Coziness…
Lots of negative reviews on this but to each their own. For me, this jacket has lots of great first impressions. I can’t speak on durability as I’ve only owned this jacket for a month. Yes it’s the most expensive fleece I own however I love how soft, comfortable, faltering and warm this lightweight hoody is. I wear it casually in town or walking my dog, on hikes, and as a midlayer while I’m skiing or riding at the resort . It’s soft fleece inside, pockets for cold hand and a nice fitting hood plus a high zip to cover your neck when you forget a buff… I’d totally buy this again in a different color. I haven’t owned any previous models of the kyanite so I have nothing to compare to however I am usually a small in every other brands like Patagonia but with arcteryx, my atom and cerium are in a medium as I find them to run small. I ordered this in a small and it’s perfect ! Doesn’t feel tight or loose. It’s the perfect amount of slim fit and space for a baselayer
I received a second-hand, washed jacket
I bought this jacket at discounted price. I was so disappointed when I got this jacket because it did not have its original Arc'teryx price tag. Moreover, it has a pungent laundering smell!!! I have bought dozens of Acr'teryx product and I really know what a brand new Arc'teryx jacket smells like. A jacket without original price tag and with laundering smell, this is what I pay $144 for, can anyone convince me that this is a brand new jacket? I am 100% sure this jacket was wore by someone else, washed once, and returned to REI, but the staff at REI did't notice that, how dare you sold me a second-hand item at a brand new item price?
Sizing
I love Arc’teryx because of the longer lengths and the flattering fit for their women’s jackets. I can layer up without appearing boxy which tends to happen with some of the other brands. My Arc’teryx vests are mediums for reference. For this jacket the difference between a medium and a large is too vast. I’m 5’8, 140# 34D with a small waist. The medium was very fitted, almost where another layer underneath would’ve left me looking like a sausage. And the length would’ve been between my waist and hips. The large, however, had a good length which went below my hips and covered some of my bum. But the overall fit was very baggy and wasn’t what I’d hoped for. In the end, I kept the large bc I liked the radicchio color and the softness of the inside fleece.
Best purchase ever
I can't say enough good things about this jacket. I needed a fleece to fit under a snug-fitting puffy for a long backpacking trip and this was the only thing I could find that was light weight and flexible enough to make the layers work. It'll be the most comfortable jacket you'll ever wear. Light, breathable, flexible, at the same time very warm and cozy and feels substantial. Material science at its finest...worth every penny. To boot-- the dew drop color is beautiful...near white with just enough blue to make it stand out, very unique. Looks great, feels even better, nicely done arc'teryx.
Pills easily
I love the style, softness and warmth, however I have to give it a low rating due to the quality. I purchased this a month ago to use as a layer on a 3 week trip where we were mostly on a boat (easy use - not backpacking). In 3 places I have a lot of pilling - and this was prior to any wash since I was traveling. In the past I have come to expect good quality from Arc'teryx which helped me justify the high price. This product does not match up. I tried contacting Arc'teryx, but their only response was to suggest a clothes shaver.
Love the fit and feel and venting in the back
Super comfortable and easy to layer. I love the hood and how it actually stays on my head securely ! I am 5"4 and 127lb athletic build and a short torso. I have one in black that I decided to go with a small. However recently I was at REI and I found a hunter green that was on sale in a size XS. The XS actually fits well too, I was surprised by this because I tried an XS in black originally and the shoulder area seemed a little tight but not with the green one. If your in between sizes then go by what your comfort level and purpose is. Do you prefer fitted or do you want it to be more relaxed fit (similar to REI's photo) for layering? I could easily fit a long sleeve and t shirt underneath this but I thinj the zipper would start to slide down at that point. (one issue I've found with Arcteryx is the zipper doesn't lock in place)
Super soft and stretchy
SO soft. Listen to me: So. Crazy. Soft. It's stretchy and moves with you, and the sleeves are long enough for my monkey arms. My bust/waist/hip measurements are 36/28/39 - I also have a long torso and long arms - and the Medium fits me really well. Many Arcteryx top layers require me to size up to a large, but not this one. I'm very comfortable wearing tanks and short sleeves under this, but I probably wouldn't wear long sleeves under it because it might start to feel too tight. I tried on the large, and it was really baggy under the armpits (I guess across the chest). I likely wouldn't have paid full price for this, but on sale it was a great buy as I'm already wearing it all the time.
Poor quality
The Hoodie is comfortable and warm but the quality is not there. My wife took it to two weeks hike trip can the back is already flecked. I was expecting more quality for the price tag.
LOVE this sweater/jacket/sweatshirt
I really love this fleece . . . which feels like a sweatshirt (in a good way). It's relatively light, crazy soft and comfortable, warm, and its well-fitted -- not so baggy as my favorite big sweatshirt, but perfect for comfortable movie watching on the couch and slinging around town on weekends. The hem is lower than my waist (the picture of the model is accurate), which I like -- doesn't ride up and expose my waist or lower back. I have yet to take it on an adventure, but when I do, the hood will also be nice, and is ample enough to bring over a helmet if needed. Overall awesomeness. The ONLY thing I would change is that I would add a little soft fleece patch where the zipper hits my chin. Bought this on sale.
My new favorite adventure fleece
First off, I love the fit and style of this hoodie. It has great big pockets, large enough for a phone and other small items for a short hike, and the mesh pocket liner is sturdy and doesn’t snag or stretch when you put items in it. The style is very figure-flattering and I like that it is a little longer in the back to cover my bum and also keep the jacket from riding up with a pack. Some people have said it runs large, but for me it was more “roomy fitted” in the sense that it had extra room for comfort without sacrificing a cute, tailored shape or looking oversized. I typically prefer my fleece to have a little bit more room for layers and comfort, anyway, but if you prefer a “form-fitted” look I would size down. For reference I am 5’7” and 175 lbs and I got my usual size (large). The material is so lightweight and soft inside. I didn’t expect it to be very warm since it’s so light, but it kept me comfortably warm on a hike in about 48°F with just a long sleeve shirt underneath (Note: I live in Phoenix and am a wimp in the cold). It did a great job wicking the sweat away from my body. It got a bit windy at one point on one hike and I could feel it go through a little but not as much as other fleece I have worn. Another thing I like is how versatile it is. I find other fleece jackets look a little too outdoorsy for travel, but this one toes the line between athleisure and performance well. Plus, the blue is a nice color that matches both my neutral outdoor clothing colors, but is vibrant enough to add subtle pizzazz to street clothes. I also tested it for air travel and it kept me the perfect temperature on the airplane, was super comfortable, and didn’t wrinkle inflight. Most importantly, it fit comfortably under a puffy coat and still allowed for good range of motion. I hate that too-tight, bulky feel you get sometimes with layering, but this didn't limit me at all. Overall, I think this hoodie is a good “crossover” fleece. It is stylish enough for travel and daily wear, but functional and technical keep you warm and cute on outdoor adventures. It’s definitely my new favorite all-around fleece.
