I purchased the Scarpa Crux shoes from REI approximately 3 years ago. These shoes have been all over the Hawaiian Islands. They've suffered through the brutal red mud and clay along with waterfalls and stream crossings. These are my go to shoe for outdoor exploring and adventure. I've used them to walk and to trail run. They weren't necessarily designed to run, but the Vibram soles help grip and allows me to stay vertical on the narrow ridges and slick features. The shoes never felt heavy and for overnight camping trips, I typically wore them and carried my lighter scandals. The shoes did take a hike or two to adjust and break in. I enjoyed the safety and stability so much that I ended up purchasing these shoes for friends as well! Enjoy!
Kind of annoying because I seem have to always tighten them down several times and definitely always have to double knot the laces. I think it's because the upper part of the shoe is really padded. Pretty flimsy laces. They are pretty bulky for strapping to your harness for climbing and any multi-pitch walk offs. Also, the loop on the back of mine has been worn through so now to attach to harness it has to go through the laces that I tie up. Wouldn't buy them again. Love the color ways though and definitely grippy on rock!! I've put these through the ringer. Owned for about 2 years.
I am so sad about these shoes. When I first put them on, they were like clouds for my heals. I tried wearing them for a day to make sure they would work for my trip to Yosemite, but sadly, after a days wear, I realized that the fabric was higher than other shoes I own, near the inner ankles and rubbed on the bone. I was so disappointed, the shoes look great and are so comfortable everywhere else. I read other reviews, and no one has commented on this issue. I’d say they are worth a try, and I would recommend them if the ankle thing doesn’t affect you.
I bought these about 5 years ago, and I’m wearing them even as they fall apart. These are definitely bulky if you’re looking for an easy-carry pair of shoes to take with you on a climbing trip, but I wound up using mine instead if my hiking boots. They have great grip and they have been very comfortable for long days on your feet. I’ve done multiple multi-day backpacking trips, and with another one planned I’m looking to purchase another pair to start breaking them in. I tried the 5-10 guide tennies for a bit, but I switched back to wearing my old scarpas.
