Sleek style built for the outdoors

Good hiking tights are hard to come by. Most top-of-the-line tights I've seen out there fall into one of two categories. They're either: A) Durable for the outdoors (but kinda ugly with no pockets and only offered in black) – or – B) Stylish, sometimes with pockets, and more color options (but "durable" only to an indoor athleisurist). I've spent a LONG time trying to find the perfect tights that were the best of both worlds. I didn't expect much. ....But dayum. These tights do it all! POSITIVE POINTS: ‣ FIT: I'm curvy and long-legged, sized around a XL or 14. I've dropped a few pounds lately, so the form-fitting high-rise style works well at keep everying in place while still being comfy. ‣ APPEARANCE: I LOVE how well these tights steamline everything! When you've got curves, next-to-skin tights make it easy to get muffin-top, and often show imperfections around that *ahem*...bass area...These do NOT. Somehow, while wearing them, my figure goes from looking like your typical average-flab gal to a friggin' marathon runner. I feel very confident wearing them in public – I've even worn them to meetings at work! ‣ POCKETS: I wanted tights with a pocket that could fit my iPhone 11 Pro – instead, I got TWO! Plus, secret bonus pocket for small hand-held items. Jackpot. ‣ FABRIC: The fabric of these tights feels nice and durable. The texture reminds me of a good soft-shell techinical fleece. They're designed for the outdoors, so not the softest material ever, but I suspect they'll fair well at wicking moisture and resisting snags – we'll find out for sure this spring. NEUTRAL POINTS: ‣ BREATHABILITY: I bought these with the intention of wearing them in spring and summer. Here in the midwest, the warmer months mean not only heat, but humidity. So far, these feel incredibly breathable, so I have high hopes. Again, spring will be the true test. ‣ WARMTH: Simply put, these are not ideal for winter. Right now as I write this in early February with 3 inches of snow on the ground, these tights are not warm enough to hike in. Even layered with a pair of thick jeans over them, they're just not comfortable in the frigid temps. Recently, when the temps briefly rose above 50°, I wore them on a short hike – it was still a bit chilly without a layer on top, but doable as long as I kept out of the wind and stayed in the sun. NEGATIVE POINTS: ‣ WATER-RESISTANCE: Meh. Not the best. I did a drip-test with some water and it bled right through and took more than 5 minutes to dry. I suppose with a soft-shell-like fabric, that's to be expected though. As usual, the upside is good breathability and comfort. ‣ COLOR ACCURACY: I'm sad to give negative points here, but the color I picked (Glacier Green) was not quite as pictured. I hoped for a color closer to deep turquoise or emerald, but found it to be more of a light teal. They're not neon or anything...just not as deeply saturated as pictured. For once, I really wish the color "green" could be like, y'know...actual GREEN! Not just pondscum brown or turquose teal, but I digress... Overall, these are still a solid pair of hiking tights and by far the best I've owned. While I have greviences with the color accuracy, I appreciate the unique, subtle hues they offer. Trendy and techincal tights are a tough combo to get, and I'm happy to have found ones that do all of the above. I look forward to trekking in them out on the trails this spring.

Camel toe alert

Big time camel toe alert. I tried small and medium and the result was the same. The design of these hiking tights is a good idea but they need a gusset in the crotch. Because of the patch on the butt....it does not have a back seam that comes in to the crotch so that leaves three seams. Think about it. No way.

Couldn’t really ask for more

Really love these tights. Wore them for 5 straight days of hiking banff/jasper around 8-10 miles per day. Comfortable right off the bat, although I had to remove the 5 page long tag that was in an odd place. I was concerned about the knee patch placement, since I’m 5’2”, but it’s large enough that it easily works. And at 125 pounds the small is perfect for me. They are a little long but honestly not that much, I do a little tiny roll at the bottom and they work great. Love the size pocket, easily hold my phone for areas where I will be taking a bunch of photos. Would like another pair, but at the price I might just wait until I actually need them.

tights for hourglass athletes!!!

I love these so much. So durable. Fantastic pockets. Also, searching for well-fitting outdoor clothes, particularly bottoms, when you have a small waist, big butt, and strong thighs is usually so frustrating. REI brand and Patagonia and North Face tights and pants that fit my glutes usually are crazy loose on my waist. these fit. And, while I was skeptical about the reinforced sections, they are amazingly flattering. So comfortable, and it’s nice to not worry about my them ripping if I slide on some scree or kneel to take a photo. My favorites. They dry quickly. And really really phenomenal pocket sizes and placement. They are long, but the bottom is easily hemmed.

perfect pant

I couldn’t be more happy to find Fjallraven at REI. That’s a lie because I got these pants on sale! These pants fit like a dream. I’m 5’9” 150 and all legs. Ordered the small and they fit great, and are even long enough which I very rare. The reinforced knees and rear are well thought out. The pockets are minimal but just enough for map, phone... or snack. I love the high waist, I feel secure and don’t have to pull on them throughout the day. Most importantly I don’t feel sticky in them when I warm up with the temps. Well made pant for those who like to hike in legging style pant. Hope to get more.

LOVE these tights

I bought these last summer and unfortunately they were not in at rei yet. So I took a chance. Best investment ever. I am a big bottomed. Small waist gal. Hiking pants are just not made my type of woman. Either pulling at bottom or excessively large in waist. These tights are a dream. They are long. I don’t mind because I just put socks over them. They withstood 5 days of backpacking with no washing. Perfect. Ithey make them in Capri style too. I can’t say enough about these tights. I read other reviews online about size. Height. Weight. And decided to go with a medium. Perfect fit.

Great for long hikes, but some pilling

Just hiked 300 miles in these tights. Pros: Great for cool weather! Love the pockets and knee/butt reinforcement. Super comfy. Never started to smell over many many days! Cons: Have started to pill between the thighs. Also some brush made small snags. Surprising for such a high price point. I hope they remain durable. I wish they were even higher waisted! Carrying a pack they tended to sit about an inch below my bellybutton.

So comfortable love the thickness and the pockets

I ordered a size Large because I was not familiar with the fit of this vendor. I should have ordered a M so I am returning and getting the smaller size. I think I will Love them. They are so comfortable and light, can't wait to hike in them. They were too loose on me, but I can tell I will like them. The pockets are great. The reinforced knees and hips are a plus. I am 5'7" and 160, don't think I will feel uncomfortable in them at all with a longer shirt over it. Going on a 3 week hike/walk so looking forward to trying them out.

Amazing fit

Love these tights so much. My body type is athletic pear-shaped and these fit me perfectly. If you are pear shaped you know it can be hard to find tights that fit your hips as well as your waist, and these are amazing. I wore these on a 6 day backpacking trip in Montana and they held up beautifully, the reinforced parts were perfect for resting on fallen trees or rocks when we took breaks. They did get wet during a couple river crossings and dried quickly, so I personally didn't have an issue with that.

Perfect hiking and travel tight

I have taken these on several trips and they have been awesome. I have 2 pairs. They dry very quickly but I love that they can also be treated with waterproofing to make them like some sort of light rain pant. They have been out through hiking and the reinforced knees and butt really shine there. It feels great to be able to just sit down without worrying. I have actual human thighs and these have not pilled, snagged or worn at all in the 9 months I have had them. Granted, I reserve them for traveling (hiking, sweating, climbing around on rocks, stuffing in packs, rain, sink washing) , but they have not aged at all. I love the pockets.
