I’ve had this tent for about a year and have used it several times. Let me say that this ya not dissappointed. Another users recent review calls out the carrying bag as a flaw... this bag definitely fits the tent very little effort. The carrying bag also expands from the bottom through the use of a zipper. We set this tent up in less than 10 minutes while other campers were with set theirs up in 20-30 minutes. seems durable through the first year and hopeful it will hold up for many more. I’d definitely purchase this again.
This tent would of received 5 stars if it wasn't for the zipper that never worked well.. and eventually broke after a couple years. I can't imagine a faster way of setting up and tearing down a tent!! One person up & down in 5 minutes! Plus tall enough to stand up in. We slept 4 comfortably but could get more if we wanted. Did well in the weather... never leaked. Now for the bad... the zipper caught on the flap EVERY TIME if was zipped. This was annoying to no ends... the flap eventually ripped in many places early on. After 2 years of use the the zipper broke. I believe this was a design flaw at the seam of the two tone and doorway.
I bought my first Rapid 6 almost two years ago. I love the tent. It's easy to set up, has lots of room and I can stand in it (I'm 6' 1"). Perfect for car camping. First time I used it I had 5 days of rain. No problems. Next time I was camping in Colorado and a thunderstorm with high winds hit and the rain fly tore where the side tie downs attach (photo 1). Took it back to REI and exchanged it for a new one with no problems. Went camping this summer in the second tent and the same thing happened at exactly the same spot. The problem is that the seam tape isn't sewn in well and that's all that holds the tie in strap. I love the tent, it seems well made except for the two side tie in points, and it has held up well in some heavy rainstorms. I haven't been able to find a similar one, so, rather than return this one I decided to fix it using ripstop nylon I bought at JoAnn Fabric for $0.76 (Photo 2). I folded the nylon to make a 1.5" wide seam tape (4 thicknesses of nylon). It's not beautiful but I'm confident it won't tear at the tie in points again (did the same on the other side). I wish I could rate it higher because it's a nice tent. Without this problem I would have given it a 5 star rating.
I LOVE this tent! I have been camping my whole life and have used many types of tents and I am always looking for a quick set up due to sometimes having to set up at night. I recently heard about this tent from a friend so I thought I would give it a try! I am glad I did! My husband and I love going camping near Naches, so sometimes we don't get there until dark. On our last trip we were able to quickly set this tent up with no issues whatsoever. The rain fly was easy to clip on and off, the zipper on the backside was a nice bonus! The poles of the tent were very sturdy, and it was great not having to piece together poles in order for the tent to be set up.
Just got it last week and was excited to see what it looked like. Thanks COVID19, I had to pick it in the basement. Fortunately, because of the lighting in the basement, I was able to see/ find small holes in fabric at approx. 4ft from the group. 1 set on the left side of the door and another set of holes on the opposite side, left of the window. Really bummed about it. I will have to return once stores open back up since I don't want to pay to ship a 25lbs tent back to REI. PROS? It's easy to set up. 1 person and it took 5 minutes or so...
I HATE setting up tents. Always have, until i purchased this one my friend recommended me to buy. REI Always sells High Quality so i bought it. Hands down the Easiest tent ive ever set up. Took me seconds, literally.! Already went camping twice with this tent and am about to get again this next weekend. Btw, one of the nights we wear out it had rained heavy, and we didnt get even a hint of rain in the tent. super water proof and pleanty of room for my GF and I. Thanks for the easy purchase and great products you guys cary REI. You know ill be back for my next adventure!
This tent is as easy to setup and take down as advertised. My experience has been that it has excellent water repellent characteristics. Pitching the tent with the door away from the wind makes it possible to keep the door at least partially open in rain, but when the wind switches or there is a small gust, then the tiny door awning won't keep rain out. Increasing the size of the awning by just 6 or 8 inches would make a big difference at negligible cost. Similarly, the addition of a small zipper in the rear window would allow closing the rear rain fly flap from inside the tent. Better yet, turn that rear window into a full door. This would add a little cost, but it would pay big dividends to users.
Like I said, what a difference this Rapid Tent has made for our families camping experience. We are avid out doors people with a baby and a dog. Setting up camp is the hardest part of the weekend for us. We have now used this tent most of this season and it has been so nice as it goes up so easy and comes down just as easy. We have seen all kinds of weather and it has held up through it all very well. I do suggest getting a 10X10 tarp to put under it as a foot print to save the floor. I want to thank REI for offering something with a young family in mind.
We've taken this out on two camping trips so far and it's held up relatively well. We had a cheaper instant tent before this, and the design of the setup/takedown of this is much simpler and faster. It's a little tricky to get the rain fly on solo, but otherwise this thing can be set up really easily by one person. A few other things I like over our old tent: - This thing is roomy. I'm 5'11 and have no problem standing up in this thing. We fit a family of 4 (two kids under 5) really comfortably. - Good amount of pockets for storing random things. There's also a nice little mesh net/shelf you can hang up top, which we use to store things like jackets and hats. - All the windows zip for full privacy, if needed. A couple cons: - In heavy rain (at one point we got 0.5-1" of rain in a half hour), we had some slight leaks through one of the pockets by the door, and a little water was seeping in through the floor. The latter might have been due to the fact that some water got trapped in between our footprint and tent though. It was also extremely humid, which didn't help. That being said, it held up decently well and I doubt other tents would have done much better. - The door zippers do get stuck more often than I'd like. Kind of annoying, but not a dealbreaker.
We have loved the idea of fast set up style tents but before we had a chance to use this one we could not find a good one. The frame on this works great and is built very well. Everything from the fabric to the well thought out windows are made of the kind of quality and features that we would want. The first time setting this up it took us a bit longer but we can now do it easily in under a minute with 2 of us. If your looking for a very easy to use large tent, this is a well made bargin in my book.
