Unreliable Average Speed Math (Sensor or App?)

I am a stats junky... I use interval stats to keep myself motivated -- especially on longer rides. I have found that the average speeds reported during rides range from moderately to wildly inaccurate. I don't know if the sensor calculates the current & average speeds (not sure how it would) or simply reports RPM to the Wahoo Fitness app. Either way, it is pretty obvious when the app announces my workout time as 1 hour 37 seconds, average speed as 15.2 MPH, and workout distance as 18 miles, SOMETHING is calculating wrong. While I've wasted more money on stupider things, I would have rather spent my money on something other than a sensor/app that is bad at math.

where is it?

I'm using this to bike. Have attached it to my shoe. Extreme easy to use, put on your shoes and off you go. You forget it is there. Other bike? No problem, still on the shoe and keeps on working. Data is sent to a Garmin 1000 and Suunto ambit at the same time. I've compared it with a garmin sensor as well. In my view, the garmin seems to give a more stable number each time, the variation of the Wahoo seems to be bigger. Don't know which one is correct butt I do have the feeling that Wahoo seems to miss so now and than a stroke, hence the reason of fluctuating more. Otherwise, very easy to pair and nothing to do when you start a ride, besides putting on your shoes.

does not work

This is out of the box and not working. I suspect that it was delivered with a flat battery, as was the case with my cadence sensor (see other review). But to be honest I cannot be bothered to investigate. Why? 1. I now have zero confidence in my Wahoo products after endless issues with anything I have ever bouight from them 2. I have devoted so much time to troubleshooting these products, I have lost the will carry on. I just wanna ride my bike, but all I seem to do with way too much of my precious ride time is fiddle about trying to coax some life into these substandard products (see also my review of the Reflkt +)

Works perfectly. Wish it was a little smaller.

Everything I have by Wahoo works perfectly. The Bolt computer and the speed and cadence sensors. This sensor paired instantly and the mount is pretty easy to use as long as you don't have wheels with too high of a spoke count. Maybe not easy enough to use to swap it back and forth between bikes every time I go riding, so I might buy some more of the speed sensors for other bikes. I just wish it was a little a less obvious, because it really kills the beautiful lines of my nice carbon wheels on my road bike. But nobody looks down on that because everyone knows what it is, so I guess it's okay.

Simple to use, but mount could be more flexible

I bought the RPM Speed and Cadence sensors together as a bundle. They work well, and were easy to pair with the ELEMNT. The particular bike couldn't use the BlueSC, as there was no place to mount it. My only quibble is that the supplied mount has a strap only long enough to mount on a regular front hub. If you have a dynamo front hub and have to mount it on the rear, you should order an RPM Cadence mount kit, which is more flexible. Ideally, Wahoo would ship the RPM Speed sensor with two lengths of rubber strap, covering both front and rear hub mounting.

Worked with my Polar V650

I bought the combo speed and cadence package for use with my Polar V650. I bought it since the Wahoo SC would always get kicked out of position. Instructions for installing the cadence sensor came in the box, but nothing for the speed sensor. No "speed tool" for opening the sensors to replace batteries was provided either. The speed sensor fit on on of our bikes that was equipped with a small diameter front hub, but the rubber strap is too short for our bikes with dyno hubs. It won't fit those bikes on the rear hub either, as they have IGH hubs.

Always on pause

Can't get it to work with Samsung s health it does nothing .won't fit on my bikes rear hub so if it worked at all i couldn't us it on my stationary stand only on road as it fits on front wheel hub only connects to Wahoo app but pauses no matter how fast or far you peddle you have to stop get out your phone push start put down phone take off and it pauses within a few feet again useless and frustrating to work with for such a simple device you shouldent have to spend time with support he'll back and forth it should just work.

Connection is Non Existent or Unreliable

I have the RPM bundle, and the connectivity over Bluetooth on these is the worst I've ever encountered on any device. It will connect in the Zwift settings menu no problem, then disappears when I start to ride. You then go into the settings menu again where it shows "No Signal", then jumps to "connected" again. You think its fine so go back into ride to find its vanished again .. Rinse and repeat, it just never works... I've tried it with a few apps now and the connection either doesn't work at all, or is so unreliable its infuriating. Also; it wont connect to 3 of my 4 tablets/phones when using Wahoo's own app, it just hangs at "fetching information" until you cancel the setup. Not worth the money, or the effort of spending hours troubleshooting them... Avoid.

Awesome

I wanted to remove the clutter from my road bike and manage everything from a single display, an iPhone mounted on my handlebars. I updated all sensors with Wahoo products and couldn't be more pleased. The RPM and Speed sensors connect flawlessly with my iPhone every time. Same for the HR monitor. So, there's really nothing more to say about the sensors. The real awesomeness is in the app. Wahoo's Fitness Tracker is by far the best. The numbers are large and easy to read. Without squinting or looking at separate screens, I can see everything I need to get the max out of my ride. It would be nice to be able to load a Map My Ride-style route. It would also be great to access the data from a PC or Mac. Maybe there's a way to do these things that I haven't discovered yet.

Replacing battery is a nightmare

Purchased the Speed and Cadence sensor bundle 04/2019. Both paired with my Wahoo Elmnt Bolt relatively easily and worked well out of the box. However, replacing the battery is a nightmare. (resist the temptation to use a tool to open the case, slide your finger nail around the entire seam instead). Wahoo replaced the cadence sensor under warranty after the electronics were damaged opening the case. Having learned from that experience, I was more careful with the Speed sensor, but after a couple of battery change cycles it is not working right anymore (04/2023)- cuts out intermittently. If a quality alternative was available, I would buy that. Failing that, I will just use GPS to estimate speed- though that cuts out when the signal is lost (eg in tunnels and under trees).
