No interior cargo straps to secure boards
I have been using an old O&E travel bag for the last 15 years that didn't have wheels. The bag is great but I'm getting older so pulled the trigger on this wheeled bag to make my travels a bit easier. The construction of the bag is decent, was hoping for a bit thicker padding, especially on the bottom where the board is more prone to damage. For the price, I would have figured it had all the options needed for air travel. My biggest complaint is the inside does not have any restraints for your boards! Pretty lame Dakine ! It's only a few straps that cost a few dollars which secures your boards inside from shifting around that could have been easily been sewn into the construction. I would even pay a few more dollars for this feature ! I usually travel with 2 boards and without the interior straps, there is potential for damage to either board from shifting around. You know how the baggage guys treat your stuff !!! My old bag had a padded liner to put between both boards with a quick connect strap at each end. I would have thought this would be a no brainer for the product designers at Dakine claiming you can fit 2 boards. In no way does this review effect my rating for REI. They are 5 star all the way! I'm really on the fence on keeping this bag and continue to use my old bag with no wheels!
Holds a lot. Sturdy. But heavy
This has been my snowboard travel bag for the last 4 years. I travel with it at least twice a year.It holds a lot of gear. I travel with 2 boards, 2 sets of bindings, my poles, boots, helmet and clothes all packed into the bag. It can hold it all with some smart packing. The bag has not ripped in the outside or inside. The wheels still work perfectly. It has big lockable zippers that I appreciate. My only complaint is the weight of the bag. It’s heavy which means you have to cut back on the gear you put inside or pay bag fees. This is a good option for a big protective snowboard bag. Pro tip: save some styrofoam or packing materials from deliveries to provide extra protection and put an Airtagg in your bag so you always know where it is.
