Layers? No thanks....this coat n a shirt please!
This jacket is unique that in a sense it's not a rain jacket nor is it heavy. It's quite light for its size and purpose. I've been using this jacket at both Lassen and Yosemite where the temperature gets down to low 30's sometimes but it rarely has any effect on me. Don't believe it...just wear a shirt, throw this thing on and go for a walk in the cold. It's that simple, although one thing that really stands out is the highly wind resistant fabric which is the key to your warmth. No winds means the heat is retain more inside the jacket thus keeping warm even when it's cold outside. The wind will be your biggest factor regardless of what you wear.

Great for camping except if you plan on washing it
This StretchDown jacket was the best jacket I’ve owned until I washed it. I went on a 3 day camping trip, the weather was an average 36 at night and upper 40. I only wore a flannel underneath and was warm the whole time. It was a totally different experience once I was home. I washed the jacket exactly how said on it’s tag and on mountain hardwear website. It did not make a difference because the down started to some out of every seam after I washed it. On the website it did say it could clump up after washing it but it clumped too much that massaging it did not help.

WARM, yet so lightweight it feels like NOTHING.

My old jacket was warm but it was so heavy it was actually hurting my back! This jacket is incredibly lightweight AND very warm. But on the 20° and colder days we’ve had (before windchill), I’ve been able to layer it (lightweight inner shell from my old, heavy, 3-in-1 jacket). It’s still incredibly light and as warm as I need it to be. I’m VERY HAPPY. ONLY complaint is that it doesn’t have the pockets my old jacket had (number, location and size).

RUNS very small

Runs very small. Size up. I am a six and a small would not fit a very light turtleneck (35 band size, 28 waist, and 37 hip) The quality of the coat is excellent. This coat seemed superior to other coats I ordered but it did not come in a medium. I gave it four stars due to the miss in sizing not for the quality of the coat. The coat's fabric is a matte finish. Not shiny at all. Conforms to body well. Seems quite warm.

beautiful jacket

This is a beautiful, well-fitting jacket..... if you don't plan to wear warm layers underneath. It has a feminine cut, so no room for a warm fleece layer. I will have to return it. Sigh.

Nice and Warm!

It’s been a cold winter here in Central NY but this jacket has kept me warm in below 0 temps. Feather light and a beautiful powder blue, I highly recommend it.

Fits great; beautiful color; excellent warmth

Blew out my old "puffy" last year, so bought this to replace it. I like that it has interior pockets and is not too large. When I want serious warmth, I wear my heavy-duty, longer length down. This is perfect for my photo hikes and active hikes (I'm anticipating snowshoeing), in which my heavy-duty would have me sweating. I like the fit, because it is not bulky. I am 5 ft 6 in, size 6-8, bought a medium and really like it. I wear Smartwool base layers, with which this is perfect.

Super warm

Fits so well and does the job! A bit hard to fold into its own pocjet6, but possible. The turquoise color is so pretty and quality is great

Great jacket

Very lightweight and super warm jacket. It lacks a hood but still a great jacket overall.
