Leave almost no trace, enjoy a good fire, and cook

We brought this on a three day/two night car camping trip and (with car camping in mind) we were delighted. Setup is extremely easy. Unfold it, align the feet with the drip plate. We were out to relax and purchased local firestarter. As it happened, same firestarter contained wax. This caught all of it. Pit allows for a decent-sized fire for warming one's feet and cooking. It's also quite pretty... This leads to our only complaint: Since it seems wildly impractical for hiking, it might as well be a little bigger to provide more warmth. In the morning, the grill was great for cooking oatmeal in still cups. When packed up, the only trace was a few burnt coals I knocked over while cleaning it.

Grill rust after first use

Not worth the premium. The fire pit and pit work wonderfully, however the grill is hard to clean and rust right after first use. Contact Snow Peak customer service and they suggest to soak in vinegar overnight to remove the rust and oil it after, basically seasoning it as if it made out of cast iron or carbon steel. The problem is you have to do it every time after using it because the oil with burn off with extreme heat from the fire. Fed up with the cleaning and seasoning, I custom weld a new grill from a proper grade stainless steel and no longer have to worry about rusting anymore. Disappointed with the original grill as well as Snow Peak customer service.

Solid high quality portable grill

Hard to beat for quality and durability. This Japanese made folding grill at first seems smaller when set up. This is definitely not a “smokeless fire pit/grill” the advantage to spending $300 on this over the Solo Stove Bonfire, is that; 1- it’s made in Japan ( solo stoves are made in China). The grill to cook on is made in Korea. 2- it throws heat out and up( you really feel the heat output on all sides) 3- it comes with everything you need instead of having to purchase the stand, ash pan, and grill accessories separately. 4- the steel is a much heavier stronger gauge than the solo stoves. 5- its much easier to clean the ash out. This is not a flimsy cheapo pit/grill. This will definitely last a lifetime. The welds are solid and the legs are super heavy gauge as well. My only complaint about this is for the grill grate. It would have been better if Snowpeak made a grill grate and folded so you could easily add more wood without having to move the grate off. Really not a biggie. You can just purchase an aftermarket folding grill grate to go over the grill stand but one thing that this grates advantage is, is that it is a criss-cross pattern. That way grilling onions and asparagus wont fall through to the coals. I Have only used wood. Never charcoal as I have a Webber bbq for grilling. I got this mainly for car camping. You wont want to lug it down to the beach. It almost weighs in a 35lbs. But its the quality you will pay for. I love that it folds flat and comes with a solid carrying case. When all is put away in the case, there’s still room for a hatchet and an outside mesh pocket for a box of matches or grilling utensils. I used it on a few windy nights and none of the coals blew out. Buy one, you wont regret it.

Portable, Easy setup and breakdown fire and grill.

Me and my wife love the snow peak fire & grill. It’s compact, easy set up and easy breakdown. It is well built and the the weld are superb. We went glamping and used it last week and made lunch and dinner by using the grill. That night we made a fire pit and s’mores for the kids. The only cons are, it is heavy but it’s worth carrying it. I checked out other snow peak products and interested in purchasing some other products.

Severe rust after two uses.

I am a huge fan of Snow peak, and own many of their products. This product in particular is a great concept, but I have questions about its longevity. I have used this fire pit twice, and always stored it inside after use but I am already experiencing severe rust. This product is constructed from 316 stainless steel so it should be resistant but unfortunately it is not. My Solo Stove Bonfire pit has been left outside for years and has no signs of rust…. I think I may be returning this.

Just buy a solo stove...

Wanted to love this fireplace, but it rusted after the first use to the point where it flaked off. I always store this inside as well, and have never left it outside. My Solo Stove has been outside for years and has no signs of rust. I will be returning this product. It's unfortunate because I am a huge Snow Peak fan.....

Great Fire Pit - Good Grill

Like all multi-function camping toys, this does some things better than others. This is an awesome fire pit - got many compliments! However, It's only a good open-face grill that works well with charcoal. The Grill Net is an absolute bear to clean even with a wire brush - especially if you're on a multi-day trip and like to BBQ. If I could make a design wish - I'd suggest a regular cast iron grill top that can take oven-cleaner and get back into action quickly.

It’s heavy and starting to rust

It’s a nice firepit/grill for home and car use. It’s VERY heavy for what it is and must not be high grade stainless because the body and grill are both starting to rust after just a few months. It’s never been left out in the weather and lives in the garage in its tote bag.

Great solution for #vanlife

As a #van guy I'm constantly looking for quality products that are both lightweight and compact. This product is definitely compact but it is heavy - especially if you get the extra drop-in grate and stand (goes under the base plate). When you have a van it doesn't really matter but this thing is heavier than expected. Good news is it works great and you can move food closer to fire if needed. Also - works great for a simple campfire! My only complaint is the bag - it's rock solid, thick, and durable. But it's open on the top and I would have preferred a zipper - I might even add one via my local sew shop.
