After using rented city bikes for my work commute, I decided to make the move to a new bike when I moved to a new city. As someone relatively new to biking, I think it's great! Gear shift is Shimano, easy and intuitive. Bike is right at a comfortable starting weight, feels solid and has an attractive look too. I have done several 10mi rides and one 30mi ride and have been satisfied with them all so far, just some creaking when braking. However I will be taking it in to the bike shop at REI to get looked at under the 1yr new bike purchase guarantee! Planning another longer ride soon, very excited to go for another ride with this bike.
My 13yo daughter has this bike. The wheel fell off while riding and she was injured. The quick release was checked the day before. I’m reading about the dangerous combination of disc brakes and and quick release where the motion of the brakes loosens the lever over time. Be cautious. The seating for the tire looks ill fitting.
Went into REI wanting to learn more about Cannondale hybrid bike offerings. Saw this CTY 1.1 bike, test rode it, really liked how it performed, got back and asked the price. It was an easy decision for me from there. Rode it 12 miles the next day which was very enjoyable. Great purchase!
Wife purchased this bike as a gift for me after I had been considering it for some time. I didn't know if the bike would be the right ride for me but loved everything about it! The saddle hurt at first, but through some break in time it became very comfortable. One issue I had was that the shifters stopped working after about a month. I would have loved to take advantage of the REI member discount to have the repairs but the bike was stolen! Overall, great ride and versatility. This was a daily commuter and the 3x8 handled hills very well. Also, loved to take advantage of trails. I will definitely be looking into purchasing another.
Not sure how many stars are appropriate as I'm a novice and I think what happened to me is a fluke, but just putting this out there. I was pedaling up a very steep hill when the pedal gave out. Upon closer inspection the whole 2nd gear chain ring was bent backwards into a 90 degree angle. The bike was unrideable as the bent chain ring was blocking the crankset (?) from moving freely. REI was great. I decided to return the bike for a refund and upgrade to a $1000 Trek FX3 elsewhere, but the refund was quick and easy. The bike shop guys both said they'd never seen this happen before. For the few days I had it it seemed great, handled all kinds of terrain well, but again I'm very new to cycling so I am not a good judge.
This is the best bike I have ever owned. I decided to upgrade a bike I wasn’t in-love with to try out a hybrid. I’ve ridden bikes my whole life, and I’m a very casual rider - I like to go on paved trails, and I needed a bike that was light-weight, easy to ride, and felt comfortable. I absolutely love this bike! I love how smooth it feels on the road, and how comfortable I feel on in - biking feels more effortless. It’s easy to carrying up and down stairs. The bike seat is surprisingly really comfortable. I’ve used the bike for almost 2 months now and I feel excited every time I head out.
only just got the bike today and only rode it the one time so far but the staff at the West Des Moines REI location were amazing in helping me get the bike that was right for me and set up for how i will want to use it from the rear rack, panniers, bottle cage, repair kit, tools, helmet and car mounted bike carrier the service was top notch i haven't been so excited to ride a bike in years. Ian and Sam had helped me along the way sharing their knowledge and personal adventures to help guide my decision. walked me through maintenance and ways to prevent excess and premature wear all while paying close attention to what i wanted to get out of riding. I'll have many photos to come as i get out and put miles on this sweet new ride
I absolutely love this bike. It’s study and strong. It’s not the lightest bike around, but my last bike was much heavier, so I’m pleased with the weight. I use it daily, and it hasn’t given me any problems.
Could not get the front derailleur to change smoothly for all valid combinations (not cross chaining), then noticed that the front derailleur, a Shimano altus, is for 40 tooth chainring, while this bike has 48 tooth chainring. Took it back to the Columbia MD store. The technician worked hard to set it up, but ended up telling me it's a cheap derailleur, it is normal for the chain to rub on the derailleur (no it's not), & to change quickly you have to be going at 20 mph (no!). They have designed this bike with the wrong front derailleur part.
Very nice riding bike with a great price. Rides and shifts smoothly.
