Sizing help
After reading all of the reviews about sizing, I wanted to chime in with more specifics. I have a 32" actual waist size, which means with modern-day vanity sizing, I wear a size 30 in most brands. With these board shorts, the 32" was too big, the 30" fit snug, and the 31" fit perfectly. You need to buy direct from patagonia to get the odd-numbered waist sizes. So I'd recommend sizing halfway between your actual waist size and the labeled size you tend to wear.

REI = why stop carrying odd sizes?
The 30/32/34/36 doesnt work for this suit, it has TIGHT tolerances. Always has. Please bring back the 31/33/35 sizes.....you see FAR more sales. Thanks in advance.

Nice name on shorts, beyond that -average

I wear a 34" waist in all my pants, shorts, etc. These shorts do run small. Had to return a 34" pair and reorder 36" pair, which is a little loose. No options are available in odd sizes. The item is not made true to size, so there should be in-between sizes.

great shorts

I'm not sure why there are reviews of an odd size with these trunks. I've been a size 33 wavefarer for about 10 years. I'm med pants and 33" in just about every pants and shorts I own. These are a little shorter than they've been in the past but waist is exactly the same as they have always been. Well made as always.

stretch a lot when wet

I bought these shorts a size larger based on everyone’s review saying they ran small. They fit great when they were dry, but once I got them wet they stretched out and were falling off of me. They are well made but need odd sizes.

Great overall with a few nitpicks

These definitely are on the snug side. I'm a solid 32" waist in every pant/shorts I own, and these in 32" are snug (I'm 6'2", 175 lb). I tried the 34" but those were too baggy, so I just put up with a bit of snugness that makes it a bit challenging to get them on, but otherwise the fit once on is fine. Also, why only one pocket? Sure, they're board shorts, I get it. But every bathing suits many times have pockets, if not the usual four, then at least two. These? One. And it's small. That's my chief gripe.

Runs very small

Beautiful striped pattern, but sized small. My husband is a 31 waist. Got him the 32 and he shared it felt like a 30”. These also aren’t lined, as he shared that’s pretty much a necessity. Anyhow, we tried.

My go to lifeguard shorts.

There are fantastic boardies! Super comfortable. Quick drying. I love them! YES they run small, order I'm normally 34 and the 36 fit perfect.

As sturdy as a pair of Birdwells, but more comfortable...

Great for water sports. For the other times not.

The waist band is super narrow, doesn't stretch and putting them on is a challenge. I have a butt. Once you squeeze into them, they are comfortable and dry extremely fast out of the water. Only has one side pocket, so wandering around town after surfing is inconvenient.
