I bought this as a dedicated summertime day-hiking pack for one-day missions. I have to say, this is one of the best fitting packs I've ever owned. It feels like it's hugging me. I got the larger size (female, 5'9', long torso) and I'm so glad I did. The waist belt on many packs creeps up around my belly button, but this one stays put right over my hips. It's not huge, but it keeps me focused in my packing, which is a good thing anyway. I'm really glad I got it and it makes my hikes more enjoyable to have a nicer pack with good pockets and excellent function. I expect I'll enjoy it for many years and miles. Thanks Osprey!
I have used this small backpack for two years now. It's perfect when I don't want to take a larger pack. I usually also use the Osprey 2L water Hydropack. The backpack has a pocket just for the Hydropack. The inner pocket has a key ring attachment, so I will not lose my keys on the trail. There is an outer zipper pocket for things needing easy access like a cell phone. It's large enough to carry a full-size camera and zoom lens, a jacket, small electronics like a PLB, first aid, and snacks. Great for mountain biking. I have used it for trail running but it jumps around a bit too much but works. I attach my camera to the front strap with a camera clip (sold separately by a camera brand) and it comfortably holds the weight a camera with a zoom lens. The hydration pack was a game changer for me. I'll never carry water bottles hiking again.
I use this bag as my day pack when I'm hiking. It's lightweight and small. You need to think through what you're going to take in it as it doesn't have a lot of room but is big enough for my 11 inch laptop, my purse and passport, my lunch, water, and an extra jumper. Recently took it as my bag on a flight and did find it a little finicky and probably too small for a long haul flight (28 hours) but I don't usually pack light!! On the return I took an extra bag for anything that didn't fit in it which probably isn't ideal. Still, I love how light it is, particularly with my computer in it and use it as a day bag for short hiking trips. It hasn't aged since I bought it about 12 months ago.
This patch has plenty of room for its size. Layers of clothing can fit as well as snacks and two deep pockets for water bottles. It fits very comfortably on my 6’6” body. The trekking pole storage is also a great feature.
I bought this bag (small 9L) for day hikes, it has sufficient room to carry a hydration pack (3L from Osprey fits) although I haven’t carried more than 2L of liquid in the pack. I can easily fit some snacks, two bottles of Gatorade and still have some room. The interior pocket holds phone, wallet, keys nicely as well. Outer side pocket is great for flashlight, trash, bug spray, etc. The bungee exterior pocket is great for a light jacket or shirt. The fit for me is perfect, I love how it hugs me and is secured. I don’t feel like I need to make adjustments as I’m hiking. Not sure how well the airscape mesh works but have not really felt uncomfortable with the pack after hours of hiking. Would totally recommend it for someone using it for day hikes to carry snacks and as a hydration pack. Not sure how well it does for trail runners. The only con is the limited amount of colors available!
Pack holds all necessities plus for day hikes. Cons listed above. As w/older version, Osprey needs to replace cinch buckle-load lifter straps with snap closures (like on waist belt). As they are now, it makes it very difficult to open hydraulic area wide enough to insert reservoir. Also would like to see bungee front replaced w/stuff pouch. And inside-outside compression straps not necessary on such a small pack. Having said all that, I still like the pack w/personal hack adjustments I made myself.
Have used this pack almost daily for 4 years now. Can hold a change of clothes and shoes when needed. Perfect sized pack when you need to carry and have available or doff a layer, in addition to safety and day's use capabilities. The pack's "narrowness" when fit means that I forget I've got it on, even after hours of wear. Hip belt pouches allow me to carry flashlight and snacks for times when I need either (or both). Tall side bottle holders keep even S'well (500ml) bottles in place securely (unless i need to run, in which case I loop an elastic "hair tie" through the relective loop at the top of the holder then loop the other end over the bottle. Now i can run and nothing shifts at all.) Just love the fit and usefulness of this pack as a daypack. it'd be poor even for an overnight pack, but single day use couldn't ask for anything better.
Bought the Talon 11 as a small day pack for cycling. I have the Osprey 26 which I love, but wanted something smaller for day trips. Great pack, right size, I have a 38" waist and can barely close the hipwaist cinch, just sent a letter to support requesting some kind of extension that I can add between the closurers. Guess we will see.
Love the fit and feel of this pack, everything in the right place. Hip belt pockets are nicely sized for a pack so small, and it just fits my frame really well. Not a lot of space if you fill it up with a full 2.5L hydration pack, but for a day hike it's good to keep it light anyway.
