I have had a few different brands of rain jackets and this by far has the nicest, softest fabric. I love that it is still comfortable enough to wear over a tank top when running/biking without it sweating or scraping against my skin. The fit is a bit small. It is very narrow at my hips (i'm usually a size medium - size 8 women's in most clothing) but I would go up in size to a large for this jacket. I could fit a fleece under it for cooler temps/hiking, but it was a tight fit. Definitely order up - other than that this is a sure win.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my new go-to travel jacket. It's pretty lightweight for a rain jacket and easily packs up for travel. I took it on a hike in Norway with me and got caught in rain and hail and it held up great and kept me dry. I also recently took it to India in Monsoon season. The fabric is soft and pliable, but still waterproof - that's what I love about it. I can also just wear it for a regular jacket for wind protection and a bit of warmth. The zips under the arms are great for ventilation when hiking too. I only wish it had an inside pocket for a phone or something - else I love it!
Initial Observations - Oceanic (blue shade) is an awesome color! - The pit zips are 6" shorter than my Marmot Precip pit zips. - There is more fabric shielding the face & neck than with the Precip (huge plus!). - No internal soft fleece near neck/face. - Able to cinch hood snug. - I am 5'2", 102 lbs and ordered a Women's Sz S. It was the perfect size for layering. - Unable to roll & stow hood. - No internal pockets. Performance - Worn at elevations from 6600' - 8750'. Temps were mid 30s - mid 40s F. Winds were up to 20 mph. - The jacket warms quickly! (Get ready to open the air vents!) - The positioning of the front pockets allow air flow to the core musculature which allows for quick cooling. - The pit zips were tricky to reach, as I often found them directly inline/underneath my pack straps. - The adjustable cuffs are great! (If cinched tight, airflow is eliminated.) - The jacket significantly cuts wind impact. - Easy on/off, packs small, lightweight for carrying. Overall Impression - Marmot never fails to impress with their high quality rain gear. There are a couple quirky design issues (see above), but they are not significant enough to deter me from purchasing/wearing.
Fits well! I wear medium tops, but typically large jackets. I ordered a large In this and though I won’t have much room in the colder months to be really bundled under it (with the rain jacket zipped) a pullover will be perfect! I love the pull tab on the back of the hood so I can easily adjust it and keep the hood from being in my face. The Velcro cuffs on the sleeves are very handy as well since I have short arms! But my favorite part is probably the pit zips! I live in the south & I get hit & sweat easily especially with our humidity! So having the extra “breathing room” is a MAJOR plus for me!!
I have only used this in a light drizzle so far, so the review is limited. The color is true to what I saw on the screen. The jack feels durable and quality. It has a stiffness that I find the better raincoats offer. The zippers are functional and work smoothly, especially on the armpit vents. I like the brim on the hood and find it stays up easily. The jack was packable when I went on a recent trip. I do wish it had snaps or velcro of some kind so I could close it partially in lighter weather. Perhaps I have a shorter waist, but I do feel that the jacket is long and rather tight on the hips. This is also why I'd like it to have snaps or something that allows partial closure.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought Eclipse in purple L, and am 5' 5'' about 150 lbs -- with hips! I neglected to notice that it is the athletic cut (more slim than others) -- honestly I chose which style by the color, assuming all would do a good job keeping me dry based on researching rain gear. Loved it, except for the fit around the bottom which was too snug for my mom-section. I go between med & large in most jackets, and definitely tend to buy rain jackets so I can wear over other layers (often need to wear in COLD and wet) -- returned it for an XL, which I'm hoping won't be huge. Haven't tried it in the rain yet.
The Marmot Eclipse is a great all-around, multi-season rain cover. I find it easy to wear, easy to move in, and breathable (great pit vents!). It provides ample room for layering--if it is cold I can wear it under a fleece and the hood is roomy enough to wear over a winter hat. One thing I noticed different from other rain jackets I've owned - I never get the edge of the jacket material caught in the zipper when zipping up - how the heck does that not happen?! It keeps me dry in the rain and is a great wind breaker. It's nice and lightweight, good for backpacking or any kind of travel when you need easy-to-pack, dependable rain gear. Bonus - I didn't know this until I got the jacket in the mail and read the label - the material is eco-friendly. Definitely recommend.
I purchased this shell primarily to use while ice climbing and mountaineering... of course, the weather turned as soon as it arrived, so I’ll have to wait until next year to test it out in ice conditions. I’ve worn this jacket a few times so far in blustery rain and it’s worked out great! Keeps me dry, breathable, does the job. I expect it’ll work super well with a layer or two underneath once the cold weather rolls around next year! Love the harness-compatible pockets, and the hood definitely fits very well over a rock helmet. I’d recommend sizing a bit up if you’re looking to fit a few layers underneath, as the jacket actually was a bit more slim-fitting than expected. Height: 5’4” Weight: 135 Size purchased: M
Can't wait to wear this jacket in a downpour and in warmer weather. Testing in Indiana light rain showers and cool temps 34-50 degrees. It seems to have all the right features. The fit is just right for me (M) and I love the athletic fit. Pockets are placed higher (this is great when wearing a backpack as you can still access the pockets without any hipbelt interference. Pit vents work fine - opening the pockets also creates another vent. All zippers solid - not cheapsy. Cinch hood is great and functional; I only had modest (not severe) winds one dreary day, but cinching the hood worked to help keep cool air out and drizzle off head. Comfortable with no pack, light pack, and modest pack (15 lbs). Kept me dry.The only drawback I might note, is that it does seem to "run cool", so I had to layer properly underneath to feel totally comfortable at about 30-38 degrees (when not at a vigorous effort); of course at 50-70 degrees and rain, the same "run cool" effect may be welcome - I can't wait to find out. Seems like a jacket with some real durability; and I can't wait to get it soaked.
Love the fabric on this jacket. Softer and more pliable without the crinkle of most rain jackets. Unfortunately we are in a drought so I haven’t tested the water proofing yet, but took it on the slopes and some chilly morning trail runs. It worked great as a wind barrier!
