Very happy with the cty2.2
I really enjoy riding this bike!! I’ve had it for a month and have already put 48 miles on it. I haven’t rode in years and I remember that shifting gears with my old bike was really clunky. Not so with the cty2.2. It’s an easier smoother transition. I feel like it handles really well too. The disk breaks do a great job at stopping abruptly too. I added a kickstand, garmin bicycle computer with radar, cadence, and speedometer, a nitecore light, a cushion for the saddle and a mini tire pump. I’m super happy with choosing this bike and grateful for the knowledgeable people at rei.
Taking it to the next level
I knew that I was getting the right bike for my tastes, a mountain bike although beautiful felt stiff. What I didn't know was how much I would love this bike! I fly on the street, rides so smooth and quickly I've grasped how to change gears while sitting on hill or keep my cadence on a slope. Especially like the hydraulics in the fork. My old bike hasn't seen the light of day in almost a month. Wake up/take the bike out, daydream (multi-tasking) during work about cycling, and slip out again after dinner if I have time. I (rather my bike) get second glances as though I'm driving a sports car. Currently looking to get wheel locks b/c am paranoid of having bike stolen in Chicago, and needed the specs of the thru axle. REI answered my inquiry within 24 hours, and have only received compassionate service from the staff; either by phone, in-store, or online chatting. Gold stars for REI and their products!
An Accessory you'll want to add
This great bike begs to be ridden in a variety of different settings. Because of this you may want to adjust the seat height, but using a 4mm tool each time is annoying. Thus began my search for a correctly sized quick release clamp; hampered by the fact that the seat tube diameter is not officially published anywhere and public search result were wrong and HQ REI Customer Support also got it wrong (resulting in several returned purchases.) Luckily my local REI Bike Shop was able to digitally measure the tube (THANK YOU!) to tell me it's 35.0mm - so, a 34.9mm clamp is what you want. Price, style, and source are up to you - Enjoy!
Citi 2.2 review
Purchased the 2.2 almost two months ago after test riding 5 other models (Trek, Canondale, Specialized) to name a few all similar price points, CITI 2.2 had higher grade component suite and all Shimano. This model was the most comfortable, most responsive and smoothest shifting of all the Bicycles I tried. I did upgrade the pedals (clips), seat and added vertical grips on the handle bar, added an odometer and lights all from REI, this bicycle has been fantastic. I am out every morning at 0500 built up my average to 20 plus miles each morning. I have had zero fatigue or discomfort of any kind. This is after a ten year absence of riding any bicycle, already lost ten pounds in 6 weeks and enjoying every minute rain or shine, the best purchase I have made in many years.
Great bike
This is my first real bike I have owned outside of bmx as a kid. I did a lot of research and testing different bikes at REI and was most impressed with this model. It is lightweight and very well specced with gears, brakes, suspension, etc. The frame of this bike was produced by Giant in collaboration with REI. I do not exclusively ride on the road and rarely on rugged trails, so hybrid bikes work great for me. I use my bike at forest preserve limestone trails, sidewalks, on the road, and occasionally through dirt. I recently bought a mag trainer and have been using the bike indoors for training. This is a great bike and I highly recommend it for someone looking for a all around functional bike with high performance.
Slappa de bass man!
I love this bike. It’s been years since I purchased a new bike so I did a lot of research about whether to go with a mountain or a road bike. This is the perfect middle ground. Tried it on rough gravel: good Tried it off road d&g: excellent Tried it on the road: excellent I’ll never need another bike again. I did consider the 2.1 for a time, but the suspension shutting switch convinced me 100%. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to commute and consider the occasional off road trail.
Confidence boosting, fun ride
I've had this bike for almost 1 year, and it does not disappoint. I use it as a commuter 7 miles each way, long weekend rides, and quick trips around town. I was torn between a suspension fork and a rigid one, but the ability to lock out the suspension is a game changer. Breaks have great stopping power. Great on the limestone trails near me, road, hills, and bumps. Just now looking into adding extras such as a fender and rack. REI customer service was also great, both online and in the store. They really care about you and if you dont love the bike they'll work with you to find one you do.
I love this bike
This bike is just an all-around great bike. It's comfortable, very fast for the price and type of bike that it is, and has a stable design that has saved me from wiping out at least three times (honestly). If I could only have one bicycle for the rest of my life, this, or the CTY 2.1 would be it. I used to own a 2.1, but gave it to my nephew and upgraded to the 2.2.
Another Rave Review
This is a great bike. I've put about 40 miles on it in the first week I've had it and I'm finding it very comfortable and capable for my style of riding. I haven't had a chance to take it off road beyond some worn trails through grass, but the riding I've done has had some climbing and changes in elevation that have allowed me to move through the gears enough to begin to figure out how to make the system work for me, and I'm quite satisfied. Brakes are smooth and reliable and, overall, I've been very impressed with the full package.
Very nice bicycle, no short cuts taken in producti
I hate to admit being kind of a bike snob, but this bike has definitely made me a more open minded person. My niece bought the CTY 2.1 and rode it over to visit. I rode her CTY and looked at the components and frame design, then compared it to the top 3-4 most popular bike brands. I was impressed with the fact her REI bike had all of the same, or better, components on it. It rode and handled nicely as well. I couldn’t take it so three weeks later I had to order one for me, however I bought the CTY 2.2 because I didn’t want be a complete copycat, and I liked the Army Cot green frame better! I’m an REI convert and open minded now. :-)
