Great Look, Durable, Lackluster Temperature
This has ALMOST everything I've come to expect from Yeti. Fantastic design, super durable. The problem is in the temperature, any Yeti cup I have more than lives up to their claims of keeping cold or hot for hours. But this mug doesn't, it's maybe mildly better than a standard mug, and nowhere near a cheap thermos. Just today, I got piping hot coffee, within 30 minutes it was still warm, but an hour later it was approaching lukewarm. Not sure where it went wrong in the design, but something isn't up to par. For maybe $15 or less, this would be a fantastic choice. But for the ultra premium $25 price for just a mug, either Yeti needs to improve something or you need to look elsewhere.
Hot Yeti Loving
My first Yeti product, largely because I have balked at the price of their offerings. Based on this mug, I’m sure they are worth it if you fit the use case. Anyway, this mug is awesome. I work for a coffee company so I own a plethora of mugs in many forms, but this one is my new fave. I have longed for a double wall stainless steel mug that has a large flat bottom that won’t tip over: winner winner chicken dinner!!! Yet nailed it. Keeps liquid Hot for hours and is easy to drink from. I also love the handle; it’s simple and just works. I may get another one for home and camping. Too heavy for backpacking, but I don’t think that’s the intended use case. But I would be tempted to take it on a short winter overnight trip when weight isn’t as concerning. Bravo Yeti!
Not so hot..
I used a laser thermometer on my new mug (which I am returning), tested the heat loss every hour, and was in disbelief of the very poor heat retention. Coffee will stay hot for about an hour. In an hour, the coffee is just warm. It tells me that the insulation is poor and the mass of the fluid when the cup is full, is keeping the fluid warm - not insulation . When fluid levels get low in the cup, there just isn't anything keeping the fluid hot. Having a hole in the lid for heat to escape is poor engineering. Yeti products I HAVE PURCHASED work far better at keeping fluids cold rather than hot. The half gallon jug is AWESOME at keeping fluids cold!!!!!!
Slight lid fitment issue, overall good product
If you can't finish a 14oz cup of coffee in 4 hours then I'm not sure why you are drinking coffee in the first place. This mug does just fine keeping my coffee hot for the reasonable amount of time it takes me to drink it. The only issue I have with it is the lid doesn't seem to fit perfectly. That could be the fact that it shares the lid with the 30oz. The same exact lid that perfectly fits my 30oz rambler, has trouble with the 14oz mug's opening. And I've never had to do anything special to the lid for it to fit the 30oz rambler.
Keeps a cup of coffe hot for some time.
I use this cup around the house and it works great. It keeps the content nice and hot for quite some time. I set up my Thermal Imaging camera as I was interested to see how good this cup retains the heat.
Not a premium product for the premium price
Love the heat and cold retention, the large volume sizing, and the stainless steel being so easy to clean up. The color coating got some nice compliments until the paint began chipping away in ever larger sections along the handle after less than a year. I have mostly hand washed this mug but occasionally run it through the dishwasher, on the top rack, standing free of other items. I do not wear jewelry so the only stressors for the coating are the friction of my thumb and the light dishwasher cycle. Not a premium product in this case.
Great at Keeping Tea or Coffee Hot
What this mug has going for it 1) It has a wide very flat bottom and a low profile. You'll have to work really hard to spill it. 2) It truly holds 14oz and maybe a teensy bit more. 3) Boy does it keep things hot. I fill it up for my morning tea with near boiling water. I rest (not insert) the lid across the top and then take my dog for a long walk. Upon return, 45 min to an hour later, I have to lift the lid off so it can cool down - it's still too hot to drink - Really. 4) I've had it about a month and, so far, the finish seems very durable. The only drawback to this mug is that you aren't going to be able to put it in a microwave if hours have gone by and you need to warm it up.
Great mug
I've been through a few mugs in my thirty-eight years and this one is by far my favorite. So far, everything I've drank (drinked? drunk?) out of it has tasted at least three percent better. Is that all in my head? For sure. But that doesn't matter. I like to put whiskey in there, with a bunch of ice cubes and some soda. The ice cubes make a little clanging noise each time I take a sip. Like a bell that rings in celebration. "I'm taking a drink!" says the bell. When it's empty, you can use it like a musical instrument. But I warn you, don't let it get empty or the devil will return!
Meets my (sort of specific) needs
I bought this mug to meet my specific, indoors-y needs: to fit under the weird coffee machine at work, and to keep my coffee hot for much longer than a regular mug is capable of doing. I don't think I drink my beverages particularly slowly, yet before this mug I was pretty dissatisfied with how quickly my drinks became lukewarm. I do believe this mug does a great job of improving my drinking experience, and an added bonus is that for me it's much more pleasant to drink out of a mug (that has a handle) versus a handle-less tumbler or travel mug. It just feels cozier to me.
Makes Coffee taste better!
This works so great with my morning coffee that I took it with me on my Alaska vacation I'm sure the trip was even better with hot coffee that didn't spill! Here it is at the lodge in Denali!
