Maui Jimmer for life....
I’ve had multiple pairs of MJ sunglasses over the years, most recently Ho’okipa’s. They fit great, are light and easy to wear, don’t put too much pressure behind the ears, but stay on your head really well. They have the best visuals of any sunglasses I’ve owned, which have been dozens of pairs over the years. I have multiple pairs including: Blue Hawaii (lighter for not full sun but bright days), black/grey (for full sun), and brown (for fly-fishing and on the water). Buying through REI provides the membership dividend and when combined with other store promo’s, ends up being the best deal I could find. If they could only invent lenses that wouldn’t scratch or mark, that would be true perfection. I tend to me pretty hard on my sunglasses, which keeps us coming back for more.
Outstanding Quality Sunglasses
Maui Jim is the best! I've had my 2nd pair of Ho'Okipa for years and really took care of them. Lens is outstanding. I retired as an engineer and was out in the field most of the time. Polarized lens works wonders with glare and protects my eyes from direct sunlight all day long. The not so good part is, I just lost them today. I dropped it while taking off my hoody sweatshirt in the parking lot. After reviewing the lot CCTV camera, man parked by me picked it up and secretly put it in his car while I was busy looking for it inside my car. I need a new pair, but I'm concern if the new ones are still the same design and still made in Japan.
Excellent all around sunglasses
These are excellent for tennis, especially with the Blue Hawaii lenses providing contrast and good protection. Also, nice for all around wear. Lightweight and yet they stay on well.
Great wrap-around style with new Blue Hawaii lenses
This is my 4th pair of Maui Jim rimless sunglasses -- but my first with the new Grilamid frame material and Blue Hawaii lenses. My initial reaction is that they look and feel great. The Ho'okipa frame shape is classic Maui Jim: Wide profile with gentle curves and a slight wraparound. Compared to Maui Jim's titanium and nylon frames, Grilamid feels stronger but also stiffer (if I'd known that they don't fold up quite as tightly as my nylon "Lighthouse" frames with the same base curve, I might not have selected this style -- they barely fit into the provided case -- but I'm sure I'll get used to it) The Blue Hawaii lenses theoretically have the same color rendering as the neutral gray lenses, but to me, the view feels brighter and the colors even more accurate.
Love the sunglasses
After my dog chewed up my 10-year-old pair of sunglasses, I ordered the same ones again. I like them that much. And since only the lenses were damaged by my dog, I’ll probably get the old pair fixed. I really do like these sunglasses and living with bright sun almost everyday, sunglasses are a must-wear item. I do have two problems. I ordered bronze lenses and I see that I got the neutral gray lenses. It’s not enough of a problem for me to send them back. Also, I could use some tips on adjusting the frames. I’ve watched videos and am slowly getting them to fit better, but some tips from Maui Jim’s would be helpful.
Hookipa owner since 1990 - Got my first pair in Maui, HI while on VaCa
I absolutely love this style. I believe this is my 8 or 9th pair of the Hookipa's. Got my first pair in Maui, in the early 90's. They are light, feel great, good for all activities - driving, sports, fishing, beach, and so on. Right now I have 3 pairs - one I wear, one in my car and a backup in my gun safe. I live in FL and these tame the sun just perfect. Last thing, the MJ lenses in the Hookipa's are super, and very scratch resistant and light weight. I have 2 with bronze lenses and the rest are grey. Of the first 6 pairs I had, either the frames or temples broke, and one of my Labrador's chewed up a pair too.
More durable than Lighthouse but still very light weight
I had the Lighthouse before and loved them for their light weight but they always felt so fragile. It's difficult to put them on with one hand because they are so flexible. I got the Ho'okipa and although they are a bit more expensive I defiantly think they are worth it. I've had them for a few months now and the clarity, quality is what I've come to expect from Maui Jim. I'm actually in the midst of ordering a second pair. I just got a 3rd vehicle and it's frustrating trying to remember to bring them from car to car. I love these while out on the boat too, they stay on very well but are still super lightweight.
Fantastic and great protection for after caterac surgery. Light weight and comfortable.
My Ho Okipa brown sunglasses are the most amazing sunglasses I have ever had. I have used them before I retired in law enforcement and also as a vol. firefighter. They are better than prescription. Tough and agile, light weight and protective of the eyes after having had both eyes with catateracs and the Doctor recommended these type of wraparounds. I have had them about 3 years and would not consider any other brand or type of sunglass fo the eyes. Top notch. My only not like is that they don't hold up well when you drop them in gravel then step on them. Duh! I can't get along with out them. Need to repair them or buy new. They are a 6 out or a possible 5 stars.
Blue Hawaii not very dark or reflective
This my second pair and am sending them in for repair, I went to put them on and there were several scratches on the left lens, no idea how they got there but they are there. I am having to agree with others on the darkness of these they do not seem to be reflective and not very dark at all, they are light weight and due to a severe head injury these are about the only pair I have found I could wear for an extended period of time.
Low quality matereals, easely scrstched. Poor warranty.
Very easy to scratch. Low quality Materials. Purchased on Sept. 2024 Very light use - 3 -4 times. Used only recommended cleaning tool. Now have scratches on the lenses. Pros: looking nice, and vision ok before thay becpme scratched. Warranty department wanted me to pay upfront not only for shipping, but also for processing. Not worth the hassle.
