strap them to the back of your pack and they add no weight. They’re all rubber- so they’re impervious to water. I’ve worn mine for 18 months with no discernible wear - not long days but all over the place for an hour or two at a time. Feel absolutely great after a long day on your feet hiking or whatever.
Comfortable slip on sandals
I usually wear size 11.5 shoes - I purchased size 44 EU which is 11 US, fits me perfectly. They seem to run about a half size larger. so if you wear size 10.5 shoes get size 10 Birkenstock. Initially, they felt strange as if I was standing on a stone in the arch of my foot, especially while wearing socks but I got used to them after a week or two and now I find them incredibly comfortable. Side note they make the squeaky noise on certain surfaces while walking if you get the sole of shoe wet.
Delivers how it looks
These aren't the most fashionable pieces in my opinion but I bought a pair to use primarily at water crossings and as camp shoes beginning with the 2021 season. I normally wear a size US men's 11 and the best size for me was the 42 which they say correlates with a US men's 9. The sandals can be fastened with the two bands however I feel once you get it set you wont want to adjust it often as the material seems thinner on the bands. My initial impression that if/when this product were to fail this is the area where it would occur. What worked best for me was putting them on and getting the straps tight then removing and adjusting each strap one notch lower and that gave the best/snuggest fit. At this time it is unknown how these will fair as water crossing shoes with fast moving water but I intend to find out come May here in the PNW. As far as camp shoes these will be a delight and per my cheapo scale my pair of size 42s weigh in at 243g.
Seriously, buy them now
These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. They support your feet/arches perfectly, weigh nearly nothing, are waterproof and stay on your feet remarkably well for a slide.
Two big toes up!
I have been a Birk-aphile for four decades and have owned three dozen+ pairs including some of the $$$, limited runs. For those skeptical of the low price, low-end material version presented here, I will echo that these are superb for comfort and low-weight and wear-resistance and flexibility in application (from beach to posh locale). Buying another pair as a core item to include in all travel packing as a non-hiking shoe.
4 years and still decent
I was so excited to see REI sell these. I've had my green pair for 4 years and even though they are worn, they are as comfy as an old shoe. I remember them running larger so get size smaller. They are great in places where you may get summer downpours. Just so you all know, the material forms to your foot so give it some time. My only regret is I love the green and they were sold out so black it is.
