Conventional sewing at its best
Non-stretch recycled nylon, lots of stitching, sturdy and blessedly flat seams (not typical of run-of-the-mill boardshorts. The fly tie is carefully set up to ensure the laces are aligned correctly, and the laces are lumpy, making them more resistant to unravelling. Flat, not round and intended to lie flat. Metal gaskets. The fly has a button. This is a current iteration of a board short that Patagonia has been making for years. It has a history of being very swimmable, not seeming to slow you down when in the water with swim fins, unlike quite a few board shorts that are bulkier, longer, or whatever. For those wanting an even smoother interior (bonded, not stitched for all but the waistband), and much more elaborate, thin waistband, Patagonia has the stretch Hydrolock.

Not for pool use.
Not for the pool. First swim and the bright blue color stayed in the pool, and I was left with a gray mess as I stepped out.I didn’t know they weren’t for swimming. It was a salt water pool as well. Took them back the next day.

Nice, but stitching quickly started unravelling

Fabric and many aspects of the construction are sturdy. I particularly like the knobby draw string that tends to stay in place better than many other shorts I've worn. I also like the button to help keep the fly closed. However after only about half a dozen times wearing these shorts I found the seams starting to come apart. I'm not sure if this is just a one-off issue with this pair or a general feature of how they were stitched.

Quick Fill-in Swim Trunks

Needed swim trunks for spontaneous trip to Hawaii for New Years -- these shorts did the trick in spades. Comfortable, lightweight fit that dried extremely fast. Primarily used them in the Ocean to Snorkel with Sea Turtles and Whale Watching. Easy change and storage between events - well made and comfortable.

Wish women's section had shorts this length!

The shorts are comfortable and perfect for kayaking. I would prefer to be able to buy this length in the women's section (with women's sizing) however. Current women's board short lengths are too short for practical use.

Good fit, decent wax pocket, appear well made. The one thing which could be improved is the opening at the fly area, it should open further to allow for easier entry. Thats why I gavwe it a 4.

Last pair ripped

I bought these because I had a previous pair that I absolutely loved — the fit, the design, the fabric, and especially the front pocket. I wore them all the time until they ripped along the seam under the seat. Hoping these last longer!

It’s a nice short but pricy.

It’s alright but it’s not worth the price. It’s a couple of feet of fabric and a simple sew so it’s very expensive for what it is.
