Rated 5 out of 5 by from I think I can sleep anywhere 24 hours before you use this pad it is CRITICAL to let it inflate by itself and then pump it up and let it be! Of course it says so in the directions, and the very knowledgeable REI staff member reminded to do this. So needless to say it was inflated in the back of the SUV on the way to the mountains. I used it in a cabin sleeping on the floor so my older friend could have the bed. Great for those last minute trips when you get the last room and don't want to sleep on the pullout sofa! The pad is big and weighs 9 lbs. It inflates easily and comes with a little pump and a storage bag. Happy Trails!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally able to camp in comfort again! I splurged on this with my dividend & I'm so happy I did! This sleeping pad kept me asleep, warm, & completely pain-free by morning, despite my back problems & being a side sleeper. Looking forward to frequent camping trips again now that & have this pad!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most comfortable pad I've ever used I've gotten creakier as an older adult and needed something more comfortable to sleep on. Since getting a knee replacement, I've been unable to find a pad with enough cushioning to avoid knee pain when I was lying down in my tent. I've also sometimes woken up with a sore back. The MegaMat is far more comfortable than anything I've ever used. It's like bringing a twin bed into your tent--roomy, warm, and padded. Like a real bed. No more stuffing a pillow under my knee or waking up uncomfortable in the middle of the night. It's great to be be able to just toss the MegaMat in my tent with the Inflate valve open, wait 20 minutes, and only have to hand-pump it a few times to get it to the desired firmness. I found that unlike my previous air mattresses, it holds its firmness in my tent over multiple days despite changes in temperature from daytime to nighttime. A good design feature is having two separate valves for inflating and deflating. The MegaMat deflates easily to put in its stuff sack when traveling. Exped's video about deflation is helpful. Just open the Deflate valve, fold it in thirds, sit on it to get the air out, and then unfold it and roll it. Exped includes helpful directions for care. Make sure you follow the directions about the first inflation, keeping it fully inflated for 24 hours before use to make sure that the memory foam inflates all the way after that. I trust Exped knows what they're talking about when they say if you keep it stored in its stuffsack, it will require a lot more pumping to get to full inflation. That's comparable to other kinds of air mattresses. A couple things to note. First, once the pad self-inflates, should you want to add a little more air to make it more firm, it can be hard to get the hand pump to snap on to the valve because the inflated mattress has some give to it. It's doable, just requires some patience. Second, Exped advises that you store the mat inflated for best performance. Given its large size, this could be a challenge if you don't have a lot of space. Thanks to the MegaMat, I'm able to continue car-camping pain-free. It's worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even better than expected We have always loved everything about camping except the actual sleeping part. These mats really were a game-changer for us! SO much more comfortable then I even expected. We are now planning multiple-night camping trips. Cannot recommend enough! Super easy to inflate and worth the $ for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best camping sleep I've had I recently "glamped" in Canada while attending a retreat and brought this bad boy along. It is a serious game changer. I have nerve damage and neck issues, so having a good sleeping pad is extremely important to me. It's large and wouldn't be feasible for a backpacking trip. My significant other has been trying to convince me that for two smaller in-shape folks sharing this sleeping pad is doable. I disagree. My experience is that this really only a one person sleeping pad even though it is listed as "extra-wide". I would recommend getting the double Exped for two people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Dreams Incredible Sleeping Pad !! I purchased this for a four day camping trip and was not disappointed. No doubt this is the best nights sleep i have ever had camping. I am a side sleeper and this pad was perfect. I think it's more comfortable than my bed at home. Well worth the price....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best base camp mat I use this mat on top of a Disc-o-Bed cot at my off-grid cabin. Follow the instructions. The first inflate takes some time, so read the instructions and do it at home the first time and you are ready to go. For "at camp" sleep quality it's almost on par with my very expensive memory foam mattress and I can side sleep in comfort!

I have 2 small dogs 10 and 14 pounds each. Would they be an issue sleeping with me in this pad

Asked by: Classicgirl77
As long as you protect the pad from their nails and teeth, it should be fine. I don't want my 75 lb lab on it though.

Has anyone tried this with a hammock? We like to go winter camping here in Alaska, so I'm really interested in this pad's R value. But I'm worried this pad would be too "rigid" when inflated to work with the curve of a hammock.

Asked by: Branson
The R-value of this sleeping pad is 9.5. This pad was not designed specifically for use with hammocks. We recommend using an underquilt to insulate your hammock.
