I already own a pair of these boots and really like them, but this pair arrived defective. The main lace support at the top pulled free during the first lace-up.
I am a big guy 6’ 4” 280, I where these 9-10 hours a day for the last year at work five days a week. At night they go on boot dryers every night. They have never broken a seam and they have been flawless the entire time. The fit is phenomenal and I have a high arch foot and a medium width. I actually bought another pair of these and they are still new in the box because these have not worn out yet. I would highly recommend these they are awesome boots and I’ve never had an issue with quality ever with these boots. I also own the reg low top ones and never had an issue with them either.
I purchased these boots in January 2018 and have put some 200-300 miles (some demanding) on them through varying wet dry conditions. Not long ago I noticed, where the leather stripping adjoining the lateral side of the toe-box sole, was cracking and ripped. This is product defect the manufacturer supposedly addressed with different stitching and glue. Buyer beware. I recommend that if you buy this shoe, use a leather conditioner and-or buy the wider toe-box version. Good luck.
These shoes do not fit like the previous targhee shoes. They fit more snug and they added more fabric/ height on the back of the shoe so now the shoe digs into your Achilles tendinitis making them very uncomfortable for long periods of time.
I’m a large 15. So my normal size 15 started hurting my toes, I decided to try a size 16. Options are limited in that size, but Keen makes them. I just did my first 2 hikes in North Vancouver. The first in a wet creek bed. The second was 10 miles up rocky, slick , tree root, and snowy tareign. The boots performed very well. Sloshing in the creek bed in the rain my feet stayed dry. Scampering up uneven river rocks, my feet stayed comfortable. I did slip in an odor eater type pad between the removable insert and the sole fir extra comfort. My toes never got cramped. I felt sure footed with the sole grip. The sole fit the shape of my foot very well. I’ll take these on a 6 day sectional of the Appalachian Trail next month.
I'm a hard core Keen boot person as I have three pairs myself, and my kiddos have a few pairs too. They are GREAT boots...wide toe box, supportive heal, and truly waterproof. Great for many uses. However, I bought these for my fiance for our out west trip. He had them just about two months and only put about 50 miles on them (working and hiking), and the soles on both boots are separating and falling off. We were so disappointed! Now, we have to find a comparable pair.
I purchased these as a lightweight duty boot as a park ranger. My original purchase was a 1/2 size too small, but Keen's easy return procedure a second pair was on my doorstep within a week. I have 2 minor issues. First is that in order to get a snug fit for walking over scree and climbing hills, the top lace bites into the front tendon of my ankle. The second is that after a day on the trail, dust embeds into the nylon upper so that unless you blow them off with a compressor they become very discolored. My solution to all of this will be to buy a higher cuff, all leather boot from Keen next time because they are very comfortable out of the box.
These boots just stomped an off-trail 50-miler in Wyoming. I know they probably aren't rated for mega backpacking, but my pack is light, and I didn't want big, rigid, clompy boots. These soles flex. You will feel the rocks, but that's was okay. I wanted something more athletic, flexible, and less clompy. If you need a rigid, shank-in-the-sole boot for your mega pack, don't get these. But they did endure boulder fields, bogs, horizontal hail, summited a 13,000 peak, crossed a glacier, and still breathed in the sunlight. The soles are super grippy on boulders. The laces are great. And true-to-size -- no more of that half-size-down thing.
Really disappointed in the failure of this shoe. The last pair of Keens (the similar model from 12 years ago) lasted for over 10 years. Amazing shoes. On this pair, the tread started separating after just about a year, and I was only using them for day hikes. Probably under 30 hikes overall. None of them were too extreme, all on groomed trails. But the tread's coming apart. I'm disappointed that REI wouldn't replace them, but at least they gave me some shoe repair goo. We'll see if that helps. Keen: very disappointed in the drop in quality.
I bought these boots in January 2020 and really loved the fit and feel. After 6 months the front seem of the toe started separating from the fabric! NOoooooo! These are very comfortble boots but to spend money on boots that won't hold up isn't really worth it to me. I expect a good 2 years out of a boot. The tread is still in excellent condition. Both L and R boots are having similar problems. I have pictures of their condition. These are a true fit and durable waterproof boot in all aspects except for the front top of the toe separation that is way premature. I wear these boots 12-14 hours / day. I am on my feet all day. These boots are comfortable!
