You don't know you need this but you do.
This thing is awesome! Took it to the lake and people passing by wanted to know where to get one. So this thing comes in a pretty big bag( think small golf bag). Not super portable for backpacking or air travel but put in your home or car and its great. No written instructions but wasn't hard to figure itout except the crossbar. It feels very well made and its comfortable. I hate using trees because of bugs and other reasons but this solves the problem. Comes in a nice bag. its pricey but since there is not really anything as portable I would say buy it.

Not nearly worth the price
I was really excited to find this item because I rarely find the perfect set of trees to set up my hammock and this seemed like the perfect solution. It was pricey but if it helped me get more use out of my hammock then it would be well worth it. The bag it comes in is a little bigger than you would think but ultimately that is ok because this really isn't made for backpacking. My main issue with it is the ridgepole (center pole) does not connect intuitively and was incredibly frustrating. It constantly came undone and was just a pain in general. I'm sure with a little practice it wouldn't be too bad but for the price you'd expect this thing to be effortless. You're paying a premium for this product and little annoyances like this make you question your purchase. For good measure, part of the plastic on the ridgepole snapped off on my first use. I packed it right back up and returned it the same day I got it. I was expecting so much more for the money.

Allowed me to hammock camp in the desert!

Bought this used from rei which was nice cause I saved some money. The system works wonderfully and is easy to set up. I took it on a month long road trip and it was wonderful as I only sleep in hammocks. I'm often frustrated because of the lack of tree options or because in many national parks they will not allow you to wrap the straps around the trees. My 2 big complaints are the weight and the way the bag to store stuff is designed. The pockets need to be completely separate otherwise the poles get trapped and it's hard to zip the top and also pull them out later. The lining also started to rip out too which was frustrating. I think the pole design is great but the bag design is not.

My most prized piece of camping equipment!

I have been hammocking pretty solid for the past 6 years, camping at least once a month. Prior to buying the Nomad stand, I was limited to where I had a place to hand my hammock. State and National parks were a no-go, camping without trees was always a no-go, and setting up a tent on rocky ground was a show stopper. I have been using this solid for the past 4 years, even travelling with it to BSA summer camps every summer. I've never once had an issue with the system, and used the bug shelter with a tarp for the first few years until the NOMAD shelter was available... now I enjoy the whole system. Let me just say that if my Nomad stand failed today... I would, without hesitation, buy another one!

Awesomeness

Very easy setup, very sturdy!! The one review that mentioned they don't like how the ridgepole fits in because they don't feel safe, just needs to study up a little on design work.. the ridgepole is essentially what's keeping the two tripods standing.. the way it is hung wouldn't allow it to fall off.. staking it down isn't a necessity which is good.. setup takes five minutes or less and is super easy.. very compact design allows for taking it to the park, beach and other places.. my favorite use is setting it up outside my apartment and just relaxing.

Experienced hammock camping

Is this nomad hammock stand was the best purchase I have ever made in my whole entire camping career it is fast easy to set up and very fast and easy to break down I swear by it this product is definitely worth its weight and gold...... I am a weekend camper and I have been carrying my hammock around for 6 years and trying to find trees to camp under and a lot of times I'm limited to the same camping spots because I can't find the right trees or strong enough trees to basically hang my hammock up safely so this nomad stand changed my whole Camping World now there is no limit whatsoever, I showed this to all my friends and now everybody wants to buy one lol And you know I have read the reviews on it and there were a couple of bad reviews on this product but I just cannot see what is so bad about this product whoever thought of this idea is a genius.

Car camping

I car camp a few places that don’t have trees close enough to hang from and a couple places they don’t allow you to hang anything from the trees, so this was the perfect accessory for me. It’s easy enough to set up by your self the cross bar takes me an extra minute to get on so it feels secured but it’s not hard. I would not recommend this for backpacking as it is fairly heavy but it’s perfect for car camping. I have even set it up in my granmas basement so I didn’t have to sleep on the floor when we had our family reunion there.

Amazing, although

I’ve been using the nomad for some time now, and it’s been great! The sad expected down side is it only really works for car-camping and if you’re a good hiker 4 mile stretches. Another problem is it can be damaged in shipping and as amazing of a return policy that REI has they won’t/can’t send a simple broken part, when I received mine the top “hub cap” if you will was broken, it protects from water seeping through your straps and I haven’t been able to get a replacement, otherwise amazing product even with the high cost.

Convenient for camping without trees.

Convenient for camping without trees. It is easy to set up and to use. My only complaint is I’m short at 5’4” and I wished it was longer because I felt I could not get the hammock taunt enough for the sagging in the middle. If it was a foot longer that would improve it, but I understand the limitations with weight distribution. Otherwise the product is great.

does the job when trees are lacking

sturdy so far, the cables and nylon straps make me worry about longevity but so far it sets up really easily and packs away clean in about five minutes worth of effort. it does take up some room as there are two large tripods effectively holding you up so not meant for confined spaces.

car camping luxury

I've had this item for just a couple weekends, but both have been spent car camping in the desert. I've been waiting for a product that was light weight and easy to set up and eno nailed it. Sets up in less than 10 minutes. My wife and I love it and although we max out the recommended weight limit while doubling up it still feels sturdy and is as comfortable as can be. Great product, particularly for desert dwellers that are short on hammock trees.
