Bought this tent in 2018 s a base camp for Bowhunting and camping with my (now 12 year old) son. Was immediately impressed with the quality and easy set up. Did a few simple outings in good weather, but never challenged it until this past weekend. My son and I were in the high desert in Arizona on a Javelina/deer hunt. We set up camp on a ridge line. Light rain had passed thru, but there was no sign of any weather event. Did I mention we were in Arizona…. 30 min after getting into the tent the wind kicked up. Due to the surface we were (solid rock formation) on I was not able to use tent stakes. We endured gusts of more than 60mph, in addition to torrential downpours during the entire night. The tent remained dry, and despite the dome being pushed down at times onto my head in the wind, the tent didn’t budge nor fail! Even unstated, this is expedition caliber performance. Strongly recommend this tent!
I really wanted to write a positive review for this tent as I have had a chance to own it for two years now. The problem comes with the weak rainfly design. The tent does not survive any windy condition ".". We have had the velcro straps break on the fly twice now, due to windy conditions. Not Everest windy, but just 15 mph winds. The Marmot repair service is very slow and there is very little communication during the entire process. You almost feel like you are sending it into a blackhole. Without the velcro straps the rainfly is unable and ineffective. I'ld rather just buy a new tent from someone else then keep trying to service it with Marmot.
I have this tent from 2015 and had used it 5-6 time on my camping trips. The velcro strip on the rain fly fell off recently and I contacted Marmot since this is covered under their warranty. It has been two weeks and there is no response except that initial auto reply. Poor customer service is all I can say about this company and I should probably return a new Marmot Limelight that am just bought on sale recently but have not used. The workmanship doesn't seem reliable any more. I have a second tent, Kelty Salida 4P, that had a minor issue. When I contacted the company for repair, they responded the next day with a solution. I can see that they (Kelty) really stand behind their products, but not Marmot.
Use this for the first time this past week for car camping (now that I have kids). Easy set up. Light and airy. We had an 8 hour period of rain, hail and wind. Held up very well and kept dry. Am used to the front door/back door approach (I have a Marmot Sanctum), so I have to get used to the side D doors. I have two issues: zipper/fly suck and storage pockets. I had to jump in the tent when it started raining and hailing heavily in the mountains. After getting in I pulled down the rainfly zipper and the protective zipper flap got sucked into he zipper. As hard as I tried, I could not free it up, especially given the pouring rain. I had to hold the fly together to prevent rain from coming in (even with the velcro closed). Once rain settled down, I was able to work on it from the outside. After a herculean effort, I was able to free the zipper, but in doing so damaged several zipper teeth so the top zipper will only go down 3" or so. The bottom zipper still works going up, to that point. An hour later, when it started to rain again, I jumped in the other door and the same thing happened (from the inside), but I was aware of this issue and took care of it before it got too stuck. The other minor issue is that I would prefer the storage pockets to be at the shoulder or ankle level rather that at the end of the tent a the head and feet. I will probably return the tent and get the same tent.
I purchased this tent March 2016 to replace an old UK tent to use in the US. I really like this tent. It is well designed, spacious, well built, and is easy to pitch. The only issues I have is that it is clearly not made for wet weather, or windy weather. I have used this tent in Acadia on tent platforms, in the back country of the white mountains in NH, the north cascade national park in Seattle next to a glacier and now I am Iceland. The tent is a 2 season at best, and the biggest issue I have is that the ground sheet and base of the inner tent leaks! I have camped a few times now in the light rain on grass in a normal campground and I wake up in the morning and the underside of my inflatable mat is wet. It didn't even rain that much. Marmot don't give you enough stakes either They give you six stakes for the tent. There are 4 points on the corners to attach the tent to the ground, 2 loops on the fly (with no string to attach stake) 4 guy ropes, and 2 porch loops. So you need 12 pegs in total to really stake it out. Overall a great tent for dry conditions and can be used for backpacking when split between two or three people, but I think I will have to buy another ground sheet.
Best tent I’ve ever slept in! Also my first tent over $200. Very well thought out and designed. I love how much space the vestibules have. The best part is that I can sit up comfortably anywhere in the tent (I’m 6’2”). Instead of my head and feet touching the tent walls, my feet only touch if I point my toes a little bit! That is a big improvement. Lots of pockets/pouches in the tent to stow things away in. Fits easily into its stuff sack. I don’t have to spend ten minutes smashing it in. The ground tarp doesn’t stay tight when the grommets are connected to the tent poles. This is only a problem when trying to move the tent when it is set up. Otherwise it works great.
The 3 person is more like a 1 adult, plus gear. The vestibule are tiny. You can fit some shoes, small bags, or short folded chairs. It only comes with enough stakes for the 4 corners and 1 for each vestibule. You'll need more for to use the guy lines(for windy areas). You can put the rain fly on backwards, so make sure you have the doors lined up prior to clipping it on. With that in mind, it's a solid tent that's easy to set up. I only used it in fair weather, so far...
I’ve had this tent for about 3 years and it’s been everywhere from the Sierra Nevada Mountains, The Deserts of Nevada, and the hot and humid Midwest, and it has preformed beautifully in all conditions. This tent has great ventilation and if set up properly is water tight. The tent is a little on the heavy side for one person to carry but is manageable to backpack with, if you can split the weight with someone it’s great. I would highly recommend this tent for anyone whether it’s car camping or backpacking! You will not be disappointed in it and if taken care of it will last a long time. Cheers!
I have the green Tungsten 3P tent and absolutely love it. I have used it on four camping trips thus far. I like how it has 2 doors, double pockets on each corner of the tent, and pockets above on each corner so you can store something like your glasses just a case if you need to wake up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom. It fits my boyfriend and I perfectly and one of the main reasons why I got a 3 person is to have that extra room. It was super easy to set up on the first try. It also has ventilation that you can open up on those hot or cold days/nights so condensation doesn't build up.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Set it up at home when I received it it it took less than 10 minutes to make fully habitable. Used it for the first time last weekend although I had to use a friend's cabin property due to COVID-19 restrictions. It slept two adults very comfortably. Plenty of room. Four sets of double pockets inside for your small items were more than enough. Hook at the roof apex for attaching a light. Only complaint is that it only came with 6 stakes. It would be great if it came with total of 10 to support all of the possible attachments. I picked up several more that were cheap. Not a big deal but it would be nice.
