Probably my favorite beanie.
This beanie is incredibly comfy (so soft), oversized but not loose, warm but not suffocating, and stylish enough for daily wear. Highly recommend. I often wear it around the house because it's so comfortable. The only thing to note is that it's not very resistant to wind.

It’s warm but......
Hola everybody. The whole reason for my purchase of this hat was to buy a smart wool product. I wanted to know that what I was wrapping around my head for hours on end was a all natural product. I looked at the plaque on the shelf in the store. The hat was offered as a smart wool product. Upon getting home and cutting out the tags I noticed that the hat is also a synthetic material. This was not conveyed anywhere on the plaquard or on the tags hanging off the product but, on the inside label hidden away. I wanted nothing but real fiber and not plastic on my head. I love REI and have been a member for a longtime. I’ll just check the inside label from now on to be safe.

A great plus-sized Watchman's Hat

I've got three of these, the burgundy, blue, and heather black, and they're all great. I've tried hats from many brands to try and fit my wonky 7 5/8 sized head, and most are either too long, or to thin and narrow. These are generously hefty and warm, while wide mouthed enough to actually fit my dome without stretching out to look like a little beanie or just plain being too long and droopy. The only negative is the lack of color options.

Great hat for cool days.

The Smartwool Cabin Hat is very comfortable. It is well-sized, with enough depth to allow the hat to sit above my ears, or cover my entire head down to my eyebrows, bottoms of my ears and most of the back of my neck. So far, we haven't had exceptionally cold weather, so I can't rate how the 50/50 wool / acrylic blend will be for warmth or wind resistance. I've worn it in the house on wet, gloomy days and outside on walks. I have not worn it enough to wash it yet, but the Smartwool socks I have wash beautifully, so I am assuming this will do the same.

My go-to for winter hiking in the White Mountains

This is a great piece of gear. It's super soft, fit is perfect, and keeps my head warm when winter hiking in NH. Not much more to say!

Stretches nicely, great material

When you have a pretty large hat size, it's difficult to find a cap that fits. This one stretches beautifully and the fabric feels superb while keeping you toasty. Plus, it's Smartwool, a brand I've trusted for years.

Cozy, sweaty, and sharp!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Well, let's just say I needed this. Prior to procurement of this beanie, my head could only be adorned with a neon orange hunting cap. The thing did it's job, but boy was it unsightly, and not very warm, for any other task. Glee is the best word to describe my initial feeling upon obtaining this hat around the holiday season. A cozier cabin everywhere I went was soon to become indeed! This beanie is toasty warm, but also does well to wick away head sweat in events of high energy output. And man does it look sharp too!

This is a great hat!

This is a great hat. Warm, lightweight and very comfortable with no itch. Slightly oversized from most similar hats it provides flexible coverage for entire head and back of the neck. I have been out in very cold conditions and it has kept me warm throughout. Highly recommended.

Perfect beanie for harsh winters!

I've owned this for about a year now and wear it pretty much daily in Michigan winters. It's extremely warm and so comfortable you forget you're wearing it. The merino wool used in this is amazing at regulating the temps. I can wear this on a 30F degree day, or an overnight winter camping trip with below 0 temps and this thing keeps my head perfectly warm. I've bought a few other beanies throughout the year but I always come back to this one. Guess I need to get some more colors of it!
