Features

  • Adjustable shaft changes length from 210 - 225cm with a simple, tight-fitting system; adjust length for open water or tighter moving water rivers and streams
  • Offers a balance of light weight, stiffness and durability; fiberglass blades and carbon shaft keep weight to a minimum, for when counting ounces is a priority
  • Dihedral blade shape allows for smooth and stable forward paddling
  • Midsize high-angle blades fit the widest range of paddlers
  • Custom-shaped, low-profile, reinforcement spine allows enhanced blade maneuverability when linking several strokes; spine also provides blade stiffness and overall strength
  • Designed for light swing weight and impact resistance, accommodating both open water and moving water paddling; the Pack-Tour M is not whitewater strength however
  • Rinse pieces with water prior to reassembling as dirt and debris can foul the precise fit; if pieces are difficult to assemble, repeat the rinsing—do not use lubricants

Heavy & Low Quality

Bought two of these paddles for a kayaking trip to Baja. The paddles have a slight off set, which I was unaware of when I purchased them. The paddles were also heavy, and the ends of the paddles chipped easily. The paddles pieces have a tight fit, but there were times I had great difficulty getting some of the pieces apart again after paddling. Two of the paddle shaft pieces are now permanently stuck together. I was very careful in not getting any sand or grit to avoid this issue, but it didn’t matter. Lastly, two of the buttons that lock the pieces stay in a recessed position and I had to bang the paddle section to get the button to pop up and lock the section in place. I’ve been a life long Werner paddle owner and have paddled the Cyprus model for years, but this 4-piece model was a great disappointment.

Recommended, but read the small print.

These are of good quality and I cannot see them disappointing, but I agree with reviews elsewhere (and Werner’s own disclaimer): these are plainly not for super heavy-duty use under challenging conditions. Real muscle can be applied and they will allow that, but that much and no more. The real Achilles heel is the lock stud mechanism - at the best of times, and I have experience here - the carbon tubes need to be cleaned after use and kept free of grit/fines, especially after salt water exposure. If you don’t, there is the danger corrosion will ruin the spring, leaving the stud depressed or refusing to depress. Werner are famously unsympathetic when presented with such cases, unsurprisingly! Unlike 2-piece paddles, here you have 4-pieces, double the trouble. The tolerances on Werner paddles are tight, but on these they appear tighter still - the fit is very close and fitting together/pulling apart this is quite obvious. I like these, and provided you are clear on what they can and cannot do, and provided you look after them, I believe they will serve you well - they are light, stiff, well-made and, of course, hugely packable, great for their intended use and also, possibly, as the spare you hope never to need, stowed in the back of your kayak

Still Scratching my Head on this Purchase

While I understand the need for packable light weight, these paddles are really fragile. I mean the blades are potato chip thin and I'm wondering if I should even test them out in the rocky shore conditions of Utah. They were even scratched just through shipping. I'm sure they paddle great, but for durability on a long tour, I think I would rather stow them as a backup paddle. However, that's a pricey backup paddle. BTW, they are offsett, that should be mentioned in the description.
