Unnecessarily complicated
Please note this nordic binding requires you to purchase the Rottefella Touring Auto Mounting Plate kit which has four plates and 16 screws. The Rottefella Auto Touring NNN NIS Cross-Country Ski Binding slides on to the plate and locks into place. The bindings come with a tool that enables you to release the binding from the plate. I mounted these NNN-NIS binding on my skis and they work fine. After working with them I would have prefered a pair of simple NNN-NNN bindings. REI Item #189024, https://www.rei.com/product/189024/rottefella-touring-auto-mounting-plates I ordered the bindings online, and bought the mounting plates in my local REI store.
Awesome new Rottefella EXPLORE nordic BC bindings
The REI description should be changed to Rottefella EXPLORE Backcountry bindings, as in the photo. These bindings, matched up with Alpina Alaska XP boots, have given me noticeably improved control over NNN BC bindings. The boot pins and binding snap-in design works very quickly and easily for both entry and exit. The 70mm pin width, combined with a very solid boot sole, allows all the ski torque I can generate to go into turning and edging the ski. With no heel lockdown, they aren't close to alpine BC bindings, but they are by far the best and hottest new setup for nordic BC bindings
Must buy NIS mounting plates separately
You must buy NIS mounting plates separately and REI does not offer the mounting plates. I wish that was made clear. Now I still don’t have functional skis.
Not a skate binding as advertised
The REI website claims this binding can be used for skating, but when I showed it to the REI ski shop he immediately informed me that it should not be used for skate skiing.
