im 5'9" and 180lbs. I'm riding a 161 mostly at Mt Baker in a variety of PNW conditions ranging from warm wet heavy stuff to 12"+ of high 20's high to mid moisture level snow. I have Now Recons on it now and previously had last years Union T Rices on it. in the 161 the reference stance is over 23" so i moved each binding in toward the center of the board on mounting insert, so its sitting right there around 22" and right where Jones wants the weight on the board. This is a pretty dedicated freeride board and its really good at it. the board wants to go fast so if you get off your game you end up going faster than you want to and since its pretty stiff it will buck you around. In the powder this thing really excels, especially when you ride it around the reference stance. its about 2 1/2 or 3" back and with the camber profile and the spoon tech on the nose it rises right up above the snow and you get a good floating experience. little effort required at all to stay in control and on top. even in sketchy landings where i somehow managed to get the nose a little under, it just plows through it and you're on top again. its cool. like i said before its stiff so it likes fall line stuff, going fast and charging hard on groomers or anywhere in between. It does well in the trees too, i dont have many problems anyways. the only place ive found that this board is really not fun to ride in would be after the off piste areas get ridden out pretty good and moguls and ruts start to show up. this this doesnt flex a lot so it starts to become a bumpy ride in that terrain, so stick to groomers after that or just get really disciplined because its tough if you get off a bit. all in all a great board for what it is intended to ride, steep technical terrain, fall lines and pow. an awesome Baker board. i would highly recommend with a stiff boot and binding setup, im riding burton ions, now recons now and its a dream setup, really kills it.
Perhaps the fastest and best board I've ridden. It holds an edge like its on rails, is responsive, and tears up the powder.
I got to ride this board for the 2nd time last weekend in waste deep powder in Mammoth after a 60" storm. It is a beast in the deeps. I am very disappointed with the durability of the base though. I hit a rock that was just under the snow and it ripped a hole in the base right to the core and I am disrtraught! I just dropped a pretty penny on this board and already have a big gouge in the base. I like the way the board rides and feels but I can't get over how weak the base is....
was my daily driver until i hit a rock and blew out the base, edge and side wall. I loved this board. Flexible enough to be playful but at high speeds eats thru crud. I do have to agree with the base durability issue. every rock you hit rips a huge piece of the base out. Had a mtn twin and same issue. the base peeled like a tuna can. Never had base issues like this before????
