Had to size up from size chart
I love these shorts. Very well made, nice drying material and super cute pattern. Based on the size chart, I ordered a size small. The small was a bit uncomfortable as it rode up and didn't allow me to squat down comfortably. There is no stretch in the material and I wanted a looser fit. I returned for a medium and I am pleased with them. In the pictures, it says the model has a 25'' waist and is wearing a size medium, when the size chart puts a 25'' waist in a size XS.... Not sure if the size chart is inaccurate or the model's measurements are. Great shorts but I say size up if you want them to fit like the picture.
Perfect Adventure and Everyday Shorts!!
I love these shorts because I have used it for hiking, camping, Kayaking, working out, and travel.. They are easy to wear, fabric is durable, 3 pockets are handy for gear, I love the side slits on the legs, and it's super comfy! I am also GLAD that these shorts are not lined because I can wear my bikinis or Nike Pro Compression shorts underneath. In the Baggies Shorts I am an XS, because it is a Relaxed Fit. I read that these shorts were Slim Fit and went up a size. The size small fit perfect and it doesn't look big or sloppy on me. I love how these shorts have DWR and it dries fast! I am a happy camper! :) I am 5', 106lbs, athletic build, usually wear an XS, waist 25.5.
Hard to Find Great Shorts
I am 5’4” and it can be really difficult to find a good pair of hiking shorts that aren’t too long on me. I thought the sizing was accurate. I normally wear a medium so I ordered these shorts in a medium and they fit me quite nicely. For reference, I am about 140 lbs and carry a little extra weight around my midsection. The shorts were comfortable around the waist and were not at all tight on my thighs. I love the fabric and the print (blue/pollen confetti) and the fact that it is quick drying. My only complaint would be that I wish the pockets were a little bigger or had a zipper to keep my phone from falling out.
I wanted to like these, but...
These are such cute shorts in principle, but somehow managed to be simultaneously too baggy and too tight. I have a curvy built with a big butt and big thighs (cycling/running). I found that these fit my butt fine, but left a weird pooch of fabric in the front that got worse with movement. Because of the short inseam and the way the leg openings were cut, the leg openings tended to fold up a bit at the top of my thigh during frequent movement, and somehow felt restrictive even though they weren't tight. I would echo others that a liner would be nice for these, and that they are well made and very cute shorts. Unfortunately, these will be returned.
Better Waistband than Regular Baggies
Love the waistband on these so much more than the regular baggies shorts. I ordered the southwest print and the red floral print. High quality, made well, flattering for "outdoorsy" shorts, and pockets!! Unfortunately, I saw so many reviews that said they ran super small and decided to order a size up. I didn't find that they ran small at all and they were so big they would have never stayed up. If anything, I think they run a little on the larger size. I will return and reorder in my normal size, which should still be a pretty relaxed fit, because I think they're really cute and flattering shorts.
Comfiest shorts
Love these shorts! Listening to the reviews, I sized up, but I think I could've ordered my usual size without any hip/fit issues.. however, they're meant to be baggy (it's in the name lol) so I'm fine with how they fit :) because sizing stats help, I'm 5'10", 142lbs, 27" waist, and usually a 4-6 in jeans. I got these in a medium, but probably would've been fine with a small.
Just perfect for everything!
Bought the Mangove Tiki print in an XL. Had tried on the L (my size according to chart) but in reality needed to size up to XL for more length (I’m 5’9”). These shorts are the bomb! I love how easily they dry, they are very comfortable, hold up to rough use on the trail and water sports and can be easily thrown in the washer and dryer looking great for the next adventure. I would say if you are average weight but tall -size up for length. If you are not in good shape and average height -order up because the cut is for a more active body. If your trim with average height get your regular size. The ties on the inside and the elastic waist do make the waist area more forgiving but the material itself doesn’t stretch so if your backside or thighs are on the larger end go up a size. Hope that explains the sizing better. Anyway, love the funky colors for summer, just ordered a second pair in the Kalani Big pattern since I’m always grabbing these.
Wear Them All The Time
I ordered the XS and they fit perfectly. I am 5'5" and ~130 lbs. and I normally wear a medium in pants. But since Patagonia has weird sizing, after trying the medium and then smalls, I ended on the XS. I wear these shorts every single day. I absolutely love them. The pockets are perfect size and fit everything that I need (small wallet, phone, keys). I have the black so they go with pretty much anything I wear. Super easy to clean and feel so comfy. I cannot recommend these enough.

I just received these in the mail and they are beyond perfect. I bought them for backpacking. I am normally a medium 5'7 135 lbs. I don't like really baggie clothes even in the outdoors and I definitely don't like tight fitting clothes so I went with a small and they fit perfectly! I want them in every color!
Great for big butt/big thigh girls
Could literally live in these. I’ve worn them running, kayaking, swimming, hiking, sleeping, and even casually with a nice shirt. They dry quickly, have a drawstring waist, and have pockets that comfortably fit my iPhone 7.
