Mostly Does the Job
I picked up the TICKR when I left my Garmin Premium Strap at our cabin and didn't want to skip training rides solely because I didn't have an HRM strap. There are a few things I like about it over the Garmin Premium model (and the litany of other straps I've had): 1. The LEDs let you know that the battery is working, if nothing else. 2. The strap is rather soft. 3. Cheaper than the Garmin Premium Strap. 4. Seems to work better with Zwift via an ANT+ dongle (it has Bluetooth LE, but that's just a far inferior protocol and most head units support ANT+). 5. As you would expect, this works with any head/watch that supports ANT+ (I mostly use it with an Edge 520, but have tried it with a Fenix 5x Sapphire just for grins). However, it's in many ways an inferior strap. 1. It needs to be readjusted every couple of days as the nylon hardware doesn't really lock it into place all that well. 2. The fabric strap isn't always dry the next day (I just wear it wet, as it's not that big of a deal). 3. The big one: the plastic on the backside of the strap (the two pieces where it connects, specifically the cover that goes over the snap and actually touches your chest) is fragile. Mine have broken off multiple times, even if I take great care in unsnapping a given side (it flexes which makes it fragile). I have to super glue it back together every few months. I use it interchangeably with the Garmin Premium strap and... well the Garmin strap is just made better. It's worth the extra $$ to not be constantly fixing your HRM strap.
strap not as good as old one!
I have owned a tickr monitor for almost two years. I have encouraged others to also purchase because it was so easy to use with the apple watch. I recently purchased a new strap for my daughter. There are no problems with it connecting and working. The problem is the strap. It is different from my old one - I assume it should be an improvement. But it is constantly popping off. The snaps do not hold it together sufficiently. I am a small person so I know I am not putting a lot of stress on the strap. And I know I am not the only one having this issue. I recommended the tickr to my workout instructor and she has trouble keeping her strap on also!
Awesome device easy to use
Amazing design, easy to use, very good app and very good sync capacity. I own a Garmin vivo smart which synced nicely, the only downside is that sometimes the app loses sync with the device, even being very close, I own a galaxy s6 and this happens randomly at least twice in a 2 hours workout session. I have used it for aerobics, spinning, rowing and Hiit and definitely live it. I would give them 5 stars if they had notifications for mile stones, I. E. I'm trying to reach 700 calories per workout and would be nice if the app could tell you about your goals but in general is an amazing device that can help you to accomplish your goals.
Not working as hoped - still tinkering
Works well with the ANT+ connection on Zwift, but not the iPhone 6 bluetooth connection on Strava. On my iPhone, my heart rate jumps around (e.g. In the middle of going full throttle up a hill it instantly drops from 180bpm to 14bpm) and seems to get stuck on a bpm number for stretches of time. I contacted customer service and they came back with a laundry list of things to try. So far I have tried using electrode gel, flipping the battery to reset, shaving my chest, and the issue is still not resolved. The new batteries I ordered should arrive this week - so my fingers are crossed. It is frustrating, if I buy something I want it to work out of the box.
Accurate BPM with limited data
I purchased Tickr to track BPM more for health than for fitness. My boyfriend had a-fib and his heart rate was all over the place. We needed a reliable monitor to get a handle on his heart rate. Tickr provided that valuable data. We did find that Tickr had a hard time finding his heart rate while on beta blockers. Tickr picked my heart rate up immediately, but it took several tries to get his. I use it for other activities such as walking and workouts. The only disappointing thing is that it doesn't store data to sync. You need to have your phone close by. If you want a monitor that stores and syncs, you need to get another model.
So Far, So Good BUT...
I purchased the TickR Heart Rate Monitor about 3 weeks ago and did probably about 14 hour long rides with it via Zwift on my smart trainer. It has worked as expected and overall I am happy with the performance... BUT the battery already needed to be replaced. I hope that the new battery lasts much longer than the first battery that the TickR came with. If not, then I will be disappointed with this unit because when the warmer weather gets here in NJ and my rides are usually 2-3 hours long will mean that the battery will only last for 6 rides before needing to be replaced. Will wait and see what happens before final opinion...
Works great once you get it setup
I was really looking forward to getting my TICKR Heart Rate Monitor and I have been pretty pleased with it so far. I use it for cycling and it appears to be accurate in its tracking during my rides, which is convenient. My only big complaint with the device is the included instructions are poor - when they say to lick the contacts they mean the black strips on the actual band and not the small dots on the unit. Along with this it can be sometimes hard to pick up a Bluetooth signal with the Wahoo Fitness app, but it doesn't appear to have ever dropped/stop recording mid ride which is an improvement over my Wahoo Blue SC.
The Best HR Monitor
This is by far the best HR monitor I've ever used. I use it for cycling on average 3-4 times a week, and the battery is still going strong after a year. Connecting it to my iPhone and my Elemnt was super easy and worked perfectly the first time. Toward the end of last summer I noticed it was taking longer to connect and cut out briefly once. I read in the support that if you wash the band & device it helps with these issues, and now I just give the whole setup a quick rinse with water after my workouts and it works like a dream every time. It's super comfortable and accurate; I wouldn't try another brand after this one.
My favorite HR monitor.
Since this is my third HR strap I can compare it to other brands that I have owned. 1. Best feature is ANT+ and Bluetooth. 2. Strap is very comfortable to wear. I have used the HR monitor with my iPhone 5s and Garmin edge 500 and Garmin forerunner 25 without issues. The strap has very little plastic and isn't icy cold when I put it on. It stays in place when cycling. When running I have had problems with the back sliding down and falling off at the end of my run. That was very annoying. My solution was using the adjustment to make the strap tighter next time. I liked it so much I bought one for my daughter too.
Comfortable to wear
I used a wrist based HRM for an year and I switched to TICKR 3 weeks ago. I've done about 200 miles on my bike since then and I can clearly feel it's a huge upgrade. TICKR gives you stable HR reading without needing to over tighten the chest strap. After a while you don't feel it much and HRM stays where it is. Wrist based HRM tends to require over tightening and still slips on bumpy roads which leads to inaccurate readings. Then there's the problem of getting in the way every time you put on or off an extra layer of clothes. So far, I'm very satisfied with the accurate reading and comfortable wear of TICKR.
