Happy with this purchase
Overall im happy with it. Keep in mind the gloss black finish scratches very easily. I even noticed some scratches when i peeled the oem plastic off. Lots of fish eyes (dots) in the paint finish too. The structure is sound, love the locking mechanism and ambidextrous opening feature. Little heavy and cumbersome installing on a taller vehicle by yourself. I recommend an additional guiding hand. Fits great on a Ford Explorer. The only other thing I would advise you think about is weight ratings. This box is rated to a 180 lb load. My Ford crossbars are rated for a 100 lb load. The box weighs 48 lbs. If i follow Fords reccomnedation, I can only put 52 lbs in this box.

Overpriced piece of junk
Bought the motion XT XL with Thule Wingbar evo and clamps... Top of the line, $1400, thought I'm getting the best. Severely disappointed. The key doesn't go in smoothly and have to struggle with the key and latch mechanism every time. The box is flimsy and does not open and close smoothly, bending sideways or out of place with the edges. Add cold weather and rain and this thing is a nightmare. For over $1400? Better off with a trailer or just using a rubbermaid tote. Bad overpriced product. Do not buy

Great box for all your travel needs!

I've spent a lot of time trying to decide what size is the best (at least a good) fit for my wagon. I've settled on Motion XT size XL and I'm very happy I did. Box fits perfectly on top of 2010 VW Passat Wagon. Motion XT is huge on inside! Locks are great and overall build quality is just great. Made in USA! P.S. If you thinking about bigger box for Passat Wagon, it will fit fine. Checkout pics to see how this on fits on bars that sit above rails. P.P.S. if you thinking about using low profile cross bars, it may not work upfront due to clearance of stock clamps. Could be solved by t-track mounts, but they are hard to find.

Looks fantastic

Was having a hard time deciding between the L and XL version; I have a sedan and though I need some extra space, I also value proportions/ratios and how the roof box would change the overall appearance of the car. Decided to go with the XL version and do not regret. I think anything bigger, would indeed have been too big, but I think XL is the maximum level between look & form for a sedan.

Slick cargo box/durable/quiet design :)

Installed on my 2017 Outback and has travelled over 4K miles. Been through major down pours returning from Seattle and the contents remained dry. Both side openings very convenient especially in tight parking areas where one of the sides is tight to fit through for access. The blunt frontal design may not seem aerodynamic but overall it was quiet. That also provided additional height vice previous lower aerodynamic profiles that offered addt’l space. Locking system is well designed that gave me peace of mind knowing all locks have engaged when the slide lever extends fully with audible click. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase!!!!!

Works great on 2016 Jeep Renegade.

I have this on my 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude. Factory rails + Thule Aeroblades. I love to camp but I'm not a light packer. My dog loves to camp, but is not a fan of being so packed into the vehicle that he can barely move. This box solves all of the problems. This thing holds so.much.stuff. So worth it. It didn't make any extra noise, and at times I was going 65-70mph. Closes tight, none of my stuff was dusty from the miles of dusty roads. The shiny exterior is sexy, but it scratches very easily. It took 2 of us to take off and put on. Super easy to put on for a non-mechanically inclined person such as myself.

Thule Motion XT XL on a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Thule Motion XT XL was a perfect fit on my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I used the factory style roof bars which provided 3" of clearance off of the roof. I'm very happy with the look and functionality of the box and I can fit my long skis in there comfortably (up to 200 cm).

Fits like a glove

2011 Honda Pilot w/ factory cross racks. So I initially bought this online the first day of the 20 off coupon. I then realized I wouldn’t get it in time for our trip coming up so I called customer service to cancel delivery to the store. No issues whatsoever. I was able to do so as long as it was before the item shipped and they said I would still be able to use the 20 off on another purchase. The dividend I also used will be refunded by check in the mail. After browsing numerous times throughout the day online at REI to see if availability would change for the XT XL, I ended up seeing that the only one available in the LA area was the L size. When I got there to check it out, there ended up being a XL on display AND they had a new in box in the back. Lesson here is to not rely on what the internet says and just call or go in store. I didn’t get their names, but the employees at the Tustin branch were awesome! They even helped me bring it to my car, put on top, and haul away the box! I did have to install the clamps myself, so I would recommend watching YouTube before your first time. Total install took less than 5 minutes. The drive home was about 30mi at 70-75mph and I didn’t notice any wind noise. I think you have to be actively listening for it to notice anything. Also, be careful when sliding the holder where the clamps snap in. I was lining up the holes so it was over the racks before installing the clamps and slit my finger because the edges were pretty sharp. The fit: with the box moved all the way forward, there’s maybe a couple mm clearance when the trunk hatch is opened. It’s because of the rear windshield wiper nozzle. I centered it midline on the roof, but you can also have it closer to passenger/sidewalk side for easier loading due to safety/traffic. It’s definitely a 2 person lift on/off, but maybe because it was on a taller suv. I tried to do it by myself but it was awkward. I ended up choosing the XT over the Force because it was more sturdy, the key/lock system was better, and the lip enclosing the box is deeper to prevent possible opening during driving. Overall a great box. Looking forward to using it on our coming ski/boarding trip!!

Hands down best cargo box

The Thule Motion XT XL is my second Thule cargo box and I could not be happier. (Our daughter inherited the Thule Force XT XL). Both of these boxes must have 5 hard ski seasons with drives from Kicking Horse to Utah and all points between. The Motion XT is hands down my favorite cargo box and other than some more stickers looks as good as it did on day 1. Solid construction, easy to mount, no wind noise, negligible loss in gas mileage, and makes traveling with lots of baggage (and dogs!) sooo much easier. Highest recommendations.

Sleek and aerodynamic with minimal MPG impact

I love the style of this Thule Roof Box. I have a blacked out Subaru Outback Touring edition and instead of looking like I have this box on my car, its sleek and really works with the curves of the car. Super easy to attach with twist locks inside the box. Opens from both sides so you can store items and easily access them. Long enough to hold your skis and snowboards to keep them from getting blasted by the road dust. Locks freeze up a bit in cold weather so perhaps have a little warm water to heat the lock and key if they freeze up.
